The 2023 Lexus NX 450h+’s plug-in hybrid powertrain is the standout; the F Sport Handling package is harder to justify. Its larger wheels and firmer suspension trade some ride comfort for a sportier look and chassis feel. If you want the plug-in system but not that trade-off, the base NX 450h+ is the more sensible choice. If you do not need to charge, consider the less expensive NX 350h instead.
What changes when you choose the NX 450h+ F Sport?
The important distinction is between the plug-in hybrid powertrain and the F Sport Handling hardware. The plug-in system is what gives the NX 450h+ its ability to cover some trips on electricity. The F Sport package is principally a styling and chassis choice, not a separate powertrain upgrade.
MotorTrend’s 2023 review result judged the NX 450h+ the best-executed version of the lineup but said the F Sport Handling package was unnecessary for most buyers: its 20-inch wheels and stiffer sport suspension detract from ride quality. That is a review verdict, not a claim that the package has no appeal. Drivers who value its appearance or firmer tuning may reasonably prefer it.
What the 2023 U.S. NX 450h+ offers
For the 2023 U.S. model year, Edmunds lists a 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine paired with two electric motors, producing 304 combined horsepower and standard all-wheel drive. Its EPA-estimated figures are 37 miles of electric range and 84 MPGe. Those are model-year U.S. figures, not guarantees of what another year or market delivers.

In Edmunds’ own evaluation, the NX 450h+ traveled 43 miles on electric power and returned 35.2 mpg after its battery was depleted. Edmunds also measured 0–60 mph in 5.9 seconds. These are results from that publication’s route and test conditions; individual range and fuel economy vary with factors such as temperature, speed, terrain, and driving style.
Edmunds describes the power delivery as smooth and the ride as comfortable, while noting that the suspension prioritizes comfort over performance and the vehicle leans in curves. The F Sport’s firmer setup changes that balance, but it does not make the NX 450h+ a fundamentally different or more powerful plug-in hybrid.

Base NX 450h+ or F Sport Handling?
Edmunds’ 2023 U.S. figures put the base NX 450h+ at about $57,505 MSRP and the F Sport Handling at about $58,755, both including destination. These are historical model-year MSRPs, not current asking prices or transaction prices.

The $1,250 difference between Edmunds’ listed 2023 MSRPs is a model-year comparison, not a current price quote. Equipment and pricing can differ by year, market, and vehicle configuration.

When the NX 350h is the better lower rung
If you do not expect to plug in regularly, the NX 350h conventional hybrid may be the more relevant alternative than a lower NX 450h+ trim. Edmunds lists 239 horsepower for the NX 350h and says it gets slightly better mileage while costing significantly less than the NX 450h+. The trade-off is that it does not provide the 450h+’s plug-in electric-driving capability.
The 450h+ makes the most sense for a driver who can charge at home or work and will often use that electric range. If charging access is inconvenient, occasional, or not part of your routine, compare the lower purchase cost and fuel economy of the NX 350h against the value you would actually get from plugging in.

- Choose the base NX 450h+ if you want a plug-in hybrid, can charge regularly, and do not specifically want the F Sport look or firmer suspension.
- Choose the NX 450h+ F Sport Handling if its styling and chassis feel matter enough to you to accept the ride-quality compromise.
- Consider the NX 350h if you want a conventional hybrid and do not need plug-in charging.
How much does the F Sport ride trade-off matter?
A separate Singapore-market review of the 2022 NX found the F Sport noticeably harsher over the road than a regular NX 350h on 18-inch wheels. That is useful corroboration of the general wheel-and-ride trade-off, but it is a different model year and market—not proof of U.S. equipment or a direct substitute for a 2023 U.S. comparison.
For a buyer deciding between 450h+ versions, ride comfort is best judged in the actual car and on familiar roads. Pay attention to sharp bumps and rough pavement, not only how the wheels and suspension look on a smooth test-drive route.

How it compares with other plug-in SUVs
Edmunds names the Audi Q5 plug-in hybrid and Volvo XC60 Recharge as competitors. Its comparison characterizes the Audi as more powerful but with less electric range than the Lexus, and the Volvo as substantially more powerful with a similar listed range. Because those comparisons may vary by model year and specification, check the current-year figures before using them to choose a vehicle.
Compare the vehicles on usable electric range, charging access, power, ride comfort, equipment, and price—not power or range in isolation. A larger stated range is useful only if it fits your routes and charging habits, while a sportier suspension is worthwhile only if you prefer how it rides.
Bottom line for a used or new-model-year shopper
For the 2023 U.S. lineup described in the available reviews, the base NX 450h+ is the stronger default for someone who wants the plug-in system: it avoids the F Sport’s firmer ride without giving up the core hybrid hardware. Move up to F Sport Handling for a deliberate styling and chassis preference, not because it is an automatic performance upgrade. If you will not charge regularly, step back and compare the NX 350h.
