The 2024 Kawasaki Z900 makes a compelling case with a combination that is becoming harder to find: a large, distinctive inline-four engine, everyday-friendly dimensions, useful electronic aids, and a price below many premium naked bikes. The standard Z900 ABS is the value-oriented choice. The Z900 SE ABS costs more, but its premium is directed at hardware that matters to enthusiastic street riders—Brembo front brakes, a more adjustable fork, stainless-steel brake lines, and an Öhlins rear shock.
Neither version is the latest-generation Z900, and neither should be confused with the redesigned 2025 model. But judged as a 2024 motorcycle, the Z900 remains attractive because it emphasizes the engine and chassis fundamentals rather than chasing every newer electronic feature.
1. The 948cc inline-four engine gives the Z900 a distinctive identity
Both the Z900 ABS and Z900 SE ABS use Kawasaki’s liquid-cooled, 948cc, four-cylinder, DOHC, 16-valve engine. That configuration is one of the motorcycle’s biggest selling points. Middleweight naked-bike buyers have plenty of parallel twins and triples to choose from, but a four-cylinder engine offers a different character and a broader sense of occasion.
Kawasaki lists 73.1 lb-ft of peak torque at 7,700 rpm. The figure is substantial for a street-focused naked bike, but the more important point is that the Z900’s engine is not simply a downsized superbike motor wrapped in an upright chassis. Its specifications and equipment support a practical roadster role while retaining the smooth, recognizable appeal of an inline four.

- All-in-one package to clean and maintain your chain
- Includes chain clean, chain lube road, chain brush, motul gloves and decal
- C1 Chain Clean is perfect for removing residue, sand, dirt, and oil.
- C2 Chain Lube Road is a product of MOTUL's racing history, protecting your chain while reducing drag.
- MOTUL gloves and chain brush help remove deposits without creating a mess.
The engine is shared by the standard ABS and SE, so choosing the more expensive model does not buy additional displacement or a different powerplant. It buys upgraded chassis and brake equipment.
2. It offers strong street performance without a full-liter-bike package
The Z900 combines its torque figure with fuel injection, 36mm Keihin throttle bodies, and a six-speed transmission. That gives it the ingredients for flexible road use without requiring the rider to treat every ride like a track session.
It would be inappropriate to attach unverified acceleration, horsepower, fuel-economy, or dyno claims to the 2024 model. Still, the official specifications support a sensible conclusion: the Z900 has a strong, usable engine for commuting, back-road riding, and highway travel, while avoiding the size and intensity associated with larger superbike-based machines.
This is one of the clearest reasons to choose the Kawasaki over a smaller twin. The Z900 offers a substantial four-cylinder experience without moving into the weight, cost, and equipment expectations of a flagship liter-class sport bike.
3. Power modes and traction control add useful adjustability
The 2024 Z900 includes two power modes and Kawasaki TRaction Control. These features allow the rider to alter throttle response and traction-control intervention for different conditions or preferences.
That does not make the motorcycle an IMU-equipped cornering-electronics platform. The 2024 U.S. specifications do not list lean-sensitive cornering ABS or an IMU-enhanced control system. The value here is simpler and more practical: the rider has selectable electronic assistance rather than one fixed throttle and traction-control setting.

