5. Match the VIN, window sticker and car
Use the VIN and original window sticker to reconcile the seller’s description with the Mustang in front of you. Check the listed trim, body style, transmission, options and performance equipment against the car itself. 6. Check the VIN for open recalls

If the VIN lookup shows a recall, ask for documentation that the repair was completed and verify the status with a Ford dealer if needed. Pay particular attention to any applicable fuel-system or instrument-panel campaign in the notices above. A recall notice is not evidence that the specific car is affected or that its repair remains outstanding; the VIN and repair record answer those questions.

8. Compare used prices with genuinely similar cars
