The ranking below preserves SlashGear’s order while identifying what each figure represents.
How to read this ranking
The amounts and order below are those reported by SlashGear in its November 20, 2023 article, not a newly verified October 2026 market ranking. Prices are not directly comparable: a manufacturer’s release-period price is different from a completed auction result, an owner-value estimate or speculation about a car that has not been found. SlashGear reports nearly $18.9 million after taxes. Bugatti’s model-line release lists EUR 11 million before tax for the one-off car. The two figures describe different price bases and currencies, so the dollar amount should not be read as a tax-exclusive manufacturer price or a later resale result. 1. Bugatti Type 57SC Atlantic — $40 million
SlashGear ranks the Atlantic first with a reported $40 million figure, but this is not a verified sale price for the missing car. Bugatti says four Atlantic Coupés were built from 1936 to 1938 and three survive. Chassis 57 453, made for Jean Bugatti and also known as La Voiture Noire, has not been found. Why this is not an exhaustive record of expensive Bugattis
The ranking leaves out a significant official auction result: Bugatti reported that a 1934 Type 59 Sports sold for USD 12.681 million in London in September 2020. That is a dated public-auction figure and, unlike the missing Atlantic’s estimate, a reported completed sale. For a meaningful price comparison, keep four categories separate: original manufacturer prices, completed public auction results, private or owner-reported estimates, and speculative valuations. Auction date, currency, tax treatment and fees can further change what a quoted figure means. The available figures do not establish a comprehensive post-2023 auction leaderboard or the current resale price of each model.
