It combines V12 Vantage mechanical components with Zagato’s hand-crafted aluminium and carbon-fibre bodywork, including the signature double-bubble roof. Aston Martin lists the historic model as a 2012–2013 car.
What is the Aston Martin V12 Zagato?
Created by Aston Martin and Italian design house Zagato, the V12 Zagato was presented at Villa d’Este in May 2011 as a successor to their earlier collaborations. It won the Concorso d’Eleganza trophy at its debut. After customers responded to the concept, Zagato decided in July 2011 to build a limited road-car series. Manufacture began in summer 2012 at Aston Martin’s Gaydon headquarters.
Aston Martin describes the car as sharing mechanical components with the V12 Vantage. Its own model history calls it a “natural successor” to the marque’s earlier Zagato designs. The car is a coupe; its striking body is not simply a Vantage with new trim, but a hand-crafted aluminium and carbon-fibre skin shaped around familiar mechanical foundations.

Design and construction
Zagato’s signature roof and proportions
The most recognizable cue is the double-bubble roof, a long-standing Zagato design signature. Short overhangs and the sculpted coupe body distinguish the car from the V12 Vantage while retaining the family resemblance of its underlying mechanical package.

| Source | What it reports |
|---|---|
| Zagato | An original plan for 101 cars, with no more than 65 street versions built. |
| Aston Martin Heritage Trust Register figure, relayed by Aston Martins.com | 65 cars total: two race prototypes, two pre-production cars and 61 production cars. |
| RM Sotheby’s | An initial plan of 150 cars and 61 ultimately built. |
The Heritage Trust Register breakdown is the clearest account of what its 65-car total includes: only 61 are classed as production cars, with prototypes and pre-production cars making up the rest. Zagato’s street-car figure and the differing planned totals show why a simple claim that “65 road cars” were made would be misleading.
