2020 Opel Corsa: Engines, Service Intervals, Safety and Recalls

The 2020 Opel Corsa’s engine range and service schedule depend on market and model-year revision. Check the right specification, safety details and VIN-based recall status.

The 2020 Opel Corsa is the sixth-generation Corsa F, but there is no single specification that fits every car: engine choices, equipment and maintenance schedules vary by country and by model-year revision. UK guides list 75 PS and 100 PS petrol engines and a 102 PS diesel; an Irish guide presents petrol versions only. Check the specific car’s documents and VIN before relying on a specification, service interval or recall notice.

Which 2020 Opel Corsa is it?

“2020 Opel Corsa” generally refers to the sixth-generation Corsa F, but a registration year alone does not identify the car’s exact configuration. The UK published separate Model Year 2020 and Model Year 2020.5 guides, while Ireland’s September 2020 guide shows its own market lineup. Country, build date, model-year revision, trim and options all matter.

For a used-car comparison, identify the market and model-year revision, then match the engine, transmission and trim. Do not assume that a trim name or registration year guarantees particular equipment, or compare fuel figures unless they use the same test procedure.

What engines and transmissions were available?

The UK guide effective 8 January 2020 lists the following engines. These are UK guide specifications, not a universal European lineup.

UK-listed engine Output and torque Transmission Emissions standard
1.2 petrol, naturally aspirated 75 PS (55 kW), 118 Nm Five-speed manual Euro 6d
1.2 turbo petrol 100 PS (74 kW), 205 Nm Six-speed manual or eight-speed automatic in the related specification range Euro 6d
1.5 Turbo D diesel 102 PS (75 kW), 250 Nm Not stated in the cited UK guide summary Euro 6d-TEMP

The September 2020 Irish guide lists a 75 bhp (55 kW) petrol with five-speed manual and a 100 bhp (74 kW) turbo petrol with six-speed manual or eight-speed automatic. That guide does not establish the UK diesel lineup as an Irish-market option. Sources: Vauxhall UK Model Year 2020 guide, Vauxhall UK Model Year 2020.5 guide, and Opel Ireland September 2020 guide.

Irish guide fuel-consumption figures

Opel Ireland’s September 2020 guide gives these WLTP ranges. They are test-cycle figures for the stated configurations, not guaranteed real-world consumption; the guide notes that equipment and use affect actual consumption.

Irish-market configuration WLTP fuel consumption
75 bhp petrol, manual 5.3–5.9 L/100 km
100 bhp turbo petrol, manual 5.4–5.9 L/100 km
100 bhp turbo petrol, automatic 5.8–6.2 L/100 km

These figures come from the Irish September 2020 guide; they should not be substituted for a UK car’s figures or treated as a prediction for an individual journey.

What is the service interval?

The published UK interval differs by guide revision, so use the schedule that applies to the specific vehicle rather than treating one figure as correct for every 2020 Corsa.

UK guide revision Petrol Diesel
Model Year 2020, effective 8 January 2020 16,000 miles or one year, whichever comes first 16,000 miles or one year, whichever comes first
Model Year 2020.5, effective 2 September 2020 12,500 miles or one year, whichever comes first 20,000 miles or one year, whichever comes first

The change between these UK publications makes it important to check the car’s model-year documentation and service record. The figures above are the intervals stated in the respective guides, not a claim that every national market used the same schedule. See the January 2020 UK guide and September 2020.5 UK guide.

How safe is the 2020 Corsa?

Euro NCAP published its Opel/Vauxhall Corsa assessment in November 2019. The assessment reports 84% for adult occupant protection, 86% for child occupant protection, 66% for vulnerable road users and 69% for safety assist. These are scores for the tested model family, not proof that every trim has identical safety equipment. Euro NCAP’s rating-validity table covers several petrol outputs, a diesel and battery-electric versions; its history records the Corsa-e addition in May 2021.

The assessment also describes limits in the driver-assistance systems: the standard camera-based AEB detects pedestrians and other vehicles but cannot respond to faster-moving vulnerable road users such as cyclists. An optional radar-based system offered enhanced performance but was not assessed. The lane-support system alerts the driver and applies gentle corrective steering; it does not intervene in more critical situations in the way some systems do. Check the equipment on the individual car rather than inferring it from the model name. See the Euro NCAP Corsa assessment.

Does a 2020 Opel Corsa have a recall?

There are official notices relevant to some Corsa F vehicles, but neither notice means every car registered in 2020 is affected. One French government notice concerns a steering-column fault in vehicles manufactured from 25 September through 30 December 2019. It warns that a column not made to specification could fail and lead to loss of control. Because that production period is in 2019, it may be relevant to a car sold or registered as a 2020 vehicle, but the notice does not establish any particular car’s build date or repair status. The notice was dated 8 May 2020 and updated 29 October 2021: RappelConso notice A12/00686/20.

A separate French government notice dated 23 April 2021 and updated 10 December 2021 covers certain three- and five-door Corsa F and Corsa-e vehicles manufactured in 2020 and 2021. It says insufficient electrical grounding could cause unintended side-airbag deployment and advises contacting a dealer. It is cohort-specific, not evidence that all 2020 Corsas are affected: RappelConso notice A11/00032/21.

How to check a particular car

  1. Find the vehicle’s 17-character VIN on its V5C registration document or on the vehicle.
  2. Enter the VIN in Vauxhall’s recall checker and follow its instructions to contact an authorized repairer.
  3. Ask the manufacturer or authorized repairer to confirm whether any campaign applies and whether it has been completed. A registration year or a public notice cannot confirm an individual car’s status.

Vauxhall states that recall campaigns are carried out free of charge. The checker’s guidance is for Vauxhall owners; Opel owners outside the UK should confirm the appropriate national process with their local Opel network.

Where can I find the 2020 Opel Corsa owner’s manual?

Vauxhall provides a July 2020 new-Corsa owner’s manual, and Opel France’s manual index lists both “Opel Corsa 2020” and “Opel Corsa 2020.5.” Match the manual’s market and edition to the car: the manual’s front matter says its information is effective as of its publication date and that specifications and features can change. Vauxhall’s owner’s manual index and Opel France’s manual index provide official access; a paid copy is not necessary to obtain the official manual.
