Who won the GT class at Le Mans in 2016?
Ford Chip Ganassi Racing’s #68 Ford GT won LM GTE Pro, the professional GT category at the 2016 race. The three drivers were Sébastien Bourdais, Joey Hand and Dirk Müller. That distinction matters: Le Mans awards results across multiple classes. The #68 won its class, not the race’s overall classification.
How did the four Ford GTs finish?
Ford brought four cars to Le Mans with Chip Ganassi Racing. The following are their LM GTE Pro race positions, not qualifying results:

How did the Ford GT qualify?
Before the race, Dirk Müller put the #68 on LM GTE Pro pole with a 3:51.185 lap. Ford said its four cars qualified first, second, fourth and fifth in class. Those are grid positions; they should not be confused with the finishing order, in which the Fords placed first, third, fourth and ninth. Ford’s qualifying announcement

Why was Ford’s 2016 return significant?

The effort drew on Ford’s wider endurance-racing program: the 2016 entries were split between the FIA World Endurance Championship and IMSA during the season before coming together at Le Mans. Was the Le Mans Ford GT the same as the road car?
The race car was based on the new Ford GT, but it was a competition machine rather than an unchanged road car. Ford highlighted lightweight carbon-fiber construction, aerodynamic development and a twin-turbocharged 3.5-litre EcoBoost V6 in its description of the racing program.
