The redesigned 2022 Lexus NX 350h is a conventional hybrid that pairs a polished luxury-car presentation with lower fuel use than the gas-powered NX 350 in Consumer Reports’ testing. Lexus estimated 39 mpg combined for the U.S. model; Consumer Reports recorded 38 mpg overall in its own test. The trade-offs are a narrow-feeling cabin, limited rearward visibility, and engine noise under hard acceleration. It may appeal to shoppers who want a premium compact SUV and do not need to plug in, but the available testing does not establish how it compares directly with a Toyota RAV4.
What is the 2022 Lexus NX 350h?
The NX 350h is the conventional hybrid in Lexus’s redesigned 2022 NX lineup. Its 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine works with electric motor-generators, and the system can switch between gasoline and electric power without the driver plugging in. The related NX 450h+ is the plug-in hybrid; it is a different model.
For the U.S. launch model, Lexus listed 239 combined system horsepower, a manufacturer-estimated 0–60 mph time of 7.2 seconds, and 39 mpg combined as an EPA estimate. Those are Lexus’s published specifications, not independent test results. How fuel-efficient is the NX 350h?
Consumer Reports recorded 38 mpg overall in its road test of the 2022 NX 350h. That is close to, but distinct from, Lexus’s U.S. launch figure of 39 mpg EPA-estimated combined; an independent publication’s test result and an EPA estimate are not interchangeable. What is it like to drive?
Everyday driving
Consumer Reports found the hybrid refined in ordinary driving, with smooth transitions between gasoline and electric power. Acceleration and engine noise
The 7.2-second 0–60 mph figure is Lexus’s U.S. launch estimate, rather than a Consumer Reports measurement. Consumer Reports noted that hard acceleration can make the engine rev loudly and create an eCVT “rubberbanding” sensation, in which engine speed and the increase in road speed can feel out of sync. That character matters most when demanding quick acceleration; the publication found the powertrain smoother in normal use.

How does the hybrid compare with the gas NX 350?
The direct independent comparison available here is between the NX 350h and the gas-powered NX 350 AWD, not between the Lexus and a RAV4. In Consumer Reports’ testing, the hybrid returned 38 mpg overall while the tested gas NX 350 AWD returned 25 mpg overall. Those are results from that publication’s tests, not guaranteed owner outcomes. These results describe Consumer Reports’ comparison of the two NX versions. They do not establish a head-to-head result against a Toyota RAV4. The NX’s Lexus positioning makes it a premium alternative to consider, but a buyer weighing it against a RAV4 should compare the specific model years, trims, equipment and prices they are considering rather than assume the Lexus is roomier, more comfortable, or better value.

How comfortable and practical is the cabin?
Consumer Reports describes the cabin as well finished but narrow. It found the ride firm yet mostly comfortable, while thick roof pillars and small windows made outward visibility harder, particularly toward the rear. Those are publication observations, not measurements of cabin dimensions. Shoppers should check seating comfort and sightlines from the driver’s seat during a test drive.
The 2022 redesign replaced the prior generation’s touchpad arrangement with a touchscreen. Consumer Reports also criticized the electronic interior door releases and gear selector, details worth trying in person if simple, familiar controls are a priority. Is the 2022 Lexus NX 350h worth buying?
It is worth considering if you want a luxury-branded compact SUV with a conventional hybrid powertrain, no plug-in requirement, and strong fuel-economy results relative to the gas NX 350 in Consumer Reports’ tests. Its everyday refinement and well-finished cabin support that use case. Before choosing one, decide whether the firm ride, confined cabin feel, visibility limitations, and louder engine response under hard acceleration suit your needs.
