The 2024 Genesis G70 2.5T makes a strong case for skipping the V6: its new-for-2024 turbo four-cylinder produces 300 hp, and its U.S. listed base price is thousands of dollars lower. But it does not match the 3.3T’s acceleration. The right choice depends on whether the V6’s extra pace and equipment are worth the price and fuel-economy trade-offs to you.
What changed for the 2024 G70?
Genesis replaced the G70’s previous 2.0-liter turbo base engine with a 2.5-liter turbo four-cylinder for 2024. Cars.com reports that output rose from 252 hp and 260 lb-ft of torque to 300 hp and 311 lb-ft. The change makes the entry engine substantially stronger, though Cars.com also noted some lag when pressing hard on the accelerator.
The alternative is a 3.3-liter twin-turbo V6 rated at 365 hp and 376 lb-ft. Both engines pair with an eight-speed automatic, and rear-wheel drive (RWD) or all-wheel drive (AWD) is offered depending on configuration. The 2.5T is no longer the clearly underpowered choice the old base engine could seem; the V6 remains the more powerful one.
How much quicker is the 3.3T?
Published acceleration tests show a real gap, but results vary by publication and test vehicle. Car and Driver recorded 5.9 seconds from 0 to 60 mph for the 2.5T and 4.5 seconds for the V6. MotorTrend recorded 5.7 seconds for a RWD 2.5T and a 14.1-second quarter-mile at 100.7 mph. Those are separate outlet tests, not guaranteed times for every G70.

Cars.com’s review characterized the 2.5T as no longer undesirably slow, while still not as quick as the 3.3T. In practical terms, the four-cylinder should satisfy buyers who want brisk performance without paying for the V6; the V6 is the choice if rapid acceleration is a priority.
What do the U.S. listed prices and equipment show?
Car and Driver lists these U.S. base prices for 2024 configurations. They are source-listed prices, not current transaction prices or used-car values.

The price comparison is not a perfect like-for-like trim match: the listed V6 configurations are Sport Advanced. Car and Driver also identifies active exhaust and adaptive dampers as exclusive to the 3.3T in its U.S. review, adding equipment distinctions to the power difference.
Genesis Canada’s 2024 listings use different trim names and Canadian-dollar prices. For example, the manufacturer lists the 2.5T Advanced AWD at C$53,000 and the 3.3T Advanced AWD at C$58,000. Those Canadian figures should not be combined with U.S. prices or treated as U.S. equipment specifications. The Canadian 2.5T Advanced AWD listing includes a wide sunroof, Brembo braking system, heated and ventilated front seats, driver-assistance features, and 10.25-inch navigation; the 3.3T Advanced AWD listing identifies electronically controlled suspension. Equipment can vary by market and trim.

How do fuel-economy ratings compare?
Car and Driver reports these EPA ratings for the 2024 model year. The 2.5T figures differ by drivetrain; the outlet lists a combined rating for the V6.

Car and Driver also observed 29 mpg in its V6 highway-route test. That is the publication’s result on its route, not an EPA rating or a promise of real-world fuel use.

Which G70 should you choose?
- Choose the 2.5T if you want a much stronger base engine than the former 2.0T, quick published acceleration, and a lower listed entry price. RWD has the higher EPA city and highway ratings of the two 2.5T configurations shown here.
- Choose the 3.3T if you value the faster published 0–60 time, the V6’s additional power, or its U.S.-reviewed exclusive active exhaust and adaptive dampers enough to justify the higher listed price.
- Compare the exact car, not just the engine badge. Drivetrain and trim affect price, ratings, and equipment. What the published safety ratings establish
The IIHS lists Good ratings for selected G70 crash tests, including small-overlap front and original moderate-overlap front tests. Its rating page identifies 2019 test vehicles and specifies the model years to which the results apply; the passenger-side small-overlap Good result is also for the tested 2019 vehicle.
