Mercedes-Benz’s 2024 Driving Assistance Package groups driver-support features, but its contents and whether it is standard or optional vary by model and market. The examples below use U.S. manufacturer information: the package listing for the 2024 CLE Coupe and operating details from the 2024 E-Class Sedan owner’s manual. Check the equipment list and manual for the exact vehicle before assuming it has every feature described here.
What the package is—and why the vehicle matters
The package is not a single system that drives the car. It is a collection of assistance functions intended to support a driver, each with its own sensors, operating conditions and limits. Mercedes-Benz says package availability and equipment differ among vehicles; a feature listed for one 2024 model should not be treated as standard across the lineup. The 13 functions below are explained using those U.S. sources. The CLE package list names the functions in items 1–7 and 10–13; Active Steering Assist is paired with DISTRONIC in the listing. Items 8–9 explain two distinct kinds of lane support described by Mercedes. The lineup-specific status of each function must be verified for the vehicle in question.
13 features explained
1. Active Distance Assist DISTRONIC
DISTRONIC is adaptive cruise control: the driver selects a speed and following distance, and the system can adjust speed when it detects a vehicle ahead. It can brake to a standstill in traffic. In the 2024 E-Class Sedan manual, the stated available speed range is 15–130 mph with the Driving Assistance Package and 15–100 mph without it. Those ranges apply to the manual’s E-Class context, not every Mercedes-Benz vehicle. Consult the 2024 E-Class Sedan Owner’s Manual for its operating details.

2. Active Steering Assist
When conditions allow, this function provides moderate steering support to help keep the vehicle near the center of its lane. It can use lane markings and vehicles ahead as references. It is steering assistance, not hands-off or autonomous driving; if the system cannot reliably detect the needed references, support may be reduced or unavailable.
3. Active Speed Limit Assist
Mercedes describes this feature as adjusting DISTRONIC settings to match detected posted speed limits. Its availability and exact behavior depend on model and configuration. It does not remove the driver’s responsibility to observe signs and choose an appropriate speed.
4. Traffic Sign Assist
Traffic Sign Assist works with speed-limit assistance by detecting and displaying traffic-sign information. Detection can depend on visibility and other conditions, so the displayed information should not be treated as a guarantee that every sign has been recognized.

5. Active Brake Assist with turning function
The CLE listing names Active Brake Assist with turning and cross-traffic functions. The turning function is part of a driver-support system; its name is not a promise that the car will prevent every collision. Follow the vehicle manual for the particular system’s warnings, responses and limits.
6. Active Brake Assist with cross-traffic function
The cross-traffic function is also named in the CLE’s Active Brake Assist equipment description. Its inclusion does not mean the system detects every approaching vehicle or intervenes in every situation. The model-specific manual explains when the assistance is available.
7. Automatic Lane Change Assist
The CLE package listing includes Automatic Lane Change Assist. Mercedes’ general feature overview describes automatic lane-change assistance as a highway feature whose availability varies by model. Do not assume the function is present, or that its operating conditions are identical, without checking the equipment for the specific vehicle.

8. Active Lane Change Assist
The CLE listing separately names Active Lane Change Assist. Because Mercedes lists it separately from Automatic Lane Change Assist, the two names should not be collapsed into one feature. The specific vehicle’s equipment information and owner’s manual are the right references for what each system does and when it can be used.
9. Active Lane Keeping Assist
Active Lane Keeping Assist is distinct from the lane-centering support of Active Steering Assist. Mercedes describes lane-keeping assistance as warning and intervening when an unintended departure is detected; steering assist provides moderate centering support when DISTRONIC is engaged. Their functions and availability are not interchangeable.
10. PRE-SAFE Impulse Side
PRE-SAFE Impulse Side appears in the 2024 CLE package listing. The listing establishes its inclusion for that model’s specified equipment, but does not by itself establish how the function operates in every vehicle or circumstance. Refer to the vehicle’s manual for its explanation and conditions.

11. DISTRONIC speed-and-distance control
Beyond setting a cruising speed, DISTRONIC is designed to maintain a selected following distance when it detects traffic ahead. The driver selects the desired settings and remains responsible for monitoring the road and responding when necessary.
12. Stop-and-go braking support
DISTRONIC can brake the vehicle down to a standstill in traffic, as described in the 2024 E-Class manual. The precise conditions and subsequent behavior are vehicle-specific; do not infer them from the package name alone.
13. Lane support depends on detection
Steering and lane-keeping functions rely on detected lane markings, vehicles or other system references. When detection is impaired or system conditions are not met, assistance may be limited or passive. The driver must keep control and follow the instructions and warnings shown in the vehicle.

How to verify a specific 2024 Mercedes-Benz
Before comparing two cars or relying on a package description, confirm these details for each vehicle:
- Exact vehicle: model, trim and market. The cited equipment sources are for U.S. vehicles.
- Equipment status: whether the package and each named function are standard, optional or absent on that configuration.
- Package contents: use the vehicle’s original equipment list or model-specific Mercedes-Benz materials rather than another model’s package description.
- Operating conditions: consult that vehicle’s owner’s manual for activation, speed ranges, warnings, limitations and driver responsibilities.
Mercedes-Benz’s general feature overview may describe current features, while package contents can be model- and year-specific. For a 2024 vehicle, use the matching model materials and owner’s manual rather than assuming a current overview reflects the original configuration.
