There are used electric SUVs with relatively accessible published price estimates, but the available evidence does not establish ten models as “notoriously reliable.” Treat this as a value shortlist, not a reliability ranking: used-EV reliability depends on model year and the condition of the individual vehicle. The figures below are dated guide estimates and study averages, not live local offers.
What the reliability evidence can—and cannot—tell you
Consumer Reports says its reliability histories draw on subscriber surveys and include issues involving electric motors and EV charging. Its surfaced assessments for the 2025 Hyundai Kona Electric and 2025 Volkswagen ID.4 differ, a reminder that one model year’s results should not be applied automatically to another. The available evidence does not establish model-year-specific reliability rankings for all ten candidates below.
Consumer Reports Auto Test Center director Alex Knizek describes a useful used-EV buying target: “The sweet spot for a used EV is one that’s still under its battery warranty but that’s depreciated enough for significant savings compared to a new one.” Remaining warranty and depreciation can improve the value proposition, but neither proves that a particular vehicle is reliable or that its battery is healthy.
What the published price figures cover
The AP-distributed 2026 Edmunds guide gives approximate averages for specified model-year groups. Separately, iSeeCars compared asking prices for 1- to 5-year-old used vehicles in September 2025 and January 2026. These are different sources and measures; neither is a quote for a specific vehicle, seller, or location.

iSeeCars used-EV asking-price comparison
iSeeCars analyzed asking prices for more than 1.7 million 1- to 5-year-old used cars and more than 4 million new cars sold in September 2025 and January 2026. Its averages describe those periods and selection rules, not today’s listings or a forecast for an individual vehicle.
| Model | September 2025 average asking price | January 2026 average asking price | Change |
|---|---|---|---|
| Hyundai Kona Electric | $21,020 | $19,678 | Down 6.4% |
| Volkswagen ID.4 | $23,307 | $21,860 | Down 6.2% |
| Kia Niro EV | $21,128 | $20,024 | Down 5.2% |
| Ford Mustang Mach-E | $30,575 | $29,014 | Down 5.1% |
| Tesla Model Y | $29,603 | $29,989 | Up 1.3% |
Across the study’s 1- to 5-year-old used EVs, the average rose from $29,637 in September 2025 to $30,666 in January 2026, an increase of 3.5%. Excluding Tesla and Porsche Taycan, the average for the other used EVs fell from $24,629 to $23,738, a decrease of 3.6%. The contrast shows why a broad used-EV price trend may not describe a specific model.
10 used electric SUVs to consider for value
The list is a set of candidates with price or practical-use evidence, not ten proven reliability winners. For the models with a dated iSeeCars comparison, consult the table above; the remaining guide averages are grouped in the AP/Edmunds table. Within every model, compare the exact year, trim, battery warranty and condition.

1. Chevrolet Bolt EV
The AP-distributed Edmunds guide places the Bolt EV and Bolt EUV together in its 2021–2023 average-price estimate. For the Bolt EV, the guide cites a new-vehicle EPA range estimate of up to 259 miles. That is an estimate when new, not a promise of the range a used example will deliver today. Edmunds says Bolt shoppers are best suited to home charging and cautions that public charging can be slow.

The Bolt EUV shares the guide’s combined average with the Bolt EV; the supplied estimate does not give it a separate price. Its cited new-vehicle EPA range estimate is up to 247 miles. As with the Bolt EV, weigh the lower-cost appeal against the guide’s warning about slow public charging, particularly if you cannot charge at home.
3. Hyundai Kona Electric
The guide identifies 2022–2023 Kona Electric models as a value focus and notes that the vehicle was redesigned for 2024. Do not assume the same equipment, driving experience, or reliability assessment across that change. The iSeeCars asking-price comparison also shows a decline between its two study periods, but those averages are not current offers.

- Miniature Collectible: Authentic 1:64 scale die-cast model of the Tesla Model Y, a compact electric SUV.

