The 2016 Abarth 124 Rally was a purpose-built, rear-wheel-drive R-GT competition car based on the 124 Spider concept—not a road-going Spider with rally decals. Abarth’s published specifications listed a 1,800 cm³ turbocharged engine producing up to 300 HP at 6,500 rpm, a six-speed sequential gearbox and competition-specific suspension. Abarth first unveiled it as a prototype in March 2016, then announced in September that it was classified in Group R-GT and ready for competition.
What was the 2016 Abarth 124 Rally?
It was Abarth’s modern rally car for the FIA R-GT category, developed from the 124 Spider concept for competition on varied surfaces. The designation can be confusing: this is the modern car unveiled in 2016, not the historic Fiat 124 Abarth Rally of the 1970s.
The car was more than a road Spider with a competition livery. Abarth described structural reinforcement and a safety roll cage as part of the R-GT classification process, alongside rally-specific suspension and work on weight distribution. Its stated development environments included ice, dirt, dust, water and heat. The September 2016 release described road and gravel configurations. Abarth’s September 2016 announcement
What were its engine and drivetrain specifications?
Abarth’s 1 March 2016 press material published the following figures. They are manufacturer specifications, not independent test results. Abarth’s March 2016 specification announcement

| Component | Published specification |
|---|---|
| Engine | 1,800 cm³ turbocharged direct-injection engine |
| Maximum power | Up to 300 HP at 6,500 rpm; Abarth said the engine had selectable mappings |
| Transmission | Six-speed sequential gearbox with paddle shifts |
| Differential | Mechanical limited-slip differential |
| Driven wheels | Rear-wheel drive |
The engine was mounted behind the front axle, according to Abarth. The published 300 HP figure belongs to the competition car and should not be treated as the specification of every road-going Abarth 124 Spider.
How was the rally car different from the road-going 124 Spider?
Abarth’s descriptions point to changes in purpose, structure and hardware—not simply appearance. The road car’s soft top was replaced by a fixed composite hard top, while reinforcement and a roll cage addressed the competition car’s safety structure. The engine position, sequential gearbox, limited-slip differential and rear-wheel-drive layout were presented as part of the rally specification. Abarth’s March 2016 release

- Contents: This 131 small sedan was released by Fiat in Italy, which was highly regarded by its simple yet advanced exterior design. This item is sold as a new mold item for hot wheels, but the name of Abbalt 131 was tuned by the prestigious company that has been developing race cars and rally cars since the old time. The engine is equipped with a dedicated 2-liter DOHC4 cylinder, which makes it lightweight while strengthening the body and leg area of the vehicle and leg. The appearance was overfender to put on thick tires, removing heavy front and rear bumpers, and instead equipped with aerodynamic parts. It is also very useful in the WRC (World Rally Championship) and has earned the Manufacturer's title (titles given to the most winner machine manufacturer)

Suspension was also competition-specific: Abarth listed double wishbones at the front and a multi-link arrangement at the rear, with metal joints and adjustable dampers. At the June presentation, it specified EXT SHOX four-position adjustable dampers. Abarth also credited BMC with developing the intake system and OZ Racing with supplying competition wheels; those are period supplier attributions, not current replacement-part recommendations. When was it unveiled, and when was it ready to compete?
The 2016 announcements mark separate stages in the car’s launch. In March, Abarth unveiled a prototype at the Geneva Motor Show and opened pre-booking for a planned 2017 rally season. At its June presentation in Sardinia, it published an inquiry and order route. In September, Abarth said the car was classified in Group R-GT, orders were open and the competition program was ready. These are historical announcements; they do not establish present-day sales, support or parts availability.

What did Group R-GT mean for its eligibility?
Abarth described the 124 Rally as a Group R-GT car and said in 2016 that it could enter international and most national competitions. The FIA’s 2016 World Rally Championship sporting regulations refer to RGT cars conforming to the corresponding 2016 Appendix J provisions, providing period context for the classification.
That history does not establish eligibility for a present-day event. Teams should check the current regulations and the event’s supplementary rules with the relevant organizer or governing body before assuming a particular car can enter.

What should buyers know about the 2016 Abarth 124 Rally today?
The historical releases document Abarth’s 2016 order and event-support plans, including technical support and direct spare-parts sales at events. They do not verify a current factory sales channel, support program or parts supplier. Abarth’s June inquiry route is likewise a period contact detail, not a confirmed live purchasing channel.
Miniatures need a similar date and identity check. IXO catalogues Abarth 124 RGT models, and a documented retail example is a 1:43 die-cast car representing a 2022 Monte Carlo RGT entry. That later event livery is not an exact replica of the 2016 prototype, and the listing does not establish present stock or pricing. IXO model catalogue
