The updated 2024 M2 did offer a six-speed manual, but the available evidence does not establish that it was BMW’s last manual M car—or when its manual production might end.
What BMW offered on the 2024 M2
BMW announced the updated M2 in June 2024, with production phase-in beginning in August. In that announcement, the six-speed manual was an option paired with the car’s rear-wheel-drive layout. BMW described it as a way for drivers to have more direct interaction with the powertrain, not as the only transmission choice. BMW’s June 2024 announcement also referred to a standard transmission for the alternative configuration.
The transmission’s standard-or-optional status depends on which model announcement you mean. BMW’s 2022 US launch announcement described the then-new M2 as coming standard with a six-speed manual. The acceleration numbers are manufacturer claims, not independent instrumented test results. BMW USA says its 0–60 mph results are preliminary, can vary with vehicle specification, road and environmental conditions, testing procedures, and driving style, and are intended for comparison. What the US specifications say
For the US-market 2024 M2 Coupe, BMW lists a 2,993 cc six-cylinder engine, 473 hp at 6,250 rpm, 406 lb-ft from 2,650 to 6,130 rpm, a six-speed manual, and rear-wheel drive. Its listed 0–60 mph time is 4.1 seconds, with a 155 mph top speed. These are BMW’s specifications for the US model; the global release lists 480 hp for its market specification. Keep the market attached to the power figure rather than treating the two figures as a single universal rating.
What the M2’s shift-assist feature does
BMW says the manual M2’s Gear Shift Assistant provides rev-matching on downshifts. The 2024 M2 model page says the feature can be deactivated in M Setup. Was the 2024 M2 BMW’s last manual M car?
It was not established as the last. In the same June 2024 release that announced the updated M2, BMW also documented manual variants of the M3 Sedan and M4 Coupe. That answers the question for BMW’s lineup as described in that announcement: the M2 was not the only manual M car then identified. The announcement does not establish what BMW would offer later or when manual M2 production would end.
BMW did not provide a verified manual take-rate or buyer-demand statistic in the cited material, so claims about how many customers chose the manual should not be treated as established figures.
