A 2024 recall covers 129,313 potentially involved 2023–2024 Ram 1500 pickups because the turn signal may stay on after a turn. The filing estimates that 5% of the listed vehicles have the defect; the total is not a count of confirmed faulty trucks. What is the Ram 1500 recall about?
Chrysler (FCA US, LLC) filed NHTSA recall 24V-729 on October 1, 2024. In some affected trucks, parts inside the steering column control module (SCCM) may interfere with one another, preventing the turn-signal lever from reliably canceling the signal after the steering wheel turns. The affected population is 2023–2024 Ram 1500 pickups produced during the suspect period of March 24 through December 27, 2023. The manufacturer used production and supplier records to identify that population. Its filing lists 129,313 potentially involved vehicles and estimates a 5% defect rate; neither figure confirms that a particular truck has the problem. Chrysler recall report
Why is a turn signal that stays on a safety and compliance issue?
FMVSS 108, the federal motor vehicle safety standard for lamps and reflective devices, requires a turn-signal operating unit to cancel with steering-wheel rotation and to be manually cancelable. The recall filing cites section 571.108 S9.1.1. The reported failure can leave a signal on after a completed turn, which may mislead nearby drivers about the Ram driver’s intended direction.

NHTSA warns that a malfunctioning signal may fail to indicate an intended direction change, increasing crash risk. The recall identifies a failure to meet the standard; it does not establish that every potentially involved owner has broken a traffic law or that every truck in the listed population has a confirmed defect. How to check whether your Ram 1500 is included
- Open NHTSA’s recall lookup.
- Search using your vehicle identification number (VIN) or license plate, following the lookup’s prompts.
- Review the results for an open recall. The model years and population count alone cannot establish the status of your individual truck.
- If recall 24V-729 is open, contact a Ram or manufacturer dealership to arrange the remedy. Ask the dealer to confirm whether the repair has already been completed if your records are unclear.
What is the recall repair?
Dealers will inspect the steering column control module and replace it if necessary, free of charge. NHTSA’s October 3, 2024 acknowledgement describes that remedy.
