The available reports describe the planned entry and modifications, but do not establish whether the car started or how it finished.
Which race was the Outlander PHEV built for?
Mitsubishi announced the vehicle for the Baja Portalegre 500, a cross-country rally held in the Portalegre municipality of eastern Portugal. “Baja” is part of the event’s name; it does not mean the car was entered in a Baja California race. The announcement described the vehicle as based on the production Outlander PHEV and modified for competition. Mitsubishi’s announcement and a contemporary AutoIndustriya event report place the rally on October 22–24, 2015. AutoIndustriya called it the tenth round of the FIA Cross Country World Cup.
The “500” in the event name should not be treated as a verified course-distance figure: the cited reports do not specify the measured route length. The “2016” label in the article title likewise does not change the event date; the announcement concerned a 2015 race.
What was changed for rally use?
The contemporary accounts identify several changes, but they do not provide a complete engineering specification.

- Ride height and suspension: the car was given greater ground clearance and longer suspension stroke.
- Tires: larger tires were reported.
- Hybrid system: Mitsubishi’s announcement described a modified battery intended to provide greater capacity and output. Another contemporary report also described changes to the control software for the electric motors, generator and combustion engine. That report does not give software details or quantified performance figures.
These are reported modifications, not evidence of a particular power output, suspension measurement, tire size, race class or component brand. No such specification is established by the cited accounts.
Who was driving?
Mitsubishi named Hiroshi Masuoka as driver and team captain. Masuoka was a two-time Dakar Rally winner, a credential cited in the announcement. The reports identify him as the planned driver; they do not independently establish that he took the start.

Did the Outlander PHEV race, and how did it finish?
The available reporting establishes that Mitsubishi announced an entry for the Baja Portalegre 500. It does not establish a confirmed start, finish, or placing, and it gives no qualifying published performance statistic for the car. An announced race program should not be mistaken for a documented result.

The cited reports do not document a purchasable replica or race-specific replacement parts compatible with this build. Although the competition vehicle was based on a production Outlander PHEV, that relationship alone does not show that its modified components can be replaced with ordinary road-car parts. Check fitment against the exact vehicle and part documentation rather than assuming the rally modifications carry over to a production model.
