There is no single smallest motorcycle. The Honda Navi has the smallest engine in this group at 109cc, the Honda Monkey has the shortest wheelbase at 45.0 inches, the Kawasaki Z125 Pro is the shortest overall among the strongest mainstream candidates at 66.9 inches, and the SSR Razkull 125 has the lowest listed seat at 29.5 inches.
For most buyers, however, the Honda Grom is the best all-around answer: it is compact, light, fuel-injected, equipped with a five-speed transmission, widely supported, and genuinely motorcycle-like. This list compares ten adult-oriented, street-legal motorcycles sold in—or represented by new or remaining inventory for—the 2024 U.S. model year. Prices are U.S. MSRP before destination, freight, setup, documentation, tax, title, registration, and dealer-installed options.
What counts as the smallest motorcycle?
Engine displacement is only one way to measure size. A small engine does not necessarily mean a short or lightweight motorcycle: the 109cc Honda Navi has a 50.6-inch wheelbase, while the 124cc Honda Monkey has a much shorter 45.0-inch wheelbase.
For this comparison, “smallest” combines five physical and practical measurements:
#1 Best Overall
- 2 Visors Included: Clear + Smoked and 1 Neck Scarf for Winter Use
- Streamlined Aerodynamic Design Reduces Wind Noise and Drag
- Advanced and Lightweight Durable ABS Shell
- Quick Release Clasp and Strap and Removable Inner Lining Pads
- Meets or Exceeds FMVSS-218 and DOT Safety Standards
- Engine displacement: useful for understanding performance and some state licensing rules, but not a physical-size measurement.
- Seat height: important for rider reach, although seat width and suspension sag can matter just as much.
- Wheelbase: a strong indicator of compactness and low-speed maneuverability.
- Overall length and width: relevant when storing, parking, or transporting the motorcycle.
- Curb or ready-to-ride weight: crucial when pushing the bike, backing it out of a garage, or recovering from a tip-over.
The ranking also considers street equipment, transmission type, price, practical utility, and the likelihood that a buyer can obtain parts and service. It is an editorial ranking, not a laboratory measurement or an absolute claim that the number-one motorcycle is smallest in every dimension.

Published specifications are not perfectly uniform: manufacturers may use “curb weight,” “ready-to-ride weight,” or different rounding conventions. The figures above should be used for comparison, not as a guarantee of the exact weight of a particular dealer unit.
1. Honda Grom
Best overall small motorcycle. The Honda Grom is the benchmark modern mini-moto because it combines genuinely compact dimensions with a conventional clutch-and-gear riding experience, extensive aftermarket support, and broad dealer familiarity.
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →- Engine: 124cc air-cooled, fuel-injected single-cylinder
- Transmission: five-speed manual
- Seat height: 30.0 inches
- Wheelbase: 47.2 inches
- Weight: 224 pounds for the standard model; the ABS model is listed at 227 pounds
- Fuel capacity: 1.6 gallons
- Wheels: 12 inches
- 2024 MSRP: $3,599 base, or $3,799 for the ABS version
- Honda-estimated fuel economy: 166.5 mpg, with actual results varying by rider, traffic, speed, and conditions
The Grom is easy to maneuver in tight city streets and light enough to move around a garage. Its five-speed gearbox makes it more useful for learning motorcycle controls than an automatic mini-moto, while its size keeps speeds and consequences relatively manageable for a new rider. Honda’s 2024 specification sheet provides the core dimensions, weight, equipment, and engine information.
The compromises are equally clear. It is not a sensible sustained-highway motorcycle, and its 12-inch wheels and limited suspension travel can make broken pavement uncomfortable. The standard Grom does not include ABS; buyers who want it must choose the more expensive ABS trim.
Specification note: Honda’s 2024 brochure uses contradictory liquid-cooled wording, while Honda’s dedicated specification sheet identifies the engine as air-cooled. The specification sheet and the Grom’s established mechanical design support describing the 2024 U.S. Grom as air-cooled.
2. Kawasaki Z125 Pro
Best sporty alternative to the Grom. The Kawasaki Z125 Pro is nearly the same type of motorcycle as the Grom, but it has a slightly shorter wheelbase and a different riding position and styling.

