U.S. manufacturer-listed base prices for these 10 sport bikes range from $5,149 for the Suzuki GSX250R ABS to $19,699 for the Suzuki Hayabusa. That is a wide spread in price and purpose: the list includes lightweight road bikes, middleweight twins, track-oriented supersports and a hypersport machine. Prices below are manufacturer figures checked October 7, 2026—not out-the-door quotes or a ranking based on independent tests.

10 sport bikes and their U.S. listed prices

The table groups these choices by approximate price, not performance. MSRP generally excludes taxes, fees and other purchase costs; the precise exclusions vary by manufacturer and dealer. Model-year labels are included where the cited page or announcement specifies them.

Approximate price band Model Listed base MSRP What the manufacturer information establishes
Entry Suzuki GSX250R ABS $5,149 Suzuki lists it as a sportbike; ABS is included in the model name.
Entry 2026 Kawasaki Ninja 500 $5,399 Kawasaki describes a 451cc parallel twin, assist-and-slipper clutch and relaxed riding position.
Entry 2026 Yamaha YZF-R3 $5,499 Listed in Yamaha’s U.S. supersport lineup.
Lower middle 2026 Kawasaki Ninja 650 $7,599 Kawasaki describes a 649cc parallel twin and positions it for commuting and winding roads.
Middle Suzuki GSX-8R $9,199 Suzuki calls it a middleweight sportbike emphasizing real-world rideability and track-inspired performance.
Middle 2026 Yamaha YZF-R7 $9,399 Listed in Yamaha’s U.S. supersport lineup.
Upper middle 2026 Kawasaki Ninja ZX-4R ABS $9,299 Kawasaki describes a 399cc inline-four and track potential. Its listed price is below the GSX-8R and R7 despite the different category.
Upper middle 2026 Kawasaki Ninja ZX-6R $11,599 Listed price is for the non-ABS version; Kawasaki describes it as a 636cc supersport. ABS version is listed at $12,599.
Premium 2026 Yamaha YZF-R1 $19,199 Listed in Yamaha’s U.S. supersport lineup.
Premium Suzuki Hayabusa $19,699 Listed in Suzuki’s sportbike lineup; it is a hypersport choice rather than a direct equivalent to every faired sportbike above.

Prices and descriptions are from the manufacturers’ U.S. material: Kawasaki’s 2026 announcement, Yamaha’s supersport lineup and Suzuki’s sportbike lineup. Kawasaki’s announcement is for 2026 models; Yamaha’s page includes 2026 models and a 2027 YZF-R9; Suzuki’s current lineup page includes products across its catalog, so a model year is not assigned where the page does not state one.

Which kind of sport bike fits your budget and riding?

Entry-priced road bikes: GSX250R ABS, Ninja 500 and YZF-R3

These are the least expensive choices in this selection, but price alone does not determine whether a motorcycle is suitable for a new rider. Kawasaki describes the Ninja 500 as a 451cc twin with a relaxed riding position and an assist-and-slipper clutch. Those details may help a shopper understand its intended character, but they do not replace a fit check, skills assessment or time spent learning on a suitable bike.

HHH 250cc Street Bike GTX 250 EFI Motorcycle Fuel Injection Manual 6 Speed for Adult and Youth (Blue)
  • Entry-Level Sport Bike Design: The HHH Upgraded 250cc Motorcycle GTX 250 with EFI features a 6 speed manual transmission, hydraulic disc brakes (dual front), and 17-inch wheels with street tires
  • Altitude Adaptability with EFI: Electronic Fuel Injection automatically compensates for changes in altitude by sensing air temperature and density, eliminating the need to manually adjust carburetors jetting at different elevations
  • Enhanced Throttle Response: By delivering fuel directly into the combustion chamber in response to the rider's input, the EFI system eliminates throttle lag associated with carburetors, resulting in smoother and more instantaneous acceleration with dual front headlights and sporty styling
  • Zongshen Engine with EFI Technology: HHH GTX 250 is powered by a Zongshen-brand engine and uses electronic fuel injection for better performance and fuel economy with high power output
  • Easier Starting System: The EFI system optimizes fuel delivery for ambient conditions, ensuring reliable and easy engine starts, especially in cold weather, without the need for a manual choke

