The 2024 Chevrolet Colorado’s headline towing capacity is up to 7,700 pounds, but that figure applies only to a properly equipped TurboMax configuration. Other versions are rated lower, including the ZR2 at 6,000 pounds. The right rating depends on the truck’s engine and equipment, while its actual towing ability also depends on passenger and cargo loads.
How much can a 2024 Chevrolet Colorado tow?
Chevrolet’s 2024 trailering chart lists ratings from 3,500 to 7,700 pounds, depending on configuration. The 7,700-pound maximum is not a rating for every Colorado: Chevrolet specifies a TurboMax setup with the Trailering Package and limited-slip differential. Chevrolet also cautions that passengers, cargo, options and accessories can reduce the amount the truck can tow. See the 2024 Chevrolet Colorado trailering chart.

The detailed figures for ZR2 Bison, AT4X and AT4X AEV are from the 2024 owner manual’s conventional-trailer table; consult the 2024 Colorado owner manual for its equipment-specific ratings and limits. The manual distinguishes engine and equipment combinations: for example, it lists 3,500 pounds for the L3B engine without the Z82 hitch, 6,000 pounds with Z82, and 7,700 pounds with both Z82 and G80 limited-slip differential.
Check the whole towing setup, not just the maximum
The manual’s table also gives gross combination weight rating (GCWR) and maximum tongue weight by configuration. Tongue weight—the downward force the trailer places on the hitch—must stay within its limit, and meeting that limit may require reducing trailer weight. Use the rating for the exact truck, check its labels and equipment, and account for the people and cargo aboard. A model-level maximum does not establish the payload or available towing capacity of an individual truck.

What do the safety ratings say?
The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) lists Good ratings for the driver-side small-overlap and updated side tests, and Marginal for the updated moderate-overlap test on its 2024 Chevrolet Colorado rating page. The page’s results have test-vehicle and model-year qualifications, so they should not all be read as tests conducted on a 2024 Colorado.
For example, the updated moderate-overlap result identifies a tested 2025 Chevrolet Colorado WT Crew Cab 4-door 4wd. The page also identifies tests performed on 2023 GMC Canyon vehicles and notes that certain small-overlap ratings apply to 2023–26 models. IIHS lists lane departure warning as standard, with blind spot detection and rear automatic braking optional.

Which accessories are listed for the 2024 Colorado?
Short-bed hard folding bed cover
Chevrolet Accessories catalogs an Advantage matte-black hard folding cover for 2023–26 Colorado WT, LT, Z71, ZR2 and Trail Boss trims. Chevrolet says the cover helps keep the elements out and protect cargo. Bed rails and recovery kit
Chevrolet also lists reconfigurable bed rails for 2023–26 Colorado trims. Its compatible off-road recovery kit includes a strap, shackles, gloves and tarp. Recovery equipment must be appropriately rated and used correctly; owning a kit by itself does not make vehicle recovery safe.