- Transmission: four-speed manual
- Seat height: 31.7 inches
- Wheelbase: 46.3 inches
- Overall length: 66.9 inches
- Weight: 224.8 pounds
- Fuel capacity: 2.0 gallons
- Wheels: 12 inches
- 2024 MSRP: $3,649–$3,849 depending on version and color
- ABS: no ABS version was listed in the 2024 U.S. specification
Its compact wheelbase and low weight make the Z125 Pro entertaining in town, and its 2.0-gallon tank is larger than the Grom’s. The main mechanical disadvantage is the four-speed gearbox, while the 31.7-inch seat is noticeably taller for a shorter rider. Kawasaki’s 2024 specification sheet contains the model’s published dimensions, weight, equipment, and pricing.
The lack of ABS is a meaningful disadvantage if you regularly ride in rain or want maximum braking assistance during an emergency. Tall riders should also sit on one before buying; a motorcycle can be physically short while still feeling cramped from the saddle.
3. Honda Monkey ABS
Smallest by wheelbase and most distinctive by design. The Honda Monkey has a 45.0-inch wheelbase, the shortest in this comparison, and a retro appearance that makes it more than a stripped-down commuter.
- Engine: 124cc air-cooled, fuel-injected single-cylinder
- Transmission: five-speed manual
- Wheelbase: 45.0 inches
- Seat height: 30.5 inches
- Weight: 231 pounds
- Fuel capacity: 1.5 gallons
- Wheels: 12 inches with wide tires
- Braking: front-wheel ABS
- 2024 MSRP: $4,299
The short wheelbase gives the Monkey excellent low-speed maneuverability and very approachable proportions. Fuel injection, a five-speed transmission, and standard front ABS make it a more complete motorcycle than its toy-like appearance suggests. See Honda’s 2024 Monkey ABS specifications for the published figures.
Recommended Free Tools
It is not as practical as the Grom for regular passenger use. The solo-style seat, short chassis, fat tires, and limited suspension are best suited to urban riding and recreational back-road use rather than rough trails or fast roads. Its $4,299 price is also high for a 125cc mini-moto, although its standard ABS and strong retro appeal help explain the premium.

4. Honda Navi
Cheapest automatic option and smallest engine. The Honda Navi uses a 109cc engine and a continuously variable automatic transmission. It looks more like a small motorcycle than a traditional scooter, but its controls and drivetrain are scooter-derived.
- Engine: 109cc air-cooled single-cylinder
- Transmission: automatic V-Matic/CVT belt drive
- Seat height: 30.0 inches
- Wheelbase: 50.6 inches
- Weight: 234 pounds
- Fuel capacity: 0.9 gallon
- Wheels: 12-inch front and 10-inch rear
- Braking: combined braking system with drum brakes; not ABS
- 2024 MSRP: $1,999 for the base color and $2,099 for other colors
The Navi is the easiest motorcycle-like machine here to operate: twist the throttle and go, with no clutch lever and no gear changes. It also has a built-in storage compartment, a useful feature that most mini-motos lack. Honda’s Navi specification sheet and 2024 brochure document its drivetrain, dimensions, storage, and equipment.
The price comes with compromises: the Navi is carbureted, uses drum brakes, has no ABS, and is best treated as a low-speed urban vehicle. Its 50.6-inch wheelbase is surprisingly long for such a small-looking machine. Include the Navi in a mini-motorcycle comparison, but label it accurately as a motorcycle-styled automatic rather than a conventional manual motorcycle.
5. SSR Razkull 125
Lowest listed seat and one of the lowest entry prices. The SSR Razkull 125 is a conventional four-speed mini-motorcycle with a 29.5-inch seat, making it the lowest-seat model in this group according to the manufacturer’s listing.
- Engine: 125cc air-cooled single-cylinder
- Transmission: four-speed manual
- Seat height: 29.5 inches
- Wheelbase: 47.7 inches
- Overall length: 69.7 inches
- Weight: 225 pounds claimed
- Wheels: 12 inches front and rear
- Brakes: front and rear discs listed; ABS is not listed
- Fuel system: carbureted
- Claimed output: 8.3 hp
- MSRP: $1,999 before destination and dealer charges
The Razkull is compelling on paper for a short rider or a buyer seeking the least expensive manual mini-moto. Its low seat and 225-pound claimed weight should make low-speed handling and parking approachable.
There is an important availability qualification: SSR’s official page categorizes the Razkull as a legacy model. Confirm that a dealer actually has a new 2024 example, leftover inventory, or a titleable unit before treating the $1,999 price as a current purchase option. The official Razkull listing is the source for the model’s published specifications.
Also investigate local dealer support, parts supply, warranty handling, and service distance. The low MSRP does not automatically make it cheaper to own than a better-supported Honda or Kawasaki.