- - All-in-one package to clean and maintain your chain
- - Includes Chain Clean, Chain Lube Off-Road, Chain Brush, Motul gloves and decal
- - Chain Clean is perfect for removing residue, sand, dirt, and oil.
- - Chain Lube Off-Road is formulated to coat and protect against dirt and mud.
- - Motul gloves and chain brush help remove deposits without creating a mess.
For a newer or returning rider, a less aggressive power setting can make the motorcycle easier to manage. An experienced rider may prefer the sharper setting and a different traction-control level when conditions are dry and predictable. These controls are useful additions, but they should not be described as equivalent to the systems on Kawasaki’s redesigned 2025 Z900.
4. The 31.5-inch seat height is approachable for a full-size naked bike
Kawasaki lists a 31.5-inch seat height for both the Z900 ABS and Z900 SE ABS. That is a useful middle ground: the bike has the physical presence and engine capacity many riders want, without the taller seat commonly associated with adventure motorcycles.
Seat height is only one part of perceived accessibility. Rider inseam, seat width, suspension sag, footwear, and personal comfort all matter, so the specification does not guarantee that every rider will flat-foot the motorcycle. Nevertheless, the listed height makes the Z900 easier to consider for riders who want a substantial four-cylinder machine but are concerned about managing a tall chassis at stops.
5. A 4.5-gallon tank supports its everyday-roadster mission
Both versions use a 4.5-gallon fuel tank, a six-speed gearbox, and a sealed chain final drive. Kawasaki does not provide a verified real-world range in the supplied specifications, so range should not be promised. The capacity is still a practical feature for a motorcycle intended to handle commuting, weekend rides, and longer road trips.
The sealed chain is conventional motorcycle equipment, not a maintenance-free system. It still needs inspection, cleaning, lubrication, and adjustment according to the owner’s manual and riding conditions. Owners looking for basic supplies can consider a motorcycle chain cleaning kit and motorcycle chain lubricant; choose products explicitly suitable for motorcycle sealed or O-ring chains and follow the product and Kawasaki instructions.
6. Its dimensions feel substantial without being unusually long or tall
The 2024 Z900 ABS measures 81.5 inches overall, with a 57.3-inch wheelbase, 32.5-inch width, and 5.7 inches of ground clearance. The SE retains the same principal dimensions. These numbers describe a full-size street motorcycle, but not an especially long or adventure-bike-like one.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesThe listed 50-state curb weights are 467.5 pounds for the standard ABS and 469.7 pounds for the SE. The small difference is a useful reminder that the SE’s upgraded components do not transform the motorcycle into a fundamentally different chassis. It remains the same broad Z900 package, with additional premium equipment concentrated in the front brakes and rear suspension.

- Easy to use: Just spray the chain cleaner on, let it work, then wipe off the buildup and follow with motorcycle chain lube, no additional tools or effort needed
7. The SE provides a genuine hardware upgrade, not just different graphics
The Z900 SE ABS earns its higher price with meaningful component changes. Kawasaki specifies dual semi-floating 300mm front discs and radial-mount Brembo M4.32 monobloc four-piston calipers. The SE also receives stainless-steel brake lines.
Those parts are relevant to riders who care about braking feel, repeated hard use, and the ability to fine-tune the motorcycle’s response. They are not merely cosmetic additions. The standard Z900’s front brake arrangement is already a dual-disc, four-piston setup, but the SE’s Brembo hardware is the more enthusiast-oriented package.
That distinction matters when comparing prices. The SE premium is buying braking and suspension capability, not a stronger engine, a taller specification sheet, or a different seat height.
The Tool Desk
Outbyte PC Repair FREERepair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Outbyte Driver Updater FREEScan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →8. Both models have adjustable suspension, while the SE offers more range
The standard Z900 ABS is not equipped with completely basic suspension. It uses a 41mm inverted fork with rebound-damping adjustability and a horizontal back-link rear suspension with stepless rebound damping and adjustable spring preload.
The SE goes further. Its fork offers broader adjustment capability, and its rear suspension is an Öhlins S46 gas-charged shock with adjustable rebound damping and remote-adjustable spring preload. Remote preload adjustment is particularly useful when the rider regularly changes between solo riding, luggage, or a passenger, although the correct setup still depends on the owner’s load and suspension settings.
The fair conclusion is not that the standard model has no suspension adjustability. Both versions allow setup changes. The SE offers higher-grade components and a wider adjustment envelope, making it the more logical choice for aggressive street riders, heavier riders, or owners who expect to spend time refining chassis behavior.

9. TFT instrumentation and Rideology connectivity bring modern convenience
Both 2024 models include a TFT instrument display and Rideology the App smartphone connectivity. That gives the Z900 a more contemporary interface than a motorcycle limited to traditional analog gauges.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
The supplied 2024 U.S. specifications establish the presence of TFT instrumentation and connectivity, but they do not establish every possible app function. Buyers should verify the current app’s supported features rather than assuming the motorcycle includes built-in navigation, voice commands, or other capabilities associated with newer vehicles.
One useful ownership detail is that charging capability should not be confused with smartphone connectivity. Owners who want a model-compatible charging solution can investigate the Kawasaki Z900 ABS USB Socket Kit, which is an accessory rather than standard equipment. Confirm availability, installation requirements, and fitment for the specific motorcycle before ordering.
10. The original U.S. MSRP was competitive with the equipment
Kawasaki’s 2024 U.S. specification sheets list the standard Z900 ABS at $9,899 to $10,199, depending on market and color configuration, and the Z900 SE ABS at $11,399. Those are historical model-year MSRPs, not promises about current dealer pricing, remaining new inventory, or used-market values.
The standard model’s pricing made a 948cc inline-four naked bike relatively accessible compared with more premium alternatives. The SE asked for a meaningful additional investment, but its price difference was tied to Brembo front brakes, stainless-steel lines, a more adjustable fork, and an Öhlins rear shock. For the right rider, that is a more defensible premium than paying primarily for appearance.

