The 2024 Honda Pilot is a three-row SUV with six trims, a 285-hp V6 and a 10-speed automatic. Depending on trim and drivetrain, it seats seven or eight, earns EPA ratings of 20–22 mpg combined, and is rated to tow up to 3,500 pounds with 2WD or 5,000 pounds with AWD. The choice between trims comes down largely to seating, equipment, drivetrain and whether you want TrailSport’s off-road-oriented setup.
What are the 2024 Honda Pilot trims?
Honda’s retail lineup comprises LX, Sport, EX-L, TrailSport, Touring and Elite. The manufacturer’s specifications also list a seven-passenger EX-L configuration separately; confirm seating and equipment on the specific vehicle, particularly when shopping used.
| Trim | Drivetrain and seating | Equipment focus |
|---|---|---|
| LX | 2WD or AWD; generally up to eight passengers | Entry trim. Blind-spot information and Cross Traffic Monitor are not listed for LX. |
| Sport | 2WD or AWD; generally up to eight passengers | Adds a more feature-rich appearance and equipment mix. Blind-spot information and Cross Traffic Monitor are listed. |
| EX-L | 2WD or AWD; generally up to eight passengers, with a seven-passenger configuration also listed | Emphasizes comfort and convenience. |
| TrailSport | AWD; seven passengers | Off-road-oriented equipment, including all-terrain tires and standard AWD. |
| Touring | 2WD or AWD; generally up to eight passengers | Adds premium convenience and technology equipment. |
| Elite | AWD; generally up to eight passengers | Top trim with additional equipment. |
Honda’s specifications list 2WD and AWD versions of LX, Sport, EX-L and Touring; TrailSport and Elite are AWD. Equipment such as parking sensors and low-speed braking control varies by trim, so check the original window sticker or vehicle documentation rather than relying solely on a used listing.

How much can a 2024 Honda Pilot tow?
Honda lists maximum towing capacity as 3,500 pounds for 2WD models and 5,000 pounds for AWD models. The company specifies that towing requires accessory towing equipment (Honda 2024 Pilot specifications). These are maximum ratings, not confirmation that a particular used Pilot has the required equipment or that any trailer and load combination is suitable. Check the vehicle’s drivetrain, installed equipment and applicable vehicle and trailer limits.
If shopping for a 2024 Honda Pilot trailer hitch or other Pilot towing equipment, verify fitment and wiring requirements for the exact trim and drivetrain before purchase or installation.

How many people can the Pilot seat, and how much cargo fits?
Most configurations seat up to eight; TrailSport seats seven. Honda also lists a seven-passenger EX-L configuration, so confirm the layout of an individual vehicle rather than assuming every EX-L has the same number of seats.
Honda gives standard cargo volume as 18.6 cubic feet behind the third row and 48.5 cubic feet behind the second row. With the first row as the reference, its standard figure is approximately 86.5–87 cubic feet, depending on the trim listing. Maximum cargo figures vary by configuration and measurement method. Honda’s SAE J1100 footnote says the calculation can include floor space between rows and seats positioned forward and upright; maximum capacity therefore should not be read as the space available with every seat in use. Using all three rows leaves less cargo room than folding a row.

What safety and driver-assistance features does it have?
Honda lists Honda Sensing driver-assistance features across the lineup, including Collision Mitigation Braking System, Road Departure Mitigation, Forward Collision Warning, Lane Departure Warning, Lane Keeping Assist, Adaptive Cruise Control with Low-Speed Follow, Traffic Sign Recognition and Traffic Jam Assist. These systems assist the driver; they do not make the Pilot autonomous. Blind-spot information and Cross Traffic Monitor are listed on Sport and above, but not LX. Other equipment, including low-speed braking control and parking sensors, varies by trim (Honda 2024 Pilot specifications).
The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety lists a Top Safety Pick award for the 2024 Pilot. The results are not all Good: the updated moderate-overlap front evaluation is Marginal, while the listed small-overlap front, original moderate-overlap front, updated side, headlights and standard pedestrian front-crash prevention evaluations are Good. IIHS notes that some ratings are based on 2023 Pilot testing and identifies the model years to which each result applies (IIHS 2024 Honda Pilot ratings).

What should you check on a used 2024 Pilot?
- Verify the trim, drivetrain and seat configuration from the vehicle documents; listings can describe them imprecisely.
- Check the VIN for open recalls and review maintenance and accident history.
- If you plan to tow, confirm the towing equipment is installed and appropriate for the vehicle.
- Assess the individual vehicle’s condition and compare current local prices; model specifications do not establish a used vehicle’s history, condition or value.