6. CFMOTO Papio SS
Best compact sport model for standard ABS and a six-speed gearbox. The Papio SS brings sport-bike styling, fuel injection, and more transmission ratios to the mini-moto category.
- Engine: 126cc air-cooled, fuel-injected single-cylinder
- Transmission: six-speed manual
- Seat height: approximately 29.9–30.0 inches
- Wheelbase: 47.8 inches
- Weight: about 251 pounds
- Wheels: 12 inches
- Braking: standard ABS
- Claimed output: approximately 9.4 hp
- 2024 U.S. MSRP: $3,299
The Papio SS has one of the lowest seats in the group and includes ABS as standard equipment. Its six-speed transmission offers closer ratios and more involvement than the Navi or semi-automatic Hondas, although six gears cannot transform a 126cc engine into a highway powerplant.
At roughly 251 pounds, it is about 25–27 pounds heavier than the Grom and Z125 Pro despite similar external dimensions. CFMOTO’s Papio SS specifications and the contemporary U.S. model announcement support its equipment and model-year positioning. Check the local CFMOTO dealer network and parts lead times before purchasing.
7. CFMOTO Papio CL
Best for compact-bike buyers who prefer scrambler styling. The Papio CL uses the same compact basic platform as the SS but presents itself as a small scrambler-style motorcycle.
- Engine: 126cc air-cooled, fuel-injected single-cylinder
- Transmission: six-speed manual
- Seat height: approximately 30.0 inches
- Wheelbase: 47.8 inches
- Overall length: 68.9 inches in dealer specifications
- Weight: 251 pounds
- Wheels: 12 inches
- Braking: standard ABS
- 2024 U.S. MSRP: $3,299
The CL is a separate purchasable model, not simply an SS color variant. Its appearance and tires make it more inviting for gravel roads and mild exploration, but it should not be confused with a true dual-sport motorcycle. The same compact dimensions that help in a city also limit comfort and stability when pavement becomes rough or speeds rise.
The Papio CL dealer specification page provides the published dimensions, weight, ABS, and price, while Rider’s 2024 CFMOTO announcement confirms the U.S. model context. Verify how the ABS system is intended to be used on loose surfaces before taking the CL beyond pavement.

