What is the McLaren P1 GTR?
McLaren describes the P1 GTR as a track-focused development of the P1, created in response to owners who wanted a more extreme circuit car. The GTR was available only to P1 owners, and McLaren says its production began after the 375th and final P1 road car was completed. What makes the P1 GTR track-focused?
McLaren identifies several features intended for the GTR’s circuit-oriented design:
- A large rear wing featuring a Formula 1-derived Drag Reduction System (DRS).
- A model-specific, straight-cut twin-pipe exhaust.
- Wing mirrors repositioned with the stated aim of reducing aerodynamic drag.
These are manufacturer descriptions of the car’s design, not independent measurements of aerodynamic or performance gains.

What came with the original GTR ownership programme?
McLaren’s account of the original programme includes events at international Formula 1 circuits, access to the McLaren Racing driver simulator, and support from a team of race technicians. These describe the ownership programme attached to the GTR; they do not establish that the same benefits are available today.
Is there an official P1 GTR handbook?

What is not established about a 2016 example?
The manufacturer overview does not establish an exact P1 GTR production total, changes specific to model year 2016, current road legality in any jurisdiction, current programme availability, market price, or the provenance of an individual car. A buyer or researcher should verify claims about a specific vehicle against its records and the rules applicable where it will be used.
