Front-wheel drive is standard and all-wheel drive is optional. Its appeal is a useful mix of cabin and cargo space, comfort features, and assertive looks; the main caveat is that the ST-Line’s appearance does not make it an ST in power or performance.
What the ST-Line is—and what it is not
Ford offered the 2021 Edge ST-Line as a trim in the regular Edge range. It uses a 2.0-liter EcoBoost four-cylinder rated by Ford at 250 horsepower and 275 lb-ft of torque. The Edge ST is a separate model with a 2.7-liter EcoBoost V6 rated at 335 horsepower and 380 lb-ft. Ford’s ST output figures are based on premium fuel; that note does not apply to the ST-Line’s four-cylinder. Ford specifies 87-octane minimum for the 2.0-liter engine.
In other words, “ST-Line” describes a sportier appearance and equipment treatment, not the ST’s engine, transmission, or performance tuning. The distinction matters when shopping: check the model and engine, rather than relying on badges or styling alone. Ford’s 2021 technical specifications list the 2.0-liter engine for SE, SEL, ST-Line, and Titanium, and the V6 for ST.
What makes the ST-Line distinctive
The trim’s case is mostly visual and comfort-focused. Ford’s 2021 brochure highlights 20-inch gloss-black wheels, ActiveX material with Miko sueded-cloth inserts, a heated 10-way power driver’s seat, and 60/40 EasyFold rear seats. The brochure sums up its positioning as “just the right amount of go – and show.” That is a useful description if read as styling language, not a promise of ST-level performance.

Ford’s brochure also identifies SYNC 4A infotainment and smartphone integration in the Edge equipment material. Actual equipment can vary by vehicle and installed configuration, so verify the specific car’s window sticker rather than assuming every feature is present.
Power, fuel economy, and the FWD-versus-AWD choice
The 2.0-liter’s 250 hp and 275 lb-ft give the ST-Line a conventional turbocharged-four-cylinder setup. Choose between front-wheel drive and optional all-wheel drive based on traction needs and the vehicle’s use; the choice also affects Ford’s published EPA-estimated fuel economy and towing capacity.

Economy figures are Ford’s brochure estimates for the listed configurations; real-world mileage varies. The tow ratings are configuration-dependent, so confirm the tow package and vehicle-specific rating before towing. Ford’s 2021 economy and accessories brochure provides these figures.
An independent datapoint offers context, not a substitute for the EPA estimates: Car and Driver tested an FWD 2021 ST-Line with a panoramic sunroof and active-safety package and recorded 24 mpg on its 75-mph fuel-economy loop. That is one publication’s result under its test conditions, not a prediction for every ST-Line. In the same test, it measured 72 dBA at full throttle and 68 dBA at a steady 70 mph. Passenger and cargo space
The Edge seats five. Edmunds lists 39.2 cubic feet of cargo volume behind the second row and 73.4 cubic feet with the rear seats folded. Those are published specifications, not measurements from this review. The 60/40 EasyFold rear seats give the ST-Line a straightforward way to expand the cargo area when carrying larger items. Car and Driver described rear-passenger space favorably in its own test, though that observation applies to its test vehicle and experience.
If you need to carry bulky gear, consider whether the standard cargo area is enough before relying on roof storage. Ford lists original accessories including a cargo area protector, floor liners, and roof-mounted crossbars and cargo boxes. Confirm year, trim, and configuration compatibility before buying an accessory.

Safety and convenience equipment can depend on packages
Do not assume every ST-Line has the same driver-assistance features. Ford’s 2021 options chart shows Co-Pilot360 Assist equipment—including adaptive cruise control with Stop-and-Go and Lane Centering, Evasive Steering Assist, and connected built-in navigation—as optional or package-dependent. Equipment varies by vehicle; check the original window sticker or a VIN-specific listing when evaluating a particular example. Ford’s 2021 features and options chart shows the package distinctions.
Who should consider a 2021 Edge ST-Line?
The ST-Line is worth considering if you want a roomy five-seat Edge with sportier styling and comfort-oriented equipment, but do not need the ST’s V6 performance. FWD is the more fuel-efficient published configuration, while AWD may better suit drivers who value added traction. If towing is part of the plan, identify the exact tow-package configuration rather than assuming all ST-Line examples share the same rating.

For a used vehicle, inspect the window sticker or VIN-specific equipment listing for drivetrain, tow package, and driver-assistance features.
