RepairPal’s 2026 SUV reliability pages list 10 models with annual repair-cost estimates below their respective size-class averages. The figures cover vehicles from model years 2010–2019, so they are useful for comparing historical repair costs—not quotes for maintaining every newer SUV. The models below are grouped by size, not ranked against one another.
Ten SUVs with lower estimates, grouped by size
RepairPal’s displayed 2026 category lists give annual repair-cost estimates for individual models and an average for each SUV class. Each model below is below its own class average. Because the class averages differ, this is not a standardized cross-class ranking.

What RepairPal’s annual figure means
RepairPal describes its Reliability Rating as “a measurement of vehicle dependability based on the cost, frequency, and severity of unscheduled repairs and maintenance.” Its annual cost figure is an average across model years, not a scheduled-service price list. RepairPal also says routine small shop visits such as oil changes are controlled for in its visit-frequency calculations. The displayed methodology covers 2010–2019 model years, even though the ratings pages are labeled 2026.

That distinction matters: these estimates can help compare repair-cost patterns in the covered vehicles, but they do not forecast the exact bill for a particular SUV, or establish what a new 2026 model will cost to maintain. The amount an owner pays depends on factors such as model year, mileage, condition, service history, powertrain, usage, and location.
How to apply the estimates when shopping
- Compare within the same size class. RepairPal’s averages are $466 for subcompact SUVs, $521 for compact SUVs, and $573 for midsize SUVs. A figure below one class average does not prove that model is cheaper to own than a vehicle in another class.
- Check the specific model year and powertrain. The page-level averages do not account for the condition and history of the vehicle you are considering. Do not assume every generation or engine has the same repair profile.
- Review records and inspect the vehicle. Look for documented maintenance and repairs, then arrange a pre-purchase inspection. A population-level estimate cannot identify deferred maintenance or damage on an individual used SUV.
- Keep repair estimates separate from total ownership cost. These figures are not a complete calculation of purchase price, fuel, insurance, depreciation, or scheduled maintenance.
Why brand-level maintenance totals are not a substitute
CarEdge presents accumulated five-year maintenance costs by brand, rather than annual repair estimates for individual SUV models. Its displayed figures include Toyota at $1,814, Honda at $2,185, Hyundai at $2,256, Kia at $2,335, and Mazda at $2,357. Those brand totals use a different measure and cannot be merged with RepairPal’s model-level annual estimates or used to rank these SUVs against one another. CarEdge maintenance-cost rankings.
