The 2024 Audi SQ8 is a quick, V8-powered luxury SUV with a strong case for enthusiasts who want performance without giving up a usable second row and cargo area. Its 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8 makes 507 PS, and Audi quotes a 0–100 km/h sprint of 4.1 seconds. The trade-offs are substantial fuel use, a high historical starting price, and an interior layout Car and Driver found short on small-item storage. Calling it a “future classic” is an argument about its character—not a proven forecast of collectability.
What makes the 2024 SQ8 stand out?
The SQ8 is the performance-focused version of Audi’s Q8 large luxury SUV. Its defining feature is a 4.0-liter V8, paired with an eight-speed tiptronic automatic transmission and permanent quattro all-wheel drive. Audi lists output at 373 kW (507 PS) and 770 Nm of torque. Those are manufacturer figures for the SQ8 TFSI described in Audi’s 2023 Q8 and SQ8 announcement.
Audi quotes 0–100 km/h (62 mph) in 4.1 seconds and an electronically governed top speed of 250 km/h (155 mph). That makes the SQ8’s appeal straightforward: it combines the effortless acceleration and V8 character of a performance vehicle with the space and elevated seating position of a large SUV. The “future classic” description is best understood as an editorial view of that combination, not a claim supported by sales, reliability, or resale data.
How fast is the 2024 Audi SQ8?
Audi’s stated acceleration is 4.1 seconds from 0–100 km/h (62 mph), with a governed top speed of 250 km/h (155 mph). The figures come from Audi’s manufacturer announcement; they are not an independently measured test result. Audi’s European-market power rating is 373 kW (507 PS), with 770 Nm of torque.

What fuel economy does it get?
For the U.S. 2024 model, Car and Driver reports EPA fuel-economy ratings of 15 mpg city, 21 mpg highway, and 17 mpg combined in its 2024 Audi SQ8 review. These are EPA-attributed figures, not Car and Driver’s own road-test results; the publication said its 75-mph highway economy test had not been run at the time represented by the review.
Do not mix those U.S. EPA ratings with European WLTP consumption figures. Audi’s technical sheet is for the German program and is dated April 17, 2024; its test cycle and market context differ from U.S. EPA ratings. The sheet lists a 3,996 cc V8 and German-market technical details, but its WLTP figures should not be presented as U.S. fuel economy. Is the SQ8 practical enough for everyday use?
Car and Driver’s review describes the rear seat as spacious and the cargo area as useful for road trips, while noting that the cabin has limited small-item storage. The publication also describes a dual-touchscreen center stack and Audi’s Virtual Cockpit digital gauge display. Drivers who prefer dedicated physical climate controls may find the touchscreen-heavy arrangement less convenient.
Audi’s German-market technical sheet lists five seats and cargo capacity of 605 liters (21.4 cu ft) behind the second row, expanding to 1,755 liters (62.0 cu ft) behind the first row. These are figures from the German program’s April 17, 2024 data sheet, not a confirmation of U.S.-market specifications or trim equipment.

Adding cargo and carrying equipment
Audi USA’s Q8-family accessory catalog lists an all-weather cargo mat and rooftop attachments. The catalog establishes that these accessory categories exist, but does not verify exact fitment for every 2024 SQ8. Check the model year and trim before ordering. Audi says rooftop attachments require separately sold base carrier bars.
What did the 2024 SQ8 cost, and what ownership details matter?
Car and Driver listed historical U.S. base prices of $97,795 for Premium Plus and $104,795 for Prestige in its model-year 2024 review. These are review-era listed prices, not current used-car values or a quote for a particular vehicle. Actual prices depend on the vehicle, options, condition, mileage, location, and market date.

The same publication reported a four-year/50,000-mile limited and powertrain warranty and no complimentary scheduled maintenance. Confirm the coverage and vehicle in-service date for any specific SQ8; a used vehicle’s remaining warranty is not determined by model year alone. A defensible total cost of ownership cannot be calculated from these figures: fuel, insurance, maintenance, repairs, depreciation, mileage, condition, and location all affect the result.

The SQ8 makes most sense for a buyer who values a powerful V8 and rapid acceleration more than fuel economy or low purchase cost, but still wants the passenger and cargo utility of a large SUV. Car and Driver’s review says the updated model retained the athletic driving experience of its predecessor and identifies useful rear-seat and cargo space alongside the cabin’s limited cubbies. Those are the publication’s assessments, not independent test findings here.

Its “future classic” potential is a subjective thesis: the V8 and performance-SUV format give the SQ8 a distinct enthusiast appeal, but the available evidence does not establish future collectability, resale performance, or reliability. Treat the car’s measurable strengths—its engine, output, acceleration, and stated utility—as firmer ground than predictions about what collectors may value later.
