American Honda’s official material identifies the Valkyrie Rune as a 2004 NRX1800, not a 2012 model. The specifications below apply only to that 2004 motorcycle. If you are identifying a bike advertised or registered as a “2012 Honda Rune,” confirm its model code and year before ordering parts or service publications.
Was there a 2012 Honda Rune?
The American Honda sources available for the Rune document a 2004 model with model code NRX1800. They do not substantiate a 2012 Rune. That means “2012 Honda Rune” should be treated as an unresolved year or identification mismatch—not as a verified model designation.
Check the motorcycle’s identification documents and vehicle identification number, and compare the model code with the machine itself. Do not assume that a listing’s year is correct or transfer the 2004 specifications to a different motorcycle.

These figures come from American Honda’s specification release for the 2004 Rune, dated September 2, 2003. They are manufacturer specifications, not independent measurements or test results.

Honda’s overview gives the tank capacity as 6.2 gallons, while its technical specification sheet lists 6.1 gallons. The table uses the specification-sheet figure; confirm the appropriate documentation for a particular bike. Honda also says the California version differs slightly because of emissions equipment.
What made the Rune distinctive?
Honda’s account traces the Rune’s design to its T2 concept, one of a group of concepts shown publicly in 2000, and cites the Zodia concept, first shown in 1995, as another influence. Honda also places the earlier six-cylinder Valkyrie in the Rune’s lineage. These are the manufacturer’s descriptions of the bike’s design history.

The unusual front suspension was a trailing-bottom-link arrangement, paired with a single-shock Unit Pro-Link rear system. In a September 2, 2003 interview, Honda Large Project Leader Masanori Aoki described the effort to carry the design into production: “There were some production machines that started with styling models but the Rune is the first model that reproduced the original design fully and faithfully.”

- Confirm the motorcycle’s identity. Establish the model name and model year from its records and identification markings; check for the NRX1800 designation before relying on Rune-specific material.
- Use Honda’s publication lookup. Honda’s “Owner’s Manual/Parts Catalogue: Find the Model” portal instructs users to identify the model and, if possible, its year.
- Check availability for your country. Honda Motor Co.’s 2022 Motopub guide describes owner manuals and parts catalogues and notes that publication availability varies by country.
- Verify fitment before buying. The tire sizes in the table are listed for the 2004 Rune. They do not establish fitment for a vehicle described as a 2012 model, nor do they confirm that a particular tire or part is currently available.
The official resources named here are the American Honda releases “2004 Honda Rune Specifications,” “Honda Rune Overview,” and “Bringing The Dream To Reality” (all dated September 2, 2003), plus Honda’s publication lookup portal and Honda Motor Co.’s 2022 “What is Motopub?
