Hyundai offered six trims with three powertrain combinations. These are historical new-car prices announced in 2019—not estimates of what a used Elantra costs today.
2020 Hyundai Elantra U.S. launch prices and powertrains
Hyundai Motor America announced these 2020 model-year MSRPs on May 14, 2019. The $920 freight charge was additional. Hyundai said manual-transmission versions of the SE and Sport were discontinued.

These figures are Hyundai’s original U.S. launch prices, not current used-car values. Cars.com displays a different price range—$19,300 for SE to $24,150 for Sport—and uses the name “Value Edition.” That secondary listing does not match Hyundai’s dated launch-price table, so the figures above are kept separate rather than combined.
Engine and transmission choices
The SE, SEL, Value, and Limited pair a 2.0-liter Atkinson-cycle four-cylinder with Hyundai’s Intelligent Variable Transmission (IVT). The Eco switches to a 1.4-liter turbocharged GDI four-cylinder and a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission; the Sport uses a 1.6-liter turbo GDI four-cylinder with the same transmission type. The trim name therefore matters when comparing specifications or used listings.

Fuel economy reported at launch
Hyundai Motor America’s May 2019 release reported EPA combined fuel economy of 35 mpg for the SE and 34 mpg for the SEL, Value Edition, and Limited. The release’s table did not provide Eco or Sport figures, so those values should not be inferred from it. Hyundai said the listed combined figures were each two mpg higher than the comparable 2019 figures in its table.
For a separate, trim-specific reference, Cars.com lists the 2020 SE at 30 mpg city and 40 mpg highway. Those are figures for its SE listing, not a substitute for the launch release’s combined figures or a claim about every trim.

Standard driver-assistance features
Hyundai said three SmartSense features were standard on the U.S. 2020 Elantra:
- Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist (FCA): Hyundai said the front-facing camera helps detect an imminent collision and can apply the brakes.
- Lane Keeping Assist (LKA): Hyundai said the system detects road markings and can steer if necessary.
- Driver Attention Warning: Hyundai described the system as monitoring driver-related characteristics for signs of fatigue.
These are the manufacturer’s descriptions of driver-assistance systems; they do not replace an attentive driver.

Selected SE specifications and package detail
Cars.com’s 2020 SE listing identifies it as a four-door, five-seat, front-wheel-drive car with a 147-hp 2.0-liter four-cylinder. The listing gives a length of 181.9 inches and a height of 56.5 inches. It also lists a Winter Weather Package that includes mudguards and all-weather floor mats. These details are specific to that secondary-source SE listing; confirm a particular car’s equipment and package fitment rather than assuming they apply to other trims.

Hyundai Motor Company’s 2020 global-market brochure shows the Elantra’s exterior styling, feature illustrations, and color options. It highlights a Parametric Jewel-pattern grille, elongated headlights, and an integrated H-shaped rear lamp. The brochure also cautions that specifications can vary by country or region, some pictured equipment may be optional, and printed color representations may differ from the actual colors. Use it as visual context, not as proof that a feature or specification applies to a U.S.-market trim.

What to use when comparing used 2020 Elantras
The launch MSRP helps explain how Hyundai positioned each trim when new, but it is not a present-day valuation. Compare actual listings using the trim and powertrain, installed equipment, mileage, condition and history, location, and the date of the asking price. A car’s original price alone cannot establish what it is worth now.