8. Benelli TNT135
Most displacement and strongest claimed output among the main gasoline mini-motos. The Benelli TNT135 stretches the mini-moto formula with a 134.7/135cc engine, a five-speed transmission, and a larger fuel tank than the Grom or Monkey.
- Engine: approximately 134.7–135cc single-cylinder
- Transmission: five-speed manual
- Seat height: 30.7 inches
- Wheelbase: approximately 47.8 inches
- Weight: about 255.7 pounds in the U.S. specification
- Fuel capacity: 1.9 gallons
- Wheels: 12 inches
- Claimed output: 11.3 hp and 7.4 lb-ft of torque in the U.S. specification
- 2024 U.S. MSRP: $3,199 for several colors and $3,269 for green
- ABS: not listed in the U.S. specifications
The TNT135’s extra displacement and fuel capacity make it attractive to riders who want a little more performance without moving to a full-size motorcycle. It is also the heaviest of the conventional sport-style mini-motos listed here, which reduces some of the Grom’s easy-to-manage character.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesCooling-system descriptions differ across Benelli’s documentation: the international Benelli product page describes the engine as air-cooled, the U.S. SSR listing calls it oil-cooled, and the 2024 U.S. announcement describes an air-cooled powerplant. For a U.S. buyer, use the U.S. specification page for the market-specific figures and ask the dealer to clarify the equipment on the exact motorcycle.
Benelli dealer coverage, parts availability, and resale support deserve local verification. A claimed 95 km/h top speed should not be interpreted as a promise of comfortable or safe U.S. highway travel.
9. Honda Super Cub C125 ABS
Best practical step-through. The Super Cub is larger in wheel diameter than the mini-motos, but it remains a small, light, highly maneuverable street motorcycle and is more practical for everyday riding than its retro appearance suggests.
- Engine: 124cc air-cooled, fuel-injected single-cylinder
- Transmission: four-speed semi-automatic; the rider foot-shifts but does not use a hand-operated clutch
- Seat height: 30.7 inches
- Wheelbase: 48.9 inches
- Weight: 238 pounds
- Fuel capacity: 1.0 gallon
- Wheels: 17 inches
- Braking: front-wheel ABS
- 2024 MSRP: $3,899
Its 17-inch wheels provide more stability and better road manners than the 10- and 12-inch wheels used by the smallest mini-motos. The step-through layout is convenient for errands, and semi-automatic shifting preserves some motorcycle involvement without requiring clutch coordination. Honda’s 2024 Super Cub specifications list the core measurements and equipment.
The trade-off is that it is not physically as tiny as a Grom or Monkey. It has a rear drum brake, modest suspension, and a 30.7-inch seat. The Super Cub owner’s manual also warns that motorcycles under 150cc may face highway operating restrictions depending on state law, so displacement and road access must be checked locally.
10. Honda Trail125 ABS
Best small utility motorcycle. The Trail125 is the largest and heaviest motorcycle in this top ten by several measures, but it earns a place because it remains compact, street-legal, and much more useful on rough roads and for carrying cargo.
- Engine: 124cc air-cooled, fuel-injected single-cylinder
- Transmission: four-speed semi-automatic
- Seat height: 31.5 inches
- Wheelbase: 49.4 inches
- Weight: 256 pounds
- Fuel capacity: 1.4 gallons
- Wheels: 17 inches
- Braking: front-wheel ABS
- Equipment: large rear cargo rack and increased utility for light-trail riding
- 2024 MSRP: $4,099
The 17-inch wheels, cargo rack, ground clearance, and suspension make the Trail125 more capable than the sport mini-motos on rough pavement, gravel, and mild trails. Its semi-automatic transmission is simple to operate, and the rack is genuinely useful for cargo.
It is not the best choice if the goal is the absolute smallest motorcycle or the lowest seat. Its 31.5-inch seat is the tallest in this comparison, and the 256-pound weight makes it less convenient to push around than a Grom. The 2024 Trail125 specifications and Honda’s 2024 brochure cover the motorcycle’s utility equipment and dimensions.

| Shortest overall length among the leading mainstream candidates | Kawasaki Z125 Pro | 66.9 inches |

| Lightest conventional gasoline model in this group | Honda Grom | 224 pounds, narrowly below the Z125 Pro and Razkull |
| Lowest advertised price | Honda Navi or SSR Razkull | $1,999 before additional charges |
These answers explain why online rankings often disagree. A motorcycle can win one measurement and lose another. The Navi has the smallest engine but not the shortest wheelbase. The Monkey has the shortest wheelbase but is not the lightest. The Trail125 has the same basic displacement as the Grom but is significantly larger because it is built around 17-inch wheels and utility equipment.
Best small motorcycle for different riders
Best overall: Honda Grom
Choose the Grom if you want one compact motorcycle that is easy to find, easy to resell, straightforward to learn on, and supported by a large parts and aftermarket ecosystem. Select the ABS version if that safety feature matters to you and the extra $200 fits the budget.
Cheapest: Honda Navi or SSR Razkull 125
The Honda Navi is the safer low-price recommendation for buyers who want automatic operation and unusually useful built-in storage. The Razkull costs the same on paper and has a manual gearbox and lower seat, but its legacy-model status and local support need to be confirmed before purchase.

