BMW’s rider’s manual lists 81 kW (about 110 hp) at 7,500 rpm and 115 Nm of torque at 6,000 rpm. It also provides model-specific reference figures for tire pressure, oil capacity and other service fluids; confirm the motorcycle’s market, equipment and VIN before using them, since delivered specifications can vary.
2006 BMW R 1200 ST specifications
The figures below are from BMW Motorrad’s R 1200 ST rider’s manual, edition dated December 2004. They are published specifications, not independent test measurements. The manual cautions that equipment may differ by national market and from the motorcycle described.

BMW’s manual gives constant-speed fuel-consumption figures of 3.7 L/100 km at 90 km/h and 5.1 L/100 km at 120 km/h. These are manual figures under stated constant-speed conditions, not a guarantee of real-world consumption.
Cold tire pressure
BMW specifies the following pressures with tires cold. The manual warns that incorrect pressure can impair handling, contribute to accidents and accelerate tire wear.

Check the motorcycle’s own pressure label and the tire maker’s guidance as part of servicing, particularly if the tires or wheels differ from the listed fitment. BMW also recommends metal valve caps with rubber seals for high road speeds.
Oil, fuel and other service-fluid references
These are figures and recommendations in BMW’s period manual, not a substitute for confirming the correct current products for a specific motorcycle. In particular, consult a BMW specialist before treating the manual’s dated oil classifications as a current universal purchasing specification.

BMW’s manual says to check engine-oil level every time the motorcycle is refueled. Follow the motorcycle’s own markings and service information when checking or topping up fluids; capacity figures alone do not tell you how much to add during a service.

Finding the owner’s manual, repair information and parts
BMW’s R 1200 ST rider’s manual is the primary reference for operation, specifications and the maintenance work it describes. BMW says its maintenance chapter covers certain wear-part replacement jobs that can be performed with minimal effort. For more extensive work, it recommends the repair manual for the particular motorcycle, obtainable through an authorized BMW motorcycle dealer.
For model-specific handbook or replacement-part searches, the MAX BMW R 1200 ST (K28) catalog includes literature, service-item, engine, brake and accessory diagrams. It lists USA production coverage from June 2003 through June 2007, which includes model year 2006. A diagram or listing does not establish present stock or guarantee fitment. Check the VIN, market, model code and installed options before ordering.

A genuine 2006 R 1200 ST handbook listing provides another route to model-specific literature. The listing shows variable availability, including handbook part numbers that are no longer available and others whose availability must be checked; confirm language, edition and fit before purchase.
BMW’s 2020 Original Accessories Catalogue identifies R 1200 ST model codes 0328 and 0338 in its India-market coverage. That establishes period accessory coverage, not present availability or fitment for every bike or market.

Evaluating a used R 1200 ST
The cited references do not establish a model-specific reliability statistic, defect rate or current used-market value. For a particular motorcycle, compare evidence rather than relying on an unsupported general reputation:
- Model year and market specification, verified against the VIN
- Service records and documented repairs
- Installed options and ABS or other electronic equipment
- Condition of the engine, clutch, gearbox, final drive, suspension, brakes, tires and electrical system
- Fit and condition of luggage and accessories
- Availability of parts for that market and configuration
BMW recommends regular maintenance, preferably by an authorized BMW motorcycle dealer. That is the manufacturer’s service recommendation; it does not establish that other qualified workshops are unsuitable.
