That headline figure—and later reports of extensive testing—came from NanoFlowcell, not independent certification of a production car. The QUANTiNO is best understood as an experimental vehicle built around the company’s liquid-electrolyte energy system, rather than a retail electric car with a verified range rating.
What was the 2015 NanoFlowcell QUANTiNO?
NanoFlowcell AG presented the QUANTiNO at the 2015 Geneva International Motor Show as its first low-voltage QUANT vehicle. The launch announcement described it as a concept, and a 2015 Geneva retrospective said production approval remained a future milestone. The announcement’s figures therefore describe the company’s concept, not a production specification sheet. NanoFlowcell AG’s 2015 launch announcement and its 2015 Geneva retrospective provide the contemporaneous account.
What specifications did NanoFlowcell announce?
In 2015, NanoFlowcell announced a 48-volt system with four 25-kW motors, 136 hp total, a stated top speed of 200 km/h, and a range of over 1,000 kilometres. These were manufacturer claims about the concept; the reviewed sources do not provide independent verification of its range or performance.
| Announced item | 2015 figure | Qualification |
|---|---|---|
| System voltage | 48 V | Company-announced concept specification |
| Motors and output | 4 × 25 kW; 136 hp total | Company-announced concept specification |
| Top speed | 200 km/h | Company-stated figure; not independently verified in the reviewed sources |
| Range | Over 1,000 km | Company-stated claim; not an independently certified production-car rating |
NanoFlowcell’s chief technical officer, Nunzio La Vecchia, called it “the smaller brother” of the QUANT E and QUANT F and described it as an “innovative electric vehicle with mass appeal.” Those phrases were the company representative’s characterization, not evidence that the concept reached mass production.

How did the QUANTiNO’s energy system work?
NanoFlowcell said the vehicle was not charged from the electrical grid. Instead, its proprietary system used liquid electrolyte, which the company called bi-ION, and the vehicle was refueled with that liquid. The company reported 14 hours of non-stop testing in 2016, mainly under urban-cycle conditions and at speeds up to 74 km/h. Both the description of the energy system and the test figure are manufacturer-reported. NanoFlowcell’s 2016 account of the test does not independently establish efficiency, safety, environmental impact, or commercial readiness.
What did later QUANTiNO testing report?
2019: 350,000 km reported
In April 2019, NanoFlowcell said a QUANTiNO prototype had passed 350,000 km. The company broke that total down as more than 200,000 km on roads and 150,000 km on a test bed. It also acknowledged regular replacement of consumables such as brakes and tires, along with minor repairs. The total therefore was not all public-road driving, nor was the vehicle maintenance-free. NanoFlowcell’s 2019 report is the source for these company-reported figures.

2020: more than 500,000 km reported
In October 2020, NanoFlowcell reported that a QUANTiNO test car had covered more than 500,000 km over 56 months. The company said it had two 95-litre electrolyte tanks, average consumption of about 16 L/100 km, and an estimated range of around 1,140 km. These are reported test-car figures, not an independently certified rating for a customer vehicle. The company also said bi-ION would need to be available in sufficiently high quantities and consistent quality for the technology to become marketable. NanoFlowcell’s 2020 report supplies the figures and its statement about electrolyte availability.
Does the QUANTiNO’s range claim prove it could travel 1,000 km?
No independent test in the reviewed sources verifies the 2015 claim of more than 1,000 kilometres or the later estimated 1,140-km range. The 2020 number was associated with a company-reported prototype, its stated tank capacity and average consumption; it should not be treated as a standardized range rating. A fair comparison with a production EV would need comparable test conditions, a clear account of the energy supply and refueling infrastructure, and independently verified results. The available figures do not support a numeric head-to-head comparison with production electric cars.

Did the NanoFlowcell QUANTiNO go into production?
The cited reports establish a concept and subsequent prototype testing, but do not establish mass production, consumer sales, or current retail availability. The 2015 retrospective described production approval as a future milestone. In 2017, NanoFlowcell said it did not intend to become a vehicle manufacturer; it described its aim as licensing energy and EV technology and acting as an R&D partner. That statement indicates the company’s stated strategy at the time, not current program or product availability. NanoFlowcell’s 2017 statement outlines that approach.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. What is the QUANTiNO’s significance?
The QUANTiNO is notable as a company-developed concept for demonstrating NanoFlowcell’s proposed low-voltage drivetrain and liquid-electrolyte refueling model. Its long-distance figures attracted attention, and the company later reported substantial prototype mileage. But the evidence supports describing those figures as manufacturer claims and test reports—not independently validated production-car performance. The unresolved questions in the cited material include independent verification and the scalable availability and consistent quality of the electrolyte.
