The 2018 Bentley Continental GT3 is the second-generation Continental GT3 race car, introduced for the 2018 season. It was developed with M-Sport from the third-generation Continental GT road car, but it is a purpose-built GT3 racer—not a road-going trim. Its launch-era specification included a race-prepared twin-turbo V8, bespoke aerodynamics and chassis equipment, and a manufacturer-stated race-ready weight target significantly below 1,300 kg.
What is the 2018 Bentley Continental GT3?
Bentley based the second-generation GT3 on the mostly aluminium structure of the third-generation Continental GT road car. Bentley Motorsport and technical partner M-Sport developed it as a competition car for GT3 racing, where regulations and Balance of Performance shape how each car can be run. The shared basis does not make it a road-car option package: the GT3 received race-specific engineering and equipment. How much power does it have?
ADAC GT Masters’ November 2017 launch-era report describes a 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8 developed from the existing engine, with new dry-sump oil, intake and exhaust systems. It reported more than 550 bhp unrestricted. That is an unrestricted launch-era figure, not a guaranteed output for every race: series rules and Balance of Performance can regulate a car’s race configuration. ADAC GT Masters’ technical report also describes a wind-tunnel-developed aerodynamic package with a splitter, rear wing and diffuser, plus new brakes and suspension.
What changed from the road-car basis?
The road car supplied a structural starting point, while the GT3 was engineered around competition. Bentley said the mostly aluminium structure would support a race-ready weight significantly below 1,300 kg. This was the manufacturer’s launch target, not a measured weight for every configuration. - Structure and mass: Road-car aluminium architecture adapted for racing; the under-1,300-kg description was Bentley’s target.
- Engine systems: The 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8 was developed with a dry-sump oil system and new intake and exhaust systems, according to ADAC’s period report.
- Aerodynamics and chassis: Race-specific splitter, rear wing and diffuser, with new brakes and suspension, as described by ADAC.
- Race output: The unrestricted figure is not interchangeable with a regulated race-day output.
When did the new car race, and who drove it?
Bentley’s 2018 program did not put the new-generation car on the grid at every early-season event. The season was planned to begin at Bathurst with the current-spec, first-generation Continental GT3 for homologation reasons. Bentley planned the second-generation car’s debut at Monza in the Blancpain GT Series Endurance Cup. The six named works drivers for the 2018 season were Guy Smith, Steven Kane, Andy Soucek, Maxime Soulet, Vince Abril and new signing Jules Gounon. Bentley said two new second-generation Team M-Sport cars were planned for the Blancpain GT Series Endurance Cup, alongside a full Intercontinental GT Challenge campaign. Is there a 2018 Bentley Continental GT3 model car?
Yes. Bentley’s 2019 retailer guide documents a 1:43 resin model in the livery used at Monza in 2018. Bentley’s collection has also listed a 1:38 die-cast Continental GT3 pull-back toy, and Mattel lists a Hot Wheels Car Culture Circuit Legends 2018 Bentley Continental GT3. These are miniatures for collectors or play, not replacement parts for the race car.
