Its 1.8-litre supercharged engine was rated at 217 hp, while its added aerodynamic package, track hardware and 932 kg unladen mass set it apart from the standard Elise S. Lotus presented it as a road car with track-day capability—not as the Cup R race car.

What distinguishes the S Cup from an Elise S?
A track-focused aerodynamic package
The S Cup added a front splitter with end winglets, lateral bargeboards, a fixed roof, a rear wing and a rear diffuser. Lotus reported 66 kg of downforce at 100 mph and 125 kg at 140 mph. Those are manufacturer figures from the 2014 launch material, not independent measurements. Lotus also said the S Cup was three seconds quicker than the Elise S around its test track; that, too, is the company’s comparison, not a third-party test.
Lotus described the S Cup as the most track-focused Elise in the range at the time. The package was intended to sharpen track performance while retaining road-going use, rather than turn the car into a dedicated race car. The launch description and downforce figures appear in Lotus’s 5 September 2014 announcement and its December 2014 launch update.

Suspension and track equipment
The published equipment list names sport suspension with an adjustable front anti-roll bar, double-shear rear track-control arms and Sport mode Dynamic Performance Management. A competition-specification roll hoop was standard. Lotus said wiring changes allowed a fire-extinguisher system and electrical kill switch to be retrofitted; those systems were listed as optional equipment, along with harness equipment, a tow-eye kit, air conditioning and alternate wheels and tires.
These are historic factory fitment and option details, not confirmation of what a particular used car has now. Check its specification, modifications and equipment directly, and confirm current compatibility with a Lotus specialist before ordering parts or safety equipment.

How the Elise S Cup compares with the Elise S and Cup R
The key distinction is purpose: the Elise S Cup was a road-going model with track-focused additions, while the Elise Cup R was the race car from which Lotus said the S Cup was developed. The sources establish the S Cup’s positioning above the Elise, Elise S and Club Racer in price and track focus, but do not provide complete side-by-side specifications for all versions.
| Model | Road use and role | What the available launch information establishes |
|---|---|---|
| Elise S Cup | Road-going, track-focused Elise | Developed from the Cup R; published specification includes 217 hp, 932 kg unladen mass and the aerodynamic and equipment details above. |
| Elise S | Standard Elise S; the S Cup was positioned as the more track-focused version | Lotus claimed a three-second S Cup advantage around its test track. A complete comparable specification is not stated in the cited launch sources. |
| Elise Cup R | Race-oriented car | Identified by Lotus as the S Cup’s development basis. A complete comparable specification is not stated in the cited launch sources. |
Do not confuse the S Cup with the Cup R or later Cup 250 models: the S Cup name identifies this road-going version. The comparison is based on Lotus’s launch descriptions, not a complete technical audit of every model year or market.

Original tires and replacement fitment
The published original specification lists Yokohama Advan Neova AD07 LTS tires, sized 175/55 ZR16 at the front and 225/45 ZR17 at the rear. These dimensions can help identify model-relevant front and rear tire sizes, but they do not establish the correct current fitment on every surviving car. Verify the actual wheel size, tire specification and any modifications on the individual vehicle before buying replacements. No retailer inventory or compatibility listing is established here.
UK launch price and production context
Lotus announced a UK launch price from £43,500, including VAT and excluding on-the-road costs, in December 2014. The company said first cars were expected at the start of January 2015. Both figures describe the launch period; they are not current used-car valuations or confirmation of present availability. The announcement is in Lotus’s December 2014 release.

Lotus’s September 2014 release quoted then-chief executive Jean-Marc Gales describing the model’s focus on driving experience, performance, low weight, ride and handling. Such statements are launch-era positioning, not independent assessments of how a particular car drives today. A January 2015 report on the first production car also quoted Gales calling it faster on track than the standard Elise S; that is promotional language attributed to Gales in the report, not an independent test.

The launch specifications and manufacturer claims identify the S Cup’s intended character, but they do not establish current used prices, an individual car’s condition, present parts availability, or its registration and safety requirements in a particular jurisdiction. Nor do they provide an independently verified production total or third-party road-test measurements. Those questions require information specific to the car, market and date.
