The 2007 Chevrolet Monte Carlo SS has a naturally aspirated 5.3-liter V8—not a supercharged V8. It is rated at 303 horsepower and 323 lb-ft of torque, paired with a four-speed automatic and front-wheel drive. The supercharged Monte Carlo SS most people remember is the earlier 2000–2006 model, which used a supercharged 3.8-liter V6.
What engine and performance hardware does the 2007 Monte Carlo SS have?
The model-year-specific SS specification lists a 5.3L V8 producing 303 hp and 323 lb-ft, a four-speed automatic transmission, and front-wheel drive. Chevrolet’s 2006 heritage material describes the adjacent-year SS V8 as a 5.3L small-block making those same output figures, and says it used Displacement on Demand. That system could run on four cylinders under some conditions; the manufacturer described it as a fuel-economy feature, not a source of supercharging.
The reviewed specifications do not identify a supercharger on the 2007 V8. The likely source of the mix-up is the previous generation: Consumer Guide says 2000–2006 Monte Carlo SS models used a supercharged 3.8L V6. Those cars and the 2007 SS are different powertrain generations, so “supercharged V8” is not an accurate description of the 2007 model.
What fuel does the 5.3L V8 use?
For the 5.3L V8 (VIN code C), the owner’s manual recommends premium unleaded gasoline rated 91 octane or higher. It also permits 87 octane or higher, but warns that lower octane can bring slightly reduced acceleration and possible spark knock. In practical terms, regular fuel is an allowed fallback under the manual’s guidance, not an equivalent performance recommendation.

How much does a 2007 Monte Carlo SS cost today?
There is no single dependable “bargain price” for every 2007 SS. Cars.com lists a historical starting MSRP of $27,740 when new; that is not a current used-car price. Edmunds displayed an estimated market value of $5,082 on its 2007 SS specifications page when accessed in 2026. That is one site’s estimate, not a completed-sale sample, a guaranteed offer, or evidence that a sound car is available at that price.
For an individual car, weigh its condition, mileage, title status, maintenance records, location, and modifications against local comparable listings. An asking price and a site’s estimated value are different kinds of figures; don’t treat them as interchangeable.

What should a buyer verify before choosing one?
- Confirm the powertrain: Check that the car is the 2007 SS with the 5.3L V8 rather than an earlier supercharged-V6 SS. Do not assume a listing’s “supercharged” wording is correct.
- Assess the specific car: Review service history, mileage, title status, condition, and any modifications before judging its value.
- Check wheels and tires: The listed stock SS specification is 18 x 7-inch wheels with P235/50WR18 tires. Confirm the tire placard and the actual wheel and tire setup on the car before buying replacements.
- Compare local examples: Use nearby listings with similar condition and equipment as a pricing reference, while recognizing that asking prices do not establish completed-sale values.
