“Six-cylinder Dodge Charger” can mean two different cars: the outgoing Charger’s 3.6L Pentastar V6, offered through the 2023 model year, or the newer gas Charger’s 3.0L twin-turbo Hurricane SIXPACK inline-six. They differ in engine layout, output and generation, so check the model year and engine before comparing specifications or maintenance needs.
1. “Six-cylinder” does not identify one Charger engine
The 2023 Charger’s SXT and GT used a 3.6L Pentastar V6. The newer gasoline Charger SIXPACK uses a 3.0L twin-turbo inline-six. A V6 has cylinders arranged in two banks; an inline-six places them in one row. Both have six cylinders, but they are different engines in different Charger generations.
The figures below for the Pentastar are specifically for 2023. They should not be applied automatically to earlier model years. SIXPACK figures describe the newer engine and are not a trim-level comparison with the older V6.
2. The 2023 Pentastar’s power depends on configuration
Stellantis Fleet’s 2023 Charger brochure, published in 2022, lists these outputs for the 3.6L Pentastar:
#1 Best Overall
- Crafted from durable materials such as 100% die - cast metal and premium rubber tires
- Our high - end casting method allows for feature rich details, such as an opening hood, doors , detailed interior, and trunk
- Scale is 1:24

- Ages 8+
| 2023 configuration | Horsepower | Torque |
|---|---|---|
| SXT | 292 hp | 260 lb-ft |
| GT, SXT AWD and GT AWD configurations | 300 hp | 264 lb-ft |
Those are manufacturer-published specifications, not independent performance-test results. When asking “How much horsepower does a 3.6 Charger have?”, include the model year and trim or drivetrain rather than quoting a single number.
3. Is a V6 Charger fast?
“Fast” depends on the comparison: the available official material here establishes the 2023 V6’s horsepower and torque, but not an independent acceleration time. Those outputs help describe the engine, but they do not by themselves establish how quickly a particular car accelerates. Tire condition, vehicle condition and drivetrain can also matter to an individual car’s performance.

4. The 2023 fuel-economy figures differ between RWD and AWD
Stellantis Fleet’s 2023 brochure (published in 2022) lists the following figures for Charger models with the 3.6L engine:
| 2023 configuration | City | Highway |
|---|---|---|
| SXT/GT RWD | 19 mpg | 30 mpg |
| SXT/GT AWD | 18 mpg | 27 mpg |
These are brochure figures for the specified configurations, not a promise of real-world fuel use. Driving conditions and individual results can differ. Keep RWD and AWD separate when comparing listings or estimating fuel costs.

5. The 2023 3.6L manual calls for regular gasoline
For the 3.6L engine, the 2023 Charger owner’s manual specifies 87-octane regular gasoline. It says, “The use of higher octane premium gasoline will not provide any benefit over regular gasoline in these engines.” That guidance is tied to the 2023 manual and its 3.6L engine section; check the manual for the year and engine you own.
6. The 2023 oil specification is specific
For the 2023 3.6L Charger, the owner’s manual recommends full synthetic SAE 5W-20 meeting MS-6395. It gives an oil capacity of 6 qt (5.6 L) with filter and directs owners to change the oil and filter at the interval shown by the oil-change indicator. These details are not a substitute for checking the correct manual for another model year or engine.

7. The newer SIXPACK is a turbocharged inline-six
Dodge’s current Charger SIXPACK product page lists two outputs for its 3.0L twin-turbo inline-six:
| SIXPACK version | Horsepower | Torque |
|---|---|---|
| Standard-Output | 420 hp | 468 lb-ft |
| High-Output | 550 hp | 531 lb-ft |
These are Dodge’s current product-page specifications, accessed October 4, 2026. They describe SIXPACK versions, not the outgoing 3.6L V6. The newer Charger range also includes all-electric Daytona models; not every new Charger is a six-cylinder gasoline car.

- Separate reverse side scoops.

8. SIXPACK drivetrain context is different from older brochure comparisons
Stellantis says the newer generation spans electric Daytona models and Hurricane SIXPACK combustion models. Its 2026 press article describes SIXPACK models as having AWD with rear-drive functionality. That is distinct from treating the older 2023 V6’s RWD and AWD brochure figures as though they applied to the new generation.
9. A used Charger’s reliability cannot be settled by engine specs alone
The official specifications and maintenance material cited here do not establish a comparative reliability rate for V6 and HEMI Chargers, or a model-wide failure probability for the 3.6L. For a used car, review the specific vehicle’s service records and condition rather than treating factory power figures or maintenance instructions as proof of reliability.
10. Verify year and configuration before buying parts
Charger parts fitment can vary by model year and configuration. Mopar’s official catalog is organized by year; use the correct year and verify the vehicle details, including the VIN where appropriate, before ordering parts or accessories.
How to compare two six-cylinder Chargers fairly
When comparing listings, record the model year, engine family and layout, trim, drivetrain and the source and date of any quoted figures. A 2023 Pentastar V6 and a newer SIXPACK inline-six are different-generation engine comparisons—not simply two trims of the same powertrain. For a used vehicle, assess maintenance history and condition separately from published specifications.
