2008 GranTurismo S specifications
Maserati announced the GranTurismo S in February 2008 and presented it as a world premiere at the Geneva motor show. Its headline changes over the GranTurismo were the larger 4.7-litre V8 and the electro-actuated gearbox with MC-Shift, arranged in a transaxle layout. What MC-Shift means
MC-Shift is an electro-actuated six-speed gearbox, not a conventional torque-converter automatic. Maserati’s description ties its fast shift function to specific operating conditions rather than presenting it as available on every shift.

When the fast upshift is available
According to Maserati, fast MC-Shift is available only on upshifts in Manual Sport mode when the transmission control unit recognizes that engine and transmission temperatures are within the required conditions. The stated operating thresholds are above 5,500 rpm and 80% throttle. The claim therefore describes a conditional shift feature, not a universal shift time or behavior. GranTurismo S versus GranTurismo S Automatic
The original GranTurismo S configuration announced in 2008 used the electro-actuated MC-Shift gearbox. Maserati later described the 2009 GranTurismo S Automatic as a separate configuration combining the same 4.7-litre V8 with a ZF six-speed automatic.
