Its defining feature is a three-motor hybrid system pairing a 3.5-liter V6 with Acura’s electric all-wheel-drive system. Acura published combined output of 377 horsepower and 341 lb-ft of torque, with launch fuel-economy ratings of 28 mpg city, 32 highway and 30 combined.
Why is it called a 2013 Acura RLX Sport Hybrid?
2013 is the announcement year, not the model year. Honda announced the car on November 18, 2013 as a 2014 model and said it would launch the following spring. Acura later announced that the RLX Sport Hybrid was on sale on September 26, 2014. For identification, shopping or parts research, use 2014 Acura RLX Sport Hybrid SH-AWD.
What powertrain and performance does it have?
The system combines a direct-injected 3.5-liter V6 with three electric motors and Acura’s Sport Hybrid SH-AWD. Acura’s 2014 launch specifications list combined output at 377 hp and 341 lb-ft of torque. These are manufacturer-published combined figures, not independent test results.
The hybrid was distinct from the conventional 2014 RLX with Precision All-Wheel Steer (P-AWS). Honda described that other model as having 310 hp; the Sport Hybrid instead used its three-motor powertrain and electric SH-AWD. The available specifications establish the powertrain distinction, but not a complete comparison of ownership costs or driving performance.

What fuel economy did Acura publish?
Acura’s launch ratings for both the Technology and Advance packages were 28 mpg city, 32 mpg highway and 30 mpg combined. These are the manufacturer’s published launch ratings, not a promise of real-world fuel economy for an individual used car.
How is the hybrid system laid out?
The hybrid components are distributed through the cabin rather than confined to the engine bay. Acura’s technical description places the Power Drive Unit beneath the center console and the Intelligent Power Unit behind the rear seatback. The latter contains the lithium-ion battery, a 12-volt DC/DC converter, a junction board and electronic control units for the motors and battery.

An integrated fan cools the battery unit by drawing cabin air through an intake beneath the rear seats. That layout matters when inspecting or diagnosing the car: hybrid-system work involves components in the center-console and rear-seat areas and is specialized service, not a reason to open high-voltage components yourself.
What should a used-car buyer know about diagnosis?
Honda/Acura technical training material says hybrid-system diagnostic trouble codes require HDS or an equivalent scan tool. It does not establish that every consumer OBD-II reader can access the RLX’s hybrid-specific codes. If a warning light is present, confirm that the particular tool supports this model’s hybrid systems, or ask an Acura dealer or qualified specialist to scan it. A basic reader may still be useful for ordinary OBD-II checks, but do not treat it as proof that the hybrid system has no stored faults.

Because the battery unit depends on cabin-air cooling through an intake beneath the rear seats, an inspection should also account for that intake and the surrounding area. Have a qualified technician assess suspected hybrid-system problems; do not attempt high-voltage inspection or repair based on a generic scan-tool recommendation.

Acura listed the following as launch MSRPs in 2014. They are historical prices, not current used-car values.

What makes this RLX special?
The notable distinction is the combination of a V6, three electric motors and SH-AWD in a 2014 RLX. Acura said the Sport Hybrid SH-AWD system debuted in this model, using electric motor torque for both performance and efficiency. Its published 377-hp output and the placement of hybrid hardware through the cabin distinguish it from the conventional P-AWS RLX.
