The 2019 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 brought a redesigned exterior compared with the outgoing model: a new grille and front fascia, more sculpted bodywork, a wider bed, and aerodynamic details integrated into the front end, cab, and tailgate. The exact look varies by trim, so a fair comparison needs to match both trucks’ trim and cab/bed configuration.
Front end: a new grille and fascia, with trim-specific styling
The 2019 Silverado 1500’s front end was redesigned, including a new grille and fascia. Chevrolet’s 2019 brochure says each of the truck’s eight trims has a distinct grille and front fascia, as well as its own wheel design. That means a base-trim 2019 Silverado should not be treated as representative of every version.
Chevrolet also described functional air curtains in the front fascia and shutters behind the grille. These details are part of the redesign’s airflow strategy, not just styling features. The available sources support comparing the grille and fascia, but do not establish a reliable headlamp-by-headlamp specification comparison across the lineup.
Side profile: more sculpted bodywork and changed proportions
Cars.com described the redesigned bodywork as more sculpted. Chevrolet’s brochure characterizes the truck as taller and with a longer wheelbase, but proportions depend on body style and configuration.

For crew-cab models specifically, Cars.com reported a four-inch wheelbase increase and a 1.5-inch increase in overall length in its 2018 coverage of the 2019 truck. Those figures should not be generalized to every cab and bed combination.
Bed: wider, with length still dependent on configuration
Cars.com reported that the redesigned bed was nearly seven inches wider than before. It also reported longer versions among models without the eight-foot bed. Because bed dimensions and available lengths vary by configuration, compare the same cab and bed layout when assessing two trucks side by side.

Tailgate and rear airflow
Cars.com reported that Chevrolet lettering was stamped into all 2019 Silverado 1500 tailgates. Chevrolet’s brochure also describes a tailgate shelf as part of the truck’s aerodynamic design. In its words, “A front air dam, an integrated spoiler on the back of the cab and the tailgate shelf work together to optimize airflow.”

Chevrolet’s 2019 Silverado brochure presents the aerodynamic changes as functional and reports the following figures. These are manufacturer claims, not independent test results.

Chevrolet says all eight trims have distinct grilles, front fascias, and wheel designs. Its official gallery labels examples including RST, High Country, and Trail Boss, illustrating why trim identification matters when comparing photos or vehicles.
