In the U.S. examples compared here, Tesla’s basic warranty is neither the longest nor the shortest: its 4-year/50,000-mile term is shorter than Hyundai’s and Kia’s 5-year/60,000-mile terms, but longer than the 2026 Ford Mustang Mach-E’s 3-year/36,000-mile bumper-to-bumper term. Battery coverage is a separate comparison: Kia advertises 10 years/100,000 miles for EV system and battery coverage, while Tesla’s terms vary by model and trim. These figures do not establish a universal “best” warranty.
How long is the Tesla warranty?
Tesla’s current U.S. warranty overview lists basic vehicle coverage for 4 years or 50,000 miles, whichever comes first. It lists supplemental restraint system (SRS) coverage separately at 5 years/60,000 miles. Battery and drive-unit coverage depends on the vehicle and configuration. Tesla cautions that its overview is for general knowledge and that the warranty supplied with the vehicle is authoritative. Tesla’s U.S. warranty overview and warranty document provide the applicable details.
How Tesla compares with Hyundai, Kia and Ford
These are manufacturer-published U.S. headline terms, not an independent ranking. Hyundai and Kia figures come from their current U.S. warranty pages; Ford’s figures are specific to the 2026 Mustang Mach-E. “Whichever comes first” applies to the year and mileage limits.
| Manufacturer and scope | Basic coverage | EV battery or system coverage |
|---|---|---|
| Tesla, current U.S. overview | 4 years/50,000 miles | Model 3 and Y: 8 years/100,000 miles for some groups and 8 years/120,000 miles for listed Premium/Performance groups, with at least 70% battery capacity retention. Model S, X and Cybertruck: 8 years/150,000 miles on the overview. |
| Hyundai, U.S. | 5 years/60,000 miles | 10 years/100,000 miles for hybrid/EV battery coverage. |
| Kia, U.S. | 5 years/60,000 miles | 10 years/100,000 miles for EV system and battery coverage; capacity loss below 70% is covered, with repairs or replacement restoring at least 70%. |
| Ford, 2026 Mustang Mach-E | 3 years/36,000 miles bumper to bumper | 8 years/100,000 miles for the battery, with at least 70% of original capacity over that period. |

What the battery warranty comparison tells you
Battery coverage should not be conflated with the basic vehicle warranty. In the listed Model 3/Y terms, Tesla specifies a minimum 70% retention threshold during the covered period. Kia describes coverage when capacity falls below 70% of original capacity and says repairs or replacement restore at least 70%. Ford’s 2026 Mach-E page also specifies at least 70% of original capacity. Those similar thresholds do not make the warranties identical: covered components, eligibility, remedies, and claim rules depend on each manufacturer’s governing terms.
Kia’s 10-year/100,000-mile headline battery and EV-system term is longer than Tesla’s listed Model 3/Y terms by duration and mileage. Tesla’s terms differ for Model S, X and Cybertruck, so the comparison cannot be reduced to one Tesla number. Hyundai also lists a 10-year/100,000-mile hybrid/EV battery warranty, but the headline page alone does not settle every EV component or second-owner limitation.

Does Tesla have the best warranty?
There is no single winner established by these figures. Tesla’s basic coverage exceeds the 2026 Mach-E example but falls short of Hyundai’s and Kia’s headline basic terms. Kia’s listed EV-system and battery period is longer than Tesla’s listed Model 3/Y periods, while Tesla’s S, X and Cybertruck terms have a different mileage limit. Longer duration alone says nothing conclusive about coverage breadth, claim approval, repair cost, reliability, or owner satisfaction.
A fair comparison checks the complete contract, not just years and miles:

How to verify coverage for a specific vehicle
- Identify the vehicle’s model year, exact model and trim, country, and delivery or in-service date.
- Open the warranty document that applies to that vehicle. Tesla says the warranty provided with the vehicle is authoritative; Hyundai and Kia direct owners to their handbooks, and Ford’s cited coverage is specific to the 2026 Mustang Mach-E.
- Check the relevant basic, battery, drive-unit or EV-system sections for time and mileage limits, component definitions, capacity thresholds, exclusions, owner eligibility, transfer rules, and remedies.
- For a claim or purchase decision, confirm the terms against the vehicle’s actual booklet and warranty status rather than relying on a general overview.