Best for a short rider: SSR Razkull, with a sit-test qualification
The Razkull’s 29.5-inch listed seat is the lowest. The Papio models, Grom, and Navi are close behind at approximately 29.9–30.0 inches and may be easier to find or support. The Monkey’s 30.5-inch seat is also approachable because of its short wheelbase and compact proportions.

Do not choose solely by the seat-height number. Seat width, suspension sag, rider inseam, handlebar reach, center of gravity, and whether you can place one foot securely on the ground matter more. A rider does not need both feet flat at every stop; controlled one-foot support can be perfectly workable. Sit on the motorcycle wearing the footwear you will actually ride in, then test backing it up and turning the bars.
Best automatic: Honda Navi
The Navi has the simplest controls because its CVT eliminates clutch and gear changes. It is the right choice for a reader who values low-speed urban convenience more than traditional motorcycle technique. Remember that automatic operation does not automatically change its licensing, registration, insurance, or helmet requirements.
Best semi-automatic: Honda Super Cub C125 or Trail125
The Super Cub is the better compact commuter, while the Trail125 is better for cargo and rougher surfaces. Both require foot shifting but no hand-operated clutch, making them a middle ground between the Navi and a full manual motorcycle.
Best with standard ABS: CFMOTO Papio, Honda Monkey, Super Cub, or Trail125
The CFMOTO Papio SS and CL list standard ABS. The Honda Monkey, Super Cub, and Trail125 provide front-wheel ABS. The Grom offers ABS only as a separate trim. The Kawasaki Z125 Pro, Navi, Razkull, and TNT135 do not list ABS for the 2024 U.S. models. The Navi’s combined braking system is not ABS.

The Grom and Z125 Pro are the simplest mainstream manual mini-motos to recommend for learning clutch and gear control. The Papio adds standard ABS and a six-speed gearbox, but its extra weight and less established local support may matter to a new buyer.
Best for daily commuting
- Short city trips: Honda Navi, Grom, or Z125 Pro.
- Errands and convenience: Honda Navi for storage or Super Cub for its step-through layout.
- Cargo: Honda Trail125 because of its large rear rack. The rack is for cargo, not automatically for carrying a passenger.
- Mixed pavement and light gravel: Trail125 or Papio CL, with the CL treated as a compact street bike with mild-gravel ability rather than a true dual-sport.
- Parts and aftermarket confidence: Honda Grom.
Are these motorcycles or scooters?
The Grom, Z125 Pro, Monkey, Papio SS, Papio CL, TNT135, and Razkull are conventional manual mini-motorcycles with a hand clutch and foot-operated gear shifting.
The Super Cub and Trail125 are semi-automatic motorcycles: they have foot-shift gearboxes but no hand-operated clutch. The Navi uses a CVT and is mechanically closer to a scooter, despite its motorcycle styling. It belongs in this list because many shoppers use “small motorcycle” to describe this type of inexpensive, motorcycle-styled urban vehicle.
If you care more about storage, step-through access, and effortless operation than clutch technique, also compare small scooters such as the Honda Ruckus, Honda Metropolitan, and Yamaha Zuma. They are a separate category and should not be used to inflate a motorcycle ranking.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
Can these small motorcycles ride on highways?
Street-legal does not mean suitable for every highway. Most of these motorcycles are happiest in cities, neighborhoods, and slower secondary roads. Legal access depends on state law, roadway signage, motorcycle classification, engine displacement, licensing, and sometimes the specific road.
Even where legal, sustained high-speed travel can be uncomfortable or unsafe. Wind, hills, rider weight, gearing, traffic speed, tire size, and available power all matter. A 125cc motorcycle may be able to reach a posted speed briefly but still struggle to maintain it into a headwind or uphill.
Honda’s 2024 Super Cub owner’s manual warns that motorcycles under 150cc may face highway operating restrictions depending on state law. Check your state DMV and the signs on the specific roadway before buying, rather than assuming that registration grants unrestricted interstate access.
As a practical guide, the Grom, Z125 Pro, Navi, Razkull, Papio models, and Monkey should be approached primarily as urban and secondary-road motorcycles. The Super Cub and Trail125 have useful road manners from their 17-inch wheels, but their 124cc engines still do not make them highway-focused motorcycles. None of these should be selected as a primary interstate commuter without careful local testing and legal research.