Middleweight road options: Ninja 650 and GSX-8R

The Ninja 650 is a 649cc parallel twin that Kawasaki positions for commuting and winding roads. Suzuki describes the GSX-8R as a middleweight sportbike focused on real-world rideability as well as track-inspired performance. These descriptions suggest different purchase considerations from a small-displacement entry model, but they do not establish a head-to-head performance or comfort result.

Supersport choices: YZF-R7, Ninja ZX-4R ABS and Ninja ZX-6R

These models illustrate why “sport bike” is not a single performance category. The ZX-4R’s 399cc inline-four and track potential differ from the parallel-twin Ninja road models. Kawasaki identifies the ZX-6R as a 636cc supersport. The R7 is listed in Yamaha’s supersport lineup. The ZX-4R ABS’s $9,299 listed MSRP is lower than the R7’s $9,399 and the GSX-8R’s $9,199 is also close, so a price band alone will not tell you which design or use case is right.

Premium choices: YZF-R1 and Hayabusa

The R1 appears in Yamaha’s supersport lineup, while Suzuki lists the Hayabusa as a sportbike and classifies it as a hypersport choice. They are premium-priced, but not direct substitutes for every smaller faired road bike in this guide. Suzuki advises that its GSX-R models and Hayabusa are engineered for experienced riders; that warning should not be generalized to every motorcycle listed here.

How much does a sport bike really cost?

MSRP is a starting point, not a final transaction price. Kawasaki says its base MSRP excludes destination, options, taxes, title and license, and dealer fees. Yamaha says its listed prices exclude tax, license, registration, destination and dealer-installed items, and that dealer prices may vary. Confirm the current exclusions and local offer with the dealer for the specific model.

Your total ownership budget may also include insurance, maintenance, gear, accessories and local registration costs. This price comparison does not establish comparable insurance premiums or maintenance expenses. Before choosing a bike, request an out-the-door quote and an insurance quote for your location and circumstances.

How to choose before you buy

  1. Set an out-the-door budget. Ask a local dealer for a written quote that identifies taxes, freight or destination, setup, documentation and other fees rather than budgeting from MSRP alone.
  2. Compare intended use, not just the price. Decide whether you expect mostly commuting, road rides, track use or another purpose. A lightweight road sportbike, middleweight faired bike, supersport and hypersport machine are not interchangeable categories.
  3. Check fit in person. Sit on the specific model and assess seat reach, riding position, controls and your ability to handle it. The manufacturer descriptions here do not provide comparative ergonomics data.
  4. Verify trim and equipment. Check the exact model year and version on the current manufacturer page. For example, the cited ZX-6R prices distinguish the $11,599 non-ABS model from the $12,599 ABS version.
  5. Check ownership details locally. Confirm dealer availability, service support and insurance cost before committing; none can be inferred from the listed MSRP.

Safety and training belong in the budget

Suzuki advises riders to wear a helmet, eye protection and protective clothing, and to take a riding skills course. Its safety guidance is available on the Suzuki Street page. Include properly fitting protective gear and training in your plans rather than treating the motorcycle’s purchase price as the whole cost of getting started.

Price snapshot and limitations

All figures above are U.S. manufacturer-listed prices checked on October 7, 2026. They are not dealer quotes, guarantees of local availability or results from comparative instrumented testing. Manufacturer lineups, specifications, model years and prices can change; confirm them with the linked source and a dealer before purchase. Yamaha’s lineup also lists a 2026 R1M at $27,899, illustrating that the premium end extends beyond the two premium models selected for this guide.
