The 2026 Lexus NX 450h+ is the NX’s all-wheel-drive plug-in hybrid: it pairs a gasoline engine with an electric drive system, so you can charge it for electric driving without giving up the ability to refuel and keep going. Lexus estimates up to 37 miles of electric range, but whether the plug-in makes sense for you depends on your daily trips and access to charging.
1. The NX 450h+ is the NX plug-in hybrid
Lexus calls its plug-in model the NX 450h+. It combines a 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine with Lexus Plug-in Hybrid Electric Drive and all-wheel drive. Unlike a battery-electric vehicle, it retains a gasoline engine; unlike the NX 350h, it can be plugged in to charge its battery for electric driving. Lexus describes the system in its 2025 NX brochure.
2. Its headline specifications are estimates, not promises
For the 2026 NX 450h+, Lexus lists 304 net combined horsepower, 84 combined MPGe, and a manufacturer-estimated 37-mile all-electric driving range. These are Lexus figures, not results from an independent road test. Lexus cautions that actual electric range varies with vehicle and battery condition and how and where the vehicle is driven. Treat 37 miles as a planning estimate, then consider your own routes, weather, speeds, and charging routine rather than assuming every trip will fit within that figure. See the 2026 Lexus NX 450h+ model page.
3. Charging time depends on the outlet and onboard charger
Lexus Support estimates that charging a fully depleted battery takes approximately 12 hours from a 120-volt outlet, or about 2½ hours with Level 2 charging from a 240-volt outlet when the vehicle is equipped with a 6.6-kW onboard charger. Those are the configurations stated in the Lexus charging FAQ.

A separate Lexus USA Newsroom release for the 2025 NX says approximately three hours under ideal 240-volt conditions with a 7-kW onboard charger. That 2025 estimate uses a different charger configuration and should not be blended with the FAQ’s 6.6-kW estimate into one universal charge time. See the 2025 Lexus NX release.
4. A regular household outlet is an option
Lexus says the NX 450h+ can use a standard 120-volt household outlet and includes a Level 1 charging cable about 7.5 meters (24 feet) long. This can avoid installing a dedicated 240-volt charger, but the FAQ’s approximate 12-hour estimate means a depleted battery takes much longer to recharge this way. Whether that is convenient depends on how long the vehicle is parked between drives.

5. It still requires gasoline
The NX 450h+ can run on electric power alone in some conditions, but Lexus says gasoline is always required for proper operation and owners should never drive it without gasoline in the tank. It does not have to be plugged in to be used; Lexus says it is generally advantageous to keep the battery charged. In practice, plugging in lets you make use of the electric-driving capability, while the gasoline engine means you are not limited to the battery’s range.
6. It cannot use Level 3 DC fast chargers
The NX 450h+ cannot charge at Level 3 DC fast-charging stations. Its charging options described by Lexus are a 120-volt household outlet and 240-volt Level 2 charging. Do not assume that a public DC fast charger will work simply because it has a plug-in vehicle connector; check charging compatibility and operating instructions in the owner’s manual.

8. Compare it with the NX 350h by how you will use it
The 450h+ is the NX choice for buyers who can charge regularly and expect to use electric driving; the 350h is a conventional hybrid and does not offer the same plug-in electric-range capability. A useful comparison should include charging access, how often your routine trips fit the 450h+’s estimated electric range, grade equipment, and price—not just horsepower.
For model-year context, Lexus’s 2025 brochure lists 304 net combined horsepower and 37 miles of electric range for the 2025 450h+. Lexus’s 2025 newsroom release lists 240 net combined horsepower and 39 MPG combined for the 2025 NX 350h. These are 2025 figures, not 2026 specifications; they do not establish a 2026 350h comparison. See the 2025 NX brochure and the 2025 Lexus NX release. A cost or savings comparison also depends on local electricity and fuel prices, tax treatment, insurance, and your charging habits.

9. Home Level 2 charging is an option, not a requirement
If 120-volt charging does not fit your schedule, Lexus names ChargePoint Home Flex as an example of a 240-volt Level 2 charger. A home installation requires a suitable electrical setup; Lexus recommends having a certified installer assess the 240-volt installation and points to Treehouse for installation information. Equipment and installation are ownership choices, not a prerequisite for driving the NX 450h+. Lexus’s charging FAQ has the relevant charging guidance.
10. Decide whether the plug-in fits your routine
The most useful question is not whether the NX 450h+ can cover exactly 37 miles electrically, but whether you can charge often enough to use its plug-in capability on the trips you actually make. Before choosing a grade, consider:
Quick Recap
- Whether you can charge where the vehicle is parked, at home or elsewhere.
- How your typical daily driving compares with Lexus’s estimated range, allowing for real-world variation.
- Whether a 120-volt charge time works for your parking schedule or whether Level 2 charging is worth considering.
- Whether the plug-in’s price and equipment suit you better than a conventional hybrid such as the NX 350h.
