Check your ATV’s model code before choosing a manual, ordering parts, or applying operating and maintenance instructions.
Which 2007 Honda Rancher do you have?
American Honda’s September 8, 2006 model-year pricing release identifies six 2007 Rancher configurations. The model code is the clearest way to distinguish them; the Rancher name alone does not establish drivetrain or transmission type.

How the 420 variants differ
Honda’s model names distinguish the 420 lineup by drivetrain and ES designation: the TM and TE are not labeled 4×4, while the FM and FE are labeled 4×4; the TE and FE carry the ES name. The 400 Rancher AT and AT GPScape are a separate model family, so do not assume that a TRX420 manual or specification applies to them.

For the TRX420FM, the owner’s manual describes a 2WD/4WD selection lever. That feature should not be generalized to every 2007 Rancher. The cited manual covers the TRX420TM and TRX420FM; it is not documentation for the TE, FE, or TRX400 AT variants. Confirm detailed equipment against the exact model’s documentation.
Find the correct manual and parts
- Locate the ATV’s model identification label and read the full model code, including its suffix.
- Match that code to the manual and parts information before following a procedure or ordering a component. A shared model year or Rancher badge is not enough to establish fit.
- For a TRX420TM or TRX420FM, use Honda’s 2007 TRX420TM/FM owner’s manual. Its instructions and maintenance details are limited to those versions.
- For a TRX420TE, TRX420FE, TRX400FA, or TRX400FGA, obtain documentation that explicitly covers that model code rather than relying on the TM/FM manual.

Important use and safety limits
Honda’s 2007 TRX420TM/FM manual states: “This vehicle is designed and manufactured for off-road use only.” It says U.S. versions do not conform to federal motor vehicle safety standards or on-highway exhaust regulations and that operation on public streets, roads, or highways is illegal. Follow applicable local laws; do not treat the ATV as a road-legal vehicle.
The manual describes the ATV as a recreational vehicle intended for one rider, not a passenger. It sets a 485 lb (220 kg) maximum weight capacity for the rider, cargo, and accessories combined. Rack and towing limits are separate; consult the manual for those limits rather than treating the overall capacity as a rack or trailer rating.

Maintenance intervals and service conditions
Honda’s TRX420TM/FM schedule is based on average riding conditions and says to service some items more frequently when riding in unusually wet or dusty conditions or at full throttle. It specifically calls for more frequent air-cleaner service in dusty conditions. Use the full task-by-task schedule for the correct model; the interval examples below are not a complete maintenance plan.
- Early scheduled interval: 100 miles (150 km), 20 operating hours, or one month, whichever comes first.
- Following regular interval: 600 miles (1,000 km), 100 operating hours, or 12 months, whichever comes first.
The manual says some maintenance can be done with basic mechanical skills and hand tools. Other work requires special training, tools, or equipment; have a qualified Honda dealer perform it unless you have the necessary skills and service information. These schedule details come from the TRX420TM/FM manual and should not be applied automatically to other 2007 Rancher codes.
