The tale may explain why the road has an eerie reputation, but the account presents it as folklore—not as a verified crash or proven haunting.
Where is 13 Curves near Syracuse?
A 2013 account from local photography studio Solas Studios identifies “13 Curves” as Cedarvale Road. The available source does not establish exact route details, current public access, or whether the nickname’s number reflects a surveyed count of bends. It also does not document road conditions or hazards, so the name alone is not a reliable guide to what driving there is like.
What is the Lady in White story?
The Cedarvale Road legend is told as a phantom-bride tale. In its familiar version, a newly married couple crashes while traveling along the road. The bride is then said to return as a ghost, searching for her lost love. The apparition is also called the “Lady in White,” “Phantom Bride,” or “Bloody Bride.”
Solas Studios describes a tradition of looking for the apparition at midnight on Halloween. That is a report of local folklore, not confirmation of a sighting. The account does not name a storyteller or provide independent evidence for the supernatural claims.

What is documented—and what remains folklore?
| Claim | What the available source establishes |
|---|---|
| 13 Curves is Cedarvale Road | A local studio account published October 31, 2013 identifies it that way. |
| A couple crashed and the bride returned | This is the legend’s story; the account supplies no accident record to verify the crash. |
| A ghost has been seen there | The account describes a Halloween-midnight sighting tradition, but offers no independent evidence that a haunting or sighting occurred. |
| The road has exactly 13 curves | Not established as a surveyed road measurement. |
The distinction matters: a story can be part of a place’s reputation without establishing its historical origin. The available account records the legend, but does not substantiate the supposed accident or apparition.
Why does the road have a creepy reputation?
The phantom bride gives the road a vivid ghost story, especially around Halloween. But the sources available here do not verify roadway geometry, driving hazards, or current access, so they cannot establish that the road itself is unusually frightening or dangerous to drive. The eerie reputation is best understood as folklore attached to Cedarvale Road, rather than as evidence about its safety or history.