Passenger and cargo considerations
Do not assume that a motorcycle is suitable for regular two-up riding simply because it has a passenger seat or foot pegs. Check the manufacturer’s payload limits, equipment, and owner’s manual, then consider whether the small engine, short wheelbase, and compact seat can handle two adults comfortably.
- Grom and Navi: have passenger-oriented equipment, but performance and comfort with two adults remain limited.
- Monkey: primarily a solo-style motorcycle.
- Super Cub: practical step-through layout, but still a small-displacement motorcycle.
- Trail125: its rear rack is intended for cargo, not a passenger seat.
- Papio, Z125 Pro, TNT135, and Razkull: verify passenger equipment and payload limits on the exact model before planning regular passenger use.
What the price really means
The advertised MSRP is not the amount you will necessarily pay at the dealership. Add destination or freight, assembly or setup, documentation, tax, title, registration, dealer fees, accessories, and insurance. Honda and SSR both distinguish advertised pricing from several of these additional costs; Honda’s inventory pages provide an example of the exclusions in a dealer transaction.
A $1,999 Navi or Razkull can be an excellent value, but the calculation changes if the dealer is far away, parts take longer to obtain, or service must be performed outside the local network. Verify:
- Actual new 2024 inventory, not merely an archived model page.
- Destination, freight, setup, and documentation charges.
- Warranty terms and the nearest authorized service department.
- Parts availability and typical lead times for crash and maintenance items.
- Whether the motorcycle will be titled and registered in your state.
Why some 2024 small-motorcycle lists disagree
Different articles use different definitions of “small.” Bike EXIF’s 2024 mini-bike guide is useful for identifying the adult mini-moto category and discussing urban riding, skill-building, and low seat heights. It includes many of the Grom, TNT135, Navi, Z125 Pro, Papio, and Monkey competitors, but it labels the Grom as a 2025 model inside a 2024 guide, omits the Super Cub and Trail125, does not list the Papio CL separately, and does not establish a ranking method. It also includes the electric CAKE Makka without resolving its U.S. availability after CAKE’s financial problems.

That threshold is editorial, not a universal legal or engineering standard, and it leaves out the Navi and Razkull—two important choices for buyers focused on price, ease, or seat height.
Cycle World’s 2024 Grom coverage provides a useful comparison baseline across the Grom, Z125 Pro, Papio variants, TNT135, Monkey, Super Cub, Trail125, and Navi. This article expands that comparison by adding the Razkull, separating physical size from usability, identifying manual versus semi-automatic versus CVT operation, and clearly marking ABS equipment and highway limitations.

The CAKE Makka is relevant if the question is broadened from motorcycles to the smallest street-legal two-wheelers. Bike EXIF lists it at approximately 154 pounds with a claimed 28-mph top speed, 41-mile range, and swappable battery. It is better classified as an electric mini-moped or electric urban vehicle than as a gasoline motorcycle in this comparison.
It is not included in the ten because CAKE entered bankruptcy proceedings in February 2024, making U.S. purchase, service, warranty, and parts availability uncertain. Buyers considering one should independently verify that a legally saleable, supportable unit and replacement battery are available.

