The 2020 Mercedes-Benz E 450 Cabriolet is a four-seat, two-door luxury convertible offered with rear-wheel drive or 4MATIC all-wheel drive. Mercedes-Benz’s 2019 technical release specifies a turbocharged 3.0-liter inline-six with EQ Boost, 362 hp and 369 lb-ft, paired with a nine-speed automatic. The car’s appeal is its combination of open-air driving, four-passenger layout and comfort equipment; the compromises include limited convertible cargo space and figures that vary between Mercedes’ launch documents.
What the 2020 E 450 Cabriolet is
This is the 2020 U.S.-market E-Class convertible, not the refreshed 2021 model. Mercedes described the 2021 E 450 as using a new inline-six with EQ Boost; for 2020, its June 2019 technical release identifies the engine as a 3.0-liter turbocharged inline-six with EQ Boost. The separate 2020 quick reference guide contains conflicting descriptions in parts of its material, so the technical-release specification is cited here rather than blending model years or documents. Mercedes-Benz’s 2020 technical release
Mercedes’ brochure describes a reinforced convertible body and pop-up roll bars. The official materials identify four seats and two doors; that is the advertised layout, not a guarantee that the rear seats will suit every adult or trip. 2020 E-Class Cabriolet brochure
Engine, performance and fuel economy
The technical release lists 362 hp at 5,500–6,000 rpm and 369 lb-ft of torque at 1,600–4,500 rpm, delivered through Mercedes’ 9G-TRONIC nine-speed automatic. It gives manufacturer-estimated 0–60 mph times of 5.2 seconds for RWD and 4.9 seconds for 4MATIC, with a 130-mph electronically limited top speed. These are Mercedes’ published figures, not independent measurements or a report of a test drive. Mercedes-Benz technical release, June 21, 2019

Mercedes’ two 2020 launch documents disagree on some key figures. Keep the values attached to their source rather than treating them as a single verified set:
| Figure | Technical release | Quick reference guide |
|---|---|---|
| RWD 0–60 mph | 5.2 seconds, manufacturer estimate | 5.1 seconds, manufacturer estimate |
| 4MATIC 0–60 mph | 4.9 seconds, manufacturer estimate | 5.1 seconds, manufacturer estimate |
| RWD fuel economy | 23 city / 30 highway / 25 combined mpg | 20 city / 27 highway / 23 combined mpg |
| 4MATIC fuel economy | 23 city / 29 highway / 25 combined mpg | 19 city / 26 highway / 22 combined mpg |
The first set is from the June 21, 2019 technical release; the second is from Mercedes’ 2020 E-Class Cabriolet Quick Reference Guide. The available material does not reconcile the differences.

RWD or 4MATIC: what changes
Both configurations use the same engine and transmission according to the technical release. That release assigns the quicker estimated 0–60 time to 4MATIC, while the quick reference guide gives both drivetrains the same estimate. The fuel-economy figures also differ by drivetrain and by document, as shown above. Buyers considering a specific car should verify its drivetrain and consult the applicable vehicle labeling rather than assuming one published figure settles the question.
Tire fitment varies too. Mercedes lists 245/45 R18 tires at all four corners for 4MATIC. For RWD, it lists 245/45 R18 tires in front and 245/40 R18 tires at the rear. Check the car’s tire placard and exact wheel-and-axle setup before ordering replacements. Mercedes-Benz technical release

Open-air comfort and everyday practicality
Mercedes positions the Cabriolet as an all-season open-top car for four. Its quick reference guide describes AIRCAP, which manages airflow around the cabin, and AIRSCARF, which directs heat around occupants’ necks. Those are manufacturer descriptions of the systems, not independent measurements of wind comfort or proof that the rear seats will be comfortable for every passenger. Mercedes-Benz quick reference guide
The technical release gives 9.5 cubic feet of cargo volume with the top up and labels top-down capacity “TBA.” Car and Driver’s overview notes that cargo space is reduced with the roof down, but the available sources do not provide a confirmed top-down volume. Pack accordingly if the car will regularly carry luggage with the roof stowed. Car and Driver’s 2020 E-Class overview

Size, weight and original pricing
The technical release lists a 190.4-inch overall length and a 113.1-inch wheelbase. It gives curb weights of 4,332 pounds for RWD and 4,453 pounds for 4MATIC; the quick reference guide lists overall length as 190.0 inches and does not state curb weight. These values are source-specific rather than interchangeable. Technical release and quick reference guide
Mercedes’ launch documents also disagree on original list prices and destination charges:
| Source | RWD base MSRP | 4MATIC base MSRP | Destination and delivery |
|---|---|---|---|
| Technical release | $71,950 | $74,450 | $1,050, excluded from base MSRPs |
| Quick reference guide | $71,400 | $73,900 | $995, excluded from starting prices |
These are launch-document figures, not current used-car values. The $550 difference in each base price and the $55 difference in destination charge are unresolved in the cited documents. Technical release and quick reference guide
Is the 2020 E 450 Cabriolet worth buying?
It is a compelling used-car candidate for someone who specifically wants a four-seat Mercedes convertible with a powerful turbocharged six-cylinder engine, available all-wheel drive and comfort-focused open-air features. It is a less natural fit if maximum luggage capacity, consistent rear-seat use or a single definitive published performance and economy figure is essential. Assess the actual car’s equipment, condition, drivetrain and tire fitment, and treat its four-seat description as a layout rather than a promise of generous space.