What the 2024 Z900 does not have
The 2024 Z900 should not be marketed as if it includes the electronic package introduced with the redesigned 2025 model. Kawasaki’s October 31, 2024 announcement for the newer Z900 identified additions including Kawasaki Cornering Management Function, an IMU-supported control system, and Kawasaki Quick Shifter.
The 2024 U.S. ABS and SE specification sheets list ABS, traction control, two power modes, TFT instrumentation, and Rideology connectivity, but do not list an IMU-based cornering system, cruise control, or a quickshifter. That is not necessarily a flaw; it is a buying distinction. Someone prioritizing a simpler, engine-focused motorcycle may prefer the 2024 model, while someone seeking the newest electronics should compare it with the 2025 redesign instead.
Ownership checks before buying a 2024 Z900
- Confirm the exact version: Verify whether the motorcycle is the standard ABS or SE ABS. The SE’s value depends heavily on whether you want its upgraded brakes and suspension.
- Check the VIN: Recall status is vehicle-specific and can change. Search the individual VIN through NHTSA and Kawasaki’s owner-center recall tools before purchase.
- Inspect the chain: Look for correct slack, damaged links, abnormal rust, and sprocket wear. A sealed chain still requires regular care.
- Verify tires and wheels: The listed tire sizes are 120/70 ZR17 front and 180/55 ZR17 rear. Check age, tread, damage, and whether replacements match the motorcycle’s required specifications.
- Do not confuse MSRP with market price: The figures above are 2024 U.S. MSRPs. Dealer fees, incentives, location, remaining inventory, mileage, condition, and title history affect an actual transaction.
- Read the correct manual: Use the owner’s manual for service intervals, chain specifications, fluid requirements, adjustment procedures, and warning-light meanings rather than relying on generic online advice.
The supplied recall search identified a 2024 Z900RS-family front-tire recall covering ZR900C, ZR900E, and ZR900N models, not the regular Z900 ABS/SE models discussed here. That distinction does not replace a VIN check: recall records and individual vehicle status should always be verified directly.

Frequently Asked Questions
Does the 2024 Kawasaki Z900 SE have a different engine from the standard Z900 ABS?
No. Both use the same 948cc liquid-cooled inline-four engine and share the listed 73.1 lb-ft torque figure at 7,700 rpm. The SE’s premium is primarily for its Brembo front brakes, stainless-steel brake lines, upgraded fork adjustment, and Öhlins rear shock.
Does the 2024 Z900 have cornering ABS or an IMU?
The supplied 2024 U.S. specifications do not list an IMU-enhanced cornering ABS system. Those features, along with Kawasaki Cornering Management Function and Kawasaki Quick Shifter, were identified with the redesigned 2025 Z900 and should not be attributed to the 2024 model.
What is the seat height of the 2024 Z900 ABS and SE?
Both versions list a 31.5-inch seat height. That can be approachable for a full-size naked bike, but actual reach depends on the rider’s inseam, footwear, seat shape, and suspension setup.
What are the 2024 U.S. MSRPs?
Kawasaki’s 2024 U.S. specification sheets list $9,899 to $10,199 for the Z900 ABS depending on market and color configuration, and $11,399 for the Z900 SE ABS. These are historical MSRPs, not current dealer or used-market prices.

The Bottom Line
The 2024 Kawasaki Z900 ABS is appealing because it gets the fundamentals right: a distinctive 948cc inline-four, strong claimed torque, usable dimensions, a 31.5-inch seat, a 4.5-gallon tank, and useful but not overcomplicated electronics. The SE is the enthusiast version, adding Brembo brakes and Öhlins suspension where the difference can matter on the road. Buy the standard model for value and the SE for its hardware—not because either has the newer 2025 model’s cornering-management system or quickshifter.