Models excluded from the main list
- Kymco Spade 150: contemporary coverage says it was discontinued in the United States. A current example should be treated as used or leftover inventory, not as a new 2024 purchase.
- Honda CRF50F, CRF110F, and CRF125F: physically small but off-road-only models. Honda’s 2024 CRF125F specification identifies the motorcycle as meeting off-road emissions standards, not as a street motorcycle.
- Husqvarna TC 50, KTM 50 SX, and similar minicycles: competition or off-road machines intended for children or racing, not adult street use.
- Imported 50cc motorcycles: a European-market moped may be smaller, but it needs model-specific proof of federal certification, import legality, titleability, registration, and parts support in the United States.
- Scooters: Honda Ruckus, Metropolitan, Yamaha Zuma, and similar models can be practical alternatives, but their controls and vehicle category are different from conventional motorcycles.
Before you buy: a small-motorcycle checklist
- Sit on the actual motorcycle. Check one-foot reach, seat width, handlebar reach, and whether you can confidently support the bike at a stop.
- Practice the parking movements. Ask to back it out, turn it around, and push it on a slight incline. A low seat does not compensate for a bike that feels difficult to move.
- Check the payload rating. Include your weight, passenger, luggage, and accessories.
- Confirm state requirements. Ask your DMV about a motorcycle endorsement, registration, insurance, helmet rules, displacement restrictions, and highway access.
- Identify the brake system. Confirm whether the model has front ABS, standard ABS as described by the manufacturer, combined braking, or conventional brakes.
- Get an out-the-door quote. Have the dealer itemize freight, destination, setup, documentation, tax, title, registration, and dealer-installed options.
- Verify inventory. A manufacturer’s model page does not prove that a dealer has a new 2024 motorcycle physically available.
- Ask about support. Confirm the nearest service location, warranty process, routine maintenance, crash parts, and expected parts lead times.
- Budget for safety gear. Include a properly fitted helmet, protective jacket, gloves, pants, boots, insurance, and the first service.
- Match the road to the motorcycle. Do not plan an interstate commute around a machine designed primarily for urban speeds.
Frequently Asked Questions
What is the smallest street-legal motorcycle in the United States for 2024?
It depends on the measurement. The Honda Navi has the smallest engine at 109cc, the Honda Monkey has the shortest wheelbase at 45.0 inches, the Kawasaki Z125 Pro has the shortest listed overall length among the leading mainstream candidates at 66.9 inches, and the SSR Razkull has the lowest listed seat at 29.5 inches. The Honda Grom is the strongest all-around recommendation rather than the absolute smallest in every category.
Which small motorcycle is best for a short rider?
The SSR Razkull has the lowest published seat at 29.5 inches. The CFMOTO Papio models, Honda Grom, and Honda Navi are close at approximately 29.9–30.0 inches and may offer stronger mainstream support. Seat width, suspension sag, rider inseam, center of gravity, and one-foot reach matter more than seat height alone, so sit on the exact motorcycle before buying.
Is the Honda Navi a motorcycle or a scooter?
It is motorcycle-styled but mechanically closer to a scooter because it uses an automatic CVT and has no clutch or gear changes. The Grom, Z125 Pro, Monkey, Papio, TNT135, and Razkull are conventional manual motorcycles. The Super Cub and Trail125 are semi-automatic motorcycles with foot shifting and no hand-operated clutch.
Can a 125cc motorcycle legally use the freeway?
There is no nationwide answer. State displacement rules, motorcycle licensing, roadway signs, and local regulations apply. Even where legal, most motorcycles in this list are better suited to city streets and slower secondary roads than sustained interstate travel. Check your state DMV and the specific roadway before purchasing.

The Honda Monkey, Honda Super Cub C125, and Honda Trail125 provide front-wheel ABS. The CFMOTO Papio SS and CL list standard ABS. The Honda Grom offers ABS only on its ABS trim. The 2024 Kawasaki Z125 Pro, Honda Navi, SSR Razkull, and Benelli TNT135 do not list ABS; the Navi has combined braking instead.
The Bottom Line
If you want the best small motorcycle for the widest range of buyers, start with the Honda Grom. Choose the Honda Navi for the lowest-cost automatic urban transportation, the SSR Razkull for the lowest listed seat and price if local support is confirmed, the Honda Monkey for the shortest wheelbase and retro character, the CFMOTO Papio for standard ABS and a six-speed manual, or the Honda Trail125 for cargo and light-trail utility. Before signing anything, verify the exact 2024 inventory unit, out-the-door price, state legality, brake equipment, payload, and local service support.
