Those road impressions come from an international launch drive, not a long-term test.
What changed in the 2019 V-Class?
The facelift’s headline mechanical changes were the OM 654 four-cylinder diesel and the 9G-TRONIC automatic transmission for the V 300 d. Mercedes-Benz also revised the front design and assistance systems. The update was therefore more than a new engine, but the available launch-drive account does not establish the equipment fitted to every market or trim.
Mercedes-Benz France said V-Class sales had reached 209,000 units since June 2014, with a record 64,000 sold worldwide in 2018. Those are historical figures published by the manufacturer in 2019, not independently audited sales data.
How powerful is the V 300 d?
Mercedes-Benz rated the V 300 d’s OM 654 diesel at 176 kW (239 PS) and 500 Nm, making it the highest-output diesel in the 2019 facelift range described in its release. For context, the same release lists the V 220 d at 120 kW and 380 Nm, and the V 250 d at 140 kW and 440 Nm. All three figures are manufacturer specifications; output alone does not establish how a particular body length, drivetrain or passenger configuration performs.

Mercedes-Benz France quoted a brief additional 30 Nm during acceleration through an overtorque function. The Ireland market price list gives the V 300 d a 0–100 km/h time of 7.8 seconds and a maximum speed of 220 km/h. Mercedes-Benz France instead quotes 7.9 seconds to 100 km/h and the same 220 km/h maximum. The acceleration figures differ by source market; neither should be treated as a universal result for every V 300 d configuration.
What is the 2019 V 300 d like to drive?
TimesLIVE journalist Mark Smyth reported on an international launch drive near Barcelona. He described the V 300 d’s pulling power as excellent and said suspension revisions substantially improved ride comfort over the previous model’s firm rear axle. He also noted noticeable body roll when the vehicle was driven hard. These are his impressions from a launch drive, not instrumented measurements or evidence about long-term comfort.

Smyth also commented on good steering feel and visibility. His comparison of power delivery across the rev range favored the V 250 d for smoothness; that observation is his assessment, not a measured refinement result. The V 300 d’s greater quoted output should not be confused with a claim that it is smoother in every driving situation.
A separate South African “Driven” report by AutoAdvisor tested a V 250 d and stated that the V 300 d was not being offered locally. Its driving comments therefore do not establish how the V 300 d itself drives.

What are the official fuel-consumption and emissions figures?
For the cited European-market V 300 d configuration, Mercedes-Benz’s 2019 material lists combined test-cycle fuel consumption of 6.1–5.9 l/100 km and combined CO₂ emissions of 161–155 g/km. These are official test-cycle ranges, not a promise of real-world economy. They should not be applied to every V 300 d: Mercedes-Benz lists different figures for 4MATIC, and results vary with drivetrain, market and exact configuration.
Which body and tyre specification applies?
The Ireland market list distinguishes Compact, Long and Extra-long V 300 d body variants and lists 225/55 R17 tyres for its V 300 d entry. That is a dated, market-specific specification, not confirmation that every V 300 d left the factory on that size. Mercedes-Benz also cautions that equipment and optional accessories can affect vehicle characteristics.
