The 2023 Kia Telluride SX Prestige X-Pro is a premium three-row family SUV with useful upgrades for rough roads: standard all-wheel drive, exclusive 18-inch wheels with all-terrain tires, and 8.4 inches of advertised ground clearance. It is better equipped for uneven or slippery surfaces than a road-focused Telluride, but the available evidence does not establish it as a serious off-road SUV.
What the SX Prestige X-Pro adds
Kia’s 2023 brochure identifies the X-Pro’s exclusive 18-inch wheels with all-terrain tires and 8.4-inch ground clearance. The SX Prestige X-Pro is also all-wheel drive, according to Edmunds’ specification listing. Together, those features broaden the Telluride’s usefulness on rough roads and in adverse conditions, without changing its basic role as an upscale, three-row family hauler.
Kia lists a 3.8-liter GDI V6 producing 291 horsepower for the 2023 Telluride. The brochure also advertises 5,500 pounds of towing capacity, with a qualification marker; the exact limit applicable to an individual vehicle depends on its equipment and should be confirmed before towing. Is the 2023 Telluride X-Pro actually good off road?
It is more prepared for modestly rough terrain than a road-focused trim, but the evidence supports a measured description rather than a claim of hard-core trail ability. All-terrain tires, extra ground clearance, and AWD are relevant advantages on uneven tracks or adverse surfaces. They do not, by themselves, establish how the vehicle performs on demanding trails.

MotorTrend’s instrumented test did not include off-road driving, and Cars.com cautions that all-terrain tires and additional clearance do not make the Telluride an off-road SUV. For a buyer’s intended route, consider the actual terrain and the vehicle’s limits rather than treating the X-Pro name or rugged styling as proof of trail capability. How much can it tow, and how much cargo fits?
Edmunds lists a maximum towing capacity of 5,500 pounds and 21 cubic feet of cargo capacity with all seats in place for the SX Prestige X-Pro. Kia’s brochure also advertises 5,500 pounds of towing capacity with a qualification marker. These are published specifications, not a guarantee for every used example: check the specific vehicle’s equipment and applicable tow limits before hitching a trailer.

What tires come on a Telluride X-Pro?
Kia identifies the factory setup as 18-inch wheels with all-terrain tires. The brochure does not establish an exact tire size or original-equipment brand, so do not assume a replacement tire based only on the trim name.
