Why the 2019 X5 mattered

Fuel economy
Published EPA combined figures in Car and Driver’s specifications span approximately 19–22 mpg depending on engine and configuration. In that publication’s highway testing, the xDrive40i returned 28 mpg and the xDrive50i returned 23 mpg. Those are test results rather than guarantees; tire size, traffic, weather, driving style, condition, and the vehicle’s equipment all affect real-world economy.
How the 2019 X5 drives

The 2019 X5 was available with either five or seven seats. Adults should have comfortable room in the first two rows, and the enlarged body helps the X5 work well as a five-seat family vehicle.
The optional third row is a different story. The rear seats can be folded from the side or from the rear of the vehicle, which is convenient when loading from the tailgate.
BMW retained its two-piece tailgate, and both the upper and lower sections are powered. The lower section creates a useful loading edge and can serve as a seat at the tailgate, but it may make it harder to slide especially long or bulky objects into the cargo area. Roof rails and the available range of wheel sizes also support family use involving luggage, bicycles, skis, or outdoor equipment.

Some of the most desirable luxury equipment was optional.
