The 2023 Suzuki V-Strom 1050 range pairs an updated road-oriented tourer with the new, more off-road-focused V-Strom 1050DE. Both gain a five-inch color TFT display, a bidirectional quickshifter and expanded Suzuki Intelligent Ride System features. The key distinction is equipment: the standard 1050 has cast 19-inch front and 17-inch rear wheels, while the DE uses a spoked 21-inch front wheel, semi-block tires and additional gravel-oriented controls.
What changed on the 2023 V-Strom 1050?
Suzuki announced the updated range on September 5, 2022, with sales planned to begin in January 2023, primarily in Europe and North America. The launch included an updated V-Strom 1050 and the new 1050DE, with different intended riding emphases. Suzuki Global’s launch announcement describes both models and their main changes.
- Bidirectional quickshifter: Suzuki says riders can shift up or down without operating the clutch.
- Five-inch color TFT: Both models receive a larger color instrument display.
- Expanded rider aids: The 2023 updates add functions to Suzuki Intelligent Ride System (S.I.R.S.), including a wider operating range for cruise control, according to Suzuki’s launch materials.
Suzuki’s UK materials describe a six-axis inertial measurement unit, lean-angle-sensitive ABS, slope- and load-dependent braking control, hill hold, linked brakes, three power modes and three traction-control settings. Those descriptions apply to the UK-market specification. The same UK release notes hollow sodium-filled exhaust valves and revised first and sixth transmission gears. These are manufacturer-listed changes, not findings from an independent comparison test. Suzuki UK’s announcement provides that market’s equipment details.
V-Strom 1050 vs. 1050DE: which one suits your riding?
The standard 1050 is the road-touring choice in Suzuki’s lineup; the 1050DE is equipped for riders who expect more gravel and rough-surface miles while retaining on-road capability. Neither is categorically better: the useful question is how much off-pavement use you expect and whether the DE’s wheel, tire, chassis and control differences fit that use.

Equipment descriptions can vary by market and package. Suzuki’s U.S. launch release covers the DE Adventure package and tire fitment, while its UK release describes chassis and rider-contact details. Suzuki Cycles’ U.S. announcement and Suzuki UK’s announcement are the market-specific references.
What the 1050DE adds for gravel and rougher roads
The DE’s 21-inch front wheel, spoked wheels, semi-block tires, revised geometry and increased clearance and suspension travel distinguish its hardware from the standard tourer. It also adds G mode to traction control and lets the rider disable rear ABS for off-road use.

Suzuki’s Japan-market release cautions that G mode permits a degree of rear-tire slip and should not be used on paved roads. That is a specific manufacturer warning in the Japanese release, not a claim that the mode is suitable for every loose-surface condition. Suzuki Japan’s release contains the caution.
Touring accessories and fitment
Suzuki’s U.S. launch materials list a low seat, grip heaters, a screen adjustment kit, a taller windscreen, aluminum top case and aluminum side cases. The top case is specified at 38 L and requires a dedicated carrier. Suzuki UK also lists luggage, heated grips, lower-seat options and fog lamps.

Suzuki Cycles said in its September 5, 2022 U.S. release that more than 50,000 V-Strom motorcycles had been sold worldwide since 2002. That is the manufacturer’s stated figure, not an independently audited sales count. The U.S. release also supplies its launch-date context.
