What makes the 2024 Harley-Davidson Breakout special?
1. It delivers a factory custom-chopper look
The Breakout is styled around a long, low Softail silhouette and the visual suggestion of a classic hard-tail custom. Harley-Davidson says its Softail chassis maintains that hard-tail look while reducing weight and improving rigidity; that is the manufacturer’s characterization, not an independent engineering assessment. The appeal is that the chopper-inspired presentation comes as a production motorcycle, rather than requiring a custom build.

2. It comes with the Milwaukee-Eight 117
Power comes from an air- and oil-cooled Milwaukee-Eight 117 V-twin with 117 cubic inches of displacement and a 10.2:1 compression ratio. The engine is a defining part of the Breakout’s identity as well as a prominent figure in its specification sheet. Harley-Davidson’s 2024 US model page supplies those specifications.
3. Its published output is 123 ft-lb and 101 hp
Harley-Davidson lists peak torque of 123 ft-lb at 3,500 rpm and 101 hp at 4,750 rpm. The manufacturer identifies J1349 as the torque test method; these are published figures, not independent dyno results. The low-rpm torque figure gives a concrete sense of the engine’s stated output without implying a particular riding experience.

4. The proportions are genuinely long and low
The 2024 US specifications list a length of 93.3 inches, a 66.7-inch wheelbase and 34 degrees of rake. The technical sheet also lists 37.4 inches of overall width and 42.7 inches of overall height. 5. The listed seat height is low
Harley-Davidson gives the Breakout a 25.6-inch laden seat height and a 26.2-inch unladen seat height. The distinction matters: the first figure is measured with the motorcycle carrying its specified load, while the second is without that load. A low seat can make a motorcycle look accessible, but whether it suits a particular rider also depends on leg length, posture and reach to the controls.

6. The rear tire gives the profile its unmistakable stance
The front is listed as 130/60B21 on a 21-inch wheel; the rear is 240/40R18 on an 18-inch wheel. Harley-Davidson’s model-year technical sheet names Michelin Scorcher 11 tires at both ends. The broad rear tire is a clear visual signature, but tire width alone is not evidence of superior grip or handling.

7. Chrome and the exposed Heavy Breather add detail
Harley-Davidson highlights polished chrome on the fender supports, side covers, muffler shields, turn signals and mirrors. The forward-facing Heavy Breather intake puts an exposed filter element in view, making it part of the motorcycle’s visual presentation instead of hiding it behind bodywork. Together, these details reinforce the Breakout’s custom-inspired appearance.

8. The exhaust is a staggered 2-into-2
The official specification is a staggered 2-into-2 exhaust, with a catalyst in the muffler. Harley-Davidson describes the layout as an offset shotgun exhaust and says it improves mid-range torque and produces a strong note. Those claims describe the manufacturer’s intended performance and sound character; they are not independent measurements.
9. It pairs a five-gallon tank with an estimated 47 mpg
The fuel capacity is listed at five gallons, and Harley-Davidson estimates 47 mpg for both city and highway economy. That is the manufacturer’s estimate, not a guarantee of real-world consumption; actual fuel use varies with conditions and riding. The figures provide a useful published reference, but do not establish how far a particular rider will travel between fill-ups.

Keep the model year straight
This article describes the 2024 US Breakout (FXBR). Harley-Davidson’s later model-year page lists different equipment, including a 4-inch analog gauge and customizable ride modes; those are not details to assume for the 2024 motorcycle.
