The “2017” in this title identifies the model-year variant; Piaggio announced the collaboration in June 2015, when it marked the 40th anniversary of Giorgio Armani and the Piaggio Group’s 130th. The 946 name refers to 1946, the year Piaggio says the first Vespa was made.
What makes the Emporio Armani edition different?
The scooter was developed jointly by Giorgio Armani and Piaggio as a special interpretation of Vespa design. Piaggio’s June 9, 2015 announcement describes grey paint with a subtle green cast visible in certain light, matt-treated metallic parts, Emporio Armani lettering on the side and the Armani eagle logo above the headlight. The period description also identifies aluminium cylinder blocks and brown leather finishes.
These details are useful when identifying an example, but paint and badges alone do not establish a vehicle’s authenticity or history. For a particular scooter, compare its identifying records and documentation with information from an authorised Vespa dealer.
Engine, brakes and equipment
Piaggio’s period editorial account identifies a 125cc, three-valve engine with ABS and ASR traction control. Its launch announcement specifies electronic fuel injection, dual-channel ABS, two 220 mm disc brakes and 12-inch wheels. The period account also lists full LED lighting and indicators and a full LCD panel.

These are period specifications, not a guarantee that every scooter registered as a 2017 model has identical equipment in every country. Registration documents, VIN-specific records and the local market specification should be checked for an individual vehicle. A specialist catalogue lists a “Vespa 946 125 4T 3V ABS – ARMANI (2017)” variant, but catalogue labels do not replace manufacturer fitment confirmation.
Was it a limited edition?
Piaggio described the Emporio Armani 946 as an exclusive run of individually numbered scooters. Its contemporary magazine coverage also calls it a numbered limited collection and mentions a buyer welcome kit and delivery gift. The reviewed official accounts do not state the total production run, so a precise number, rarity ranking or present-day value cannot be established from them.

For a used example, ask for its numbered documentation and any original delivery materials, then assess condition and provenance separately. The sources do not establish that every scooter still has its original kit or accessories.

Dedicated period accessories
Piaggio’s period account names an Emporio Armani collection that included bags, a helmet and a vehicle cover. That establishes what was offered as part of the collection, not whether those items remain available or fit a particular scooter today.

Checking current accessories
Vespa’s official accessories page describes categories such as bags and hard cases, windshields, electronic devices, saddles, racks and anti-theft accessories. It does not establish compatibility with the 2017 Armani edition for each item. Confirm model fitment before buying; for a cover, check dimensions and clearance rather than assuming a generic scooter cover will fit.
Finding replacement parts
Vespa recommends original parts and accessories and directs customers to an authorised service centre. For a repair or restoration, provide the scooter’s VIN and market information and have the dealer confirm the part number and fitment before ordering. See Vespa’s original parts guidance.

What to compare when buying one
There is no direct model-to-model comparison established by the cited period accounts. When evaluating an Armani edition against another Vespa 946, focus on documented differences and the condition of the specific vehicle:
