The 2023 Triumph Tiger 1200 GT Pro makes the most sense as a premium road-touring motorcycle with adventure-bike stance and versatility—not as a two-wheeled SUV in any literal sense. It combines a 1,160 cc triple, shaft drive, upright ergonomics and touring equipment, while its cast 19-inch front wheel and road-oriented tires mark it out for pavement first. Triumph lists 245 kg wet weight with 90% fuel, so its versatility comes in a substantial package.
What the “SUV era” comparison gets right—and wrong
The SUV analogy captures the GT Pro’s broad brief: a tall, spacious riding position, long-distance intent, substantial equipment and the ability to leave smooth pavement for rough roads. It is an editorial comparison, not a technical category. The GT Pro remains a motorcycle with meaningful weight, and its road-biased wheel and tire setup does not make it a specialist for demanding off-road riding.
Within the 2023 Tiger 1200 family, the GT Pro is the road-focused Pro model. It offers more off-pavement flexibility than a conventional road tourer, but the Rally Pro is the more appropriate direction for riders who prioritize rougher terrain.
Engine, weight and touring equipment
Triumph’s 2022 launch media kit lists a liquid-cooled 1,160 cc inline triple with a 1-3-2 firing order, six-speed gearbox and shaft drive. Manufacturer output is 150 PS / 148 bhp (110.4 kW) at 9,000 rpm and 130 Nm at 7,000 rpm. Those are Triumph’s engine-output figures, not rear-wheel measurements.

The same launch material lists a 20-litre fuel tank and a wet weight of 245 kg with the tank 90% full. Triumph’s handbook gives a maximum payload of 222 kg across the model family; consult the handbook for the exact motorcycle and account for rider, passenger and luggage within that limit.
Showa semi-active suspension has 200 mm of travel at both ends. The launch specification lists an adjustable seat height of 850–870 mm and a 7-inch color TFT. Those figures describe the GT Pro’s equipment and dimensions; whether the seat height and mass feel manageable depends on rider fit, load and conditions.

How the GT Pro differs from the other 2023 Tiger 1200s
The useful distinction is the intended surface and the hardware that supports it. Triumph’s 2022 launch chart lists the following family differences:
| Model | Front/rear wheel setup | Tank | Wet weight at 90% fuel | What the distinction means |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| GT Pro | Cast 19-inch front / 18-inch rear | 20 litres | 245 kg | Road-focused Pro configuration |
| Rally Pro | Tubeless spoked 21-inch front / 18-inch rear | 20 litres | 249 kg | More off-road-oriented wheel configuration |
| GT Explorer | Cast 19-inch front / 18-inch rear | 30 litres | Not stated in the cited launch-chart facts | GT-family wheel setup with a larger tank |
| Rally Explorer | Tubeless spoked 21-inch front / 18-inch rear | 30 litres | Not stated in the cited launch-chart facts | Rally-family wheel setup with a larger tank |
Triumph’s launch chart identifies the wheel and tank distinctions shown here; equipment can vary by model and market. The 30-litre tanks belong to Explorer variants, not the GT Pro. For riders choosing between GT Pro and Rally Pro, the 19-inch cast front versus 21-inch tubeless-spoked front is a clear indication of their different priorities.

How it rides, according to a road test
In a review of the 2023 model published November 1, 2022, Rider Magazine’s Greg Drevenstedt described the revised motorcycle as feeling lighter and more agile than the previous generation. He praised the stock seat and upright riding position, and characterized the GT Pro as capable on rough, twisting pavement and suitable for mild off-road use. These are the reviewer’s impressions, not a promise that the bike will suit every rider or terrain.
Rider’s test also recorded 130.2 hp at 9,100 rpm and 81.8 lb-ft at 7,000 rpm on its rear-wheel dynamometer. Those readings are distinct from Triumph’s stated engine-output figures. The publication reported 38 mpg and an estimated 203-mile range under its test conditions; actual fuel economy and range will vary with riding, load and conditions.

Is the GT Pro a good long-distance tourer?
Its upright riding position, stock seat, shaft drive, semi-active suspension and touring-oriented equipment support long-distance use. Rider’s favorable comments on the seat and riding position add a useful independent perspective, but comfort is personal: rider height, inseam, preferred posture and passenger or luggage load all matter.
The 20-litre tank is smaller than the 30-litre capacity of the Explorer models. Rider’s reported 203-mile estimated range is a test-specific figure, not a guaranteed distance between fuel stops. Plan around your own consumption and route rather than treating the test estimate as a fixed range.

Wheels, tires and replacement fitment
The GT Pro has cast 19-inch front and 18-inch rear wheels. Triumph’s launch material lists Metzeler Tourance tires, and the handbook gives GT-family dimensions of 120/70 R19 front and 150/70 R18 rear. A 120/70R19 tire is therefore the listed front size, but size alone does not confirm that a particular replacement is approved for a specific model year.
The handbook directs owners to Triumph or a dealer for the approved tire list. Before ordering, confirm exact-year fitment, approved make and model, load and speed ratings, and suitability for the surfaces you intend to ride. The handbook also specifies 95 RON unleaded fuel; use the exact manual for the motorcycle’s fuel and maintenance requirements.
Price and ownership context
Rider reported a US launch base price of $21,400 and $21,600 as tested in its November 2022 review. These are historical launch figures, not current pricing. The review also listed a three-year unlimited-mile warranty and a 20,000-mile valve inspection interval; warranty terms and service requirements should be checked against the applicable market, model-year documents and current dealer information.
Rider noted that Triumph offered more than 50 dedicated Tiger 1200 accessories, including luggage and lower seats. For a prospective owner, luggage options may affect touring capacity and a lower seat may affect reach to the ground, but confirm current catalog availability and compatibility for the exact model year.
