The available coverage does not establish whether “2006” denotes the car’s model year, build year, or the announcement year.
What was the 2006 Carlsson CK55 RS?
It was Carlsson’s performance and equipment conversion of the Mercedes-Benz SL 55 AMG, using the SL’s 5.5-liter supercharged AMG V8. A similar name had already been used for a different conversion: a 2004 CK55 RS based on the Mercedes-Benz E 55 AMG. The two cars have different base vehicles and specifications, so figures or styling details for one should not be attributed to the other.
The 2006 SL coverage itself has a small naming wrinkle: one contemporary report calls the donor a “2007 SL55 AMG,” while the accompanying press material calls it the “new SL 55 AMG.” The sources identify the conversion clearly, but do not resolve what year the “2006” in the title represents. What power and performance did Carlsson claim?
The SL-based announcement reproduced by The Auto Channel lists 601 bhp (442 kW) and 810 Nm at 2,600 rpm. It claims 0–100 km/h in 4.2 seconds, 0–200 km/h in 13.06 seconds, and a maximum speed of more than 332 km/h. Carlsson’s material says the maximum speed was electronically limited in connection with 19-inch wheels. These are the company’s published claims; the available sources do not provide independent instrumented measurements.

A separate Carlsson press release published the previous day gives a CK55 figure of 560 PS and 810 Nm, and also claims 332 km/h. The material does not explain whether the difference reflects market, configuration, or another version distinction, so these figures should remain attached to their respective reports rather than being combined into one specification. How did Carlsson modify the SL 55 AMG?
The 2006 press material describes changes to the M113 5.5-liter supercharged V8. Carlsson said it altered the compressor transmission to increase compressor speed and boost, adapted the engine electronics, and fitted a customized exhaust intended to improve exhaust flow and reduce back pressure. The release also asserted that the tuned engine remained within emissions regulations and that component tolerances were not exceeded; those statements are manufacturer claims, not independent findings.

What suspension, wheels, and equipment were listed?
C-Tronic Suspension
Carlsson described its C-Tronic Suspension as electronically lowering the SL by approximately 30 mm and adjusting in response to road conditions. The company said that above 120 km/h the system maintains the maximum standard lower setting. The announcement does not provide independent ride or handling comparisons. It quoted the system as being offered exclusively for the SL 55 AMG starting in September 2006; that historical statement does not establish current availability.

The same announcement mentions front and rear aprons and interior upgrades but does not detail them in the cited material. The listed wheel and tire sizes are for the specified configuration, not a guarantee of fit on every SL 55 AMG or CK55 RS. For a particular car, confirm wheel offset, brake clearance, tire specifications, and vehicle configuration before buying or fitting wheels.
How does the SL-based car differ from the earlier E 55 AMG CK55 RS?
Auto55.be’s 2004 report describes an E 55 AMG-based CK55 RS, not the SL conversion discussed above. Its reported figures are 560 hp, 780 Nm, and a 320 km/h top speed. The units and claims below are reproduced as each source reports them; they should not be treated as directly harmonized measurements.

The earlier E 55 AMG figures come from Auto55.be’s 2004 report. Its output, torque, and speed claims belong to that separate conversion and should not be used as SL 55 AMG CK55 RS specifications.
