Some limited-edition Mustangs have brought extraordinary auction prices, but a big sale is not proof that a model has steadily “skyrocketed” in value. Recent market figures even point in opposite directions: DriveIndex reported Bullitt sold prices up 42.5% year over year, while Boss 302 sold prices were down 30.4% through August 31, 2026. The ten examples below show documented scarcity and notable sales, not ten verified appreciation records.
How to read Mustang auction prices
An auction result records what a particular car sold for at a particular time. To establish appreciation, you would need comparable cars sold at different dates, with mileage, condition, originality, provenance and exact variant taken into account. Two unrelated sales—or one exceptional result—cannot establish a price trajectory.
Rarity also needs evidence. A special-edition badge alone does not establish production numbers, and a high price does not make a car a limited edition. Ford’s Mustang historical timeline identifies performance models across eras; for a specific production claim, look for documentation such as Barrett-Jackson’s listing for the Parnelli Jones Edition, which identifies it as number 49 of a 500-car run.
These examples combine individual auction results with broader market aggregates. Those are different kinds of evidence and should not be treated as one ranking or direct comparison.

Ten notable Mustangs and their documented prices
1. 1965 Shelby GT350
Ford’s timeline dates the Shelby GT350’s debut to 1965. Barrett-Jackson reported a 1965 GT350 sale for $528,000 in 2022. That is a remarkable result for the specific car sold, not a typical price or evidence of how much all GT350s appreciated. Barrett-Jackson’s 2022 Scottsdale results.
2. 1965 Shelby GT350R
The GT350R is a distinct competition model, not simply another name for a regular GT350. Marque lists a completed sale for $2,750,000 on May 16, 2026. The figure belongs to that specific auction result and should not be applied to standard GT350s. Marque GT350 auction records.
3. 1969 Ford Mustang Boss 429
The Boss 429 is among Ford’s listed 1969 performance models. Barrett-Jackson reported two 1969 examples sold in 2022, for $473,000 and $385,000. Marque’s records show a $360,000 median across 45 confirmed Boss 429 sales from January 16, 2022, through September 26, 2026, with prices ranging from $209,000 to $660,000. The spread shows why a headline result is not a reliable stand-in for every car. Barrett-Jackson; Marque Boss 429 auction records.

4. 1970 Ford Mustang Boss 429
Marque lists a 1970 Boss 429 sale at $627,000 on May 17, 2025. This is an individual transaction, not a typical-value estimate or a like-for-like comparison with another year’s result. Marque Boss 429 auction records.

RM Sotheby’s identifies a Boss 302 Laguna Seca in its Fort Lauderdale results and records a $44,000 sale in 2018. That establishes what the car brought at that event; it does not show its subsequent resale value. RM Sotheby’s 2018 Fort Lauderdale results.
6. 2008 Shelby GT500KR
RM Sotheby’s records a 2008 GT500KR sold for $49,500 in 2018. Marque lists another 2008 KR at $75,900 in December 2025, but the records do not establish that these were comparable cars in mileage, condition, originality or provenance. Read them as separate transactions, not a controlled appreciation comparison. RM Sotheby’s 2018 results; Marque GT500 auction records.

7. 2007 Shelby GT500 Super Snake convertible
RM Sotheby’s recorded this specific Super Snake convertible as sold for $66,000 in 2018. It is a different variant from the GT500KR and should not be grouped with it when comparing prices. RM Sotheby’s 2018 Fort Lauderdale results.
8. 2015 Shelby GT350 50th Anniversary
RM Sotheby’s listed two 2015 GT350 50th Anniversary cars sold in 2018, one for $75,900 and another for $69,300. The difference between those results alone illustrates that the edition name does not determine a single value; each car’s condition, mileage and history matter. These are historical sales, not evidence of later appreciation. RM Sotheby’s 2018 Fort Lauderdale results.
9. Bullitt Mustang
For production Bullitt editions, DriveIndex reports a median sold price of $35,500 across 77 sales and a 42.5% year-over-year increase on the page accessed October 7, 2026. Its records cover 2008, 2009, 2018, 2019 and 2020 examples; differences in year, mileage and condition can affect the aggregate. Do not conflate these production cars with the 1968 movie car. 10. Saleen Mustang, including the Parnelli Jones Edition
DriveIndex reports a $30,000 median across 35 Saleen Mustang sales and a 54.8% year-over-year median increase through September 27, 2026. The source also notes only three sales in the preceding 12 months, so a small number of transactions and changes in the mix of cars can move the median. This is an aggregate across Saleen Mustangs, not a Parnelli Jones Edition price history. DriveIndex Saleen market summary.
The 2007 Saleen Parnelli Jones Edition is a more specifically documented variant: Barrett-Jackson describes number 49 of 500, with Grabber Orange paint and distinctive equipment. RM Sotheby’s 2018 Auburn PDF displays a $35,000 lot amount, but the excerpt does not identify it as sold, so it should not be presented as a completed sale. Collectors should compare the exact car and the evidence behind the number, not just the name on the fender. Before treating one result as a guide to another, check:
Best Value
- Detailed Die-cast metal body with plastic parts
- Large Apx 9-1/2" replica
- Opening doors and engine compartment
- Full functioning steering
- Four-wheel suspension
- Exact edition and model year: GT350, GT350R, GT500KR, Super Snake and Boss variants are not interchangeable.
- Production documentation: Confirm claimed run sizes or sequence numbers through reliable records rather than assuming a badge means rarity.
- Condition and mileage: Wear, restoration quality and use can materially distinguish cars carrying the same edition name.
- Originality and provenance: Modifications, documented ownership or competition history, and supporting paperwork can make two examples unlike one another.
- Sale context: Record the venue and date, and distinguish a completed sale from a listed lot amount whose sale status is not shown.
- Evidence type: An individual auction result is not the same as a multi-sale median or a year-over-year market statistic.
What the available market data says about Bullitt and Boss 302
Recent figures do not describe one uniform Mustang-special-edition market. DriveIndex reported Bullitt sold prices up 42.5% year over year across 77 tracked sales, while its Boss 302 summary reported sold prices down 30.4% through August 31, 2026. The measures have different samples and reporting windows; neither should be read as a forecast or as a direct comparison of investment returns. DriveIndex Bullitt summary; DriveIndex Boss 302 summary.
How much does a Ford Mustang Bullitt sell for at auction?
There is no single auction price that applies to every Bullitt. DriveIndex reports a $35,500 median across 77 recorded sales, alongside its 42.5% year-over-year increase on the page accessed October 7, 2026. That aggregate covers several production years and does not control for each car’s mileage, condition or provenance, so use it as broad context rather than a quote for a particular example.