- Vibrant Color: Striking blue finish that captures the eye and adds a touch of vibrancy.
- Compact Size: Measuring approximately 3 inches long, perfect for display or playtime.
4. Volkswagen ID.4
The iSeeCars comparison records lower average asking prices between September 2025 and January 2026. Consumer Reports’ surfaced reliability material for the 2025 ID.4 differs from its 2025 Kona Electric assessment; that is a reason to check the specific year you are shopping for, not a reliability verdict on every ID.4.
5. Kia Niro EV
The Niro EV’s average asking price declined in the iSeeCars comparison. Use that as a dated market reference only, then assess the vehicle’s battery condition, remaining warranty, range for its configuration, and charging needs individually.

The iSeeCars study found a lower average asking price for the Mach-E in January 2026 than in September 2025. The figure covers the study’s eligible 1- to 5-year-old vehicles; it does not establish what a particular year, trim, mileage, or condition should cost.

7. Tesla Model Y
Unlike the four other models in the iSeeCars comparison, the Model Y’s average asking price rose between the two study periods. It may still belong on a shopping list, but the cited figures do not support calling it a bargain on price trend alone.
8. Hyundai Ioniq 5
The guide highlights comfort and quick charging, while warning that range varies by configuration. It lists a 220-mile EPA range estimate for the Standard Range version and up to 303 miles for a single-motor version. These are new-vehicle estimates; verify the used vehicle’s exact configuration and observed range rather than treating either number as universal.
9. Audi e-tron
The guide’s average price is for the e-tron and Q8 e-tron group, not a separate e-tron estimate. It cites a 226-mile EPA estimate for the 2023 e-tron. Compare that figure with your regular driving and charging access, and distinguish it from the later Q8 e-tron specification below.
10. Audi Q8 e-tron
The same grouped guide average applies here; no separate price estimate is stated for the Q8 e-tron. The guide cites a 285-mile EPA estimate for the 2024 model. Confirm year and configuration when comparing a listing, since the group average and the individual model’s range figure describe different things.

A low asking price is only useful if the vehicle’s condition, warranty and charging characteristics suit your needs. Ask the seller for the records and details below, then verify them against the exact vehicle rather than relying on a model name or a general price average.
Quick Recap
- Identify the exact vehicle. Get the model year, VIN, trim, battery and motor configuration, mileage, and service records. These details are needed to compare the right year and specifications.
- Check warranty coverage. Ask for the remaining battery warranty and confirm coverage for that VIN, including any time or mileage limits and the conditions that apply.
- Request battery-condition information. Ask for available battery-health records or a condition assessment. A range estimate from when the vehicle was new is not a battery-health report.
- Compare range and charging with your use. Check configuration-specific EPA range when new, then ask about observed range now. Confirm the vehicle’s DC fast-charging capability and whether public charging speed or access could be a problem on your routes.
- Confirm charging at home if that is part of the plan. Check the car’s connector and the home electrical setup before buying a Level 2 charger; compatibility is vehicle- and installation-specific. The Bolt models in particular are described by Edmunds as best suited to shoppers who can charge at home.
- Review practical fit and safety records. Check passenger and cargo space in person, obtain service and recall-completion records, and use the relevant official recall lookup to check for open recalls by VIN. A model-level article cannot establish the recall status or completed work for a specific listing.
How to choose between the candidates
- Prioritize purchase price? Compare like-for-like year, trim, mileage and condition, not a listing against a broad average. The guide and study figures cover different vehicle groups and time periods.
- Rely on public charging? Account for the Bolt guide’s slow-public-charging caveat. For every candidate, verify its specific fast-charging capability and plan around your routes.
- Need a longer trip range? Compare the exact configuration’s EPA estimate with realistic current range and the locations where you can charge. A new-vehicle figure cannot establish a used vehicle’s present range.
- Want confidence in reliability? Look for evidence tied to the exact model year, inspect the individual vehicle’s records and condition, and avoid treating a model’s reputation or a low price as proof.
