Tesla produced 410,831 vehicles and delivered 443,956 in the second quarter of 2024. Both totals were lower than a year earlier, though both rose from the first quarter. The company also reported a record 9.4 GWh of energy storage deployments.
How Tesla’s Q2 2024 vehicle totals compared
The year-over-year decline is the basis for calling the results disappointing: production fell about 14.4% and deliveries about 4.8% compared with Q2 2023. Against Q1 2024, however, production increased about 5.2% and deliveries about 14.8%. These percentage changes are calculations from Tesla’s reported figures.

Tesla produced 33,125 fewer vehicles than it delivered during the quarter. Production counts vehicles made; deliveries count vehicles handed over to customers. The gap between those quarterly flows is not itself an inventory count. Tesla separately reported inventory at 18 days of supply, down from 28 days in Q1 and up from 16 days a year earlier.
Energy storage set a separate quarterly record
Tesla reported 9.4 GWh of energy storage deployments in Q2 2024, which it described as its highest quarterly deployment to that point. This is a separate business measure from vehicle production and deliveries; it should not be added to or treated as a vehicle result.

What these figures say about Tesla’s financial results
The July 2 announcement was a production-and-delivery update, not the full quarterly earnings release. Tesla cautioned that vehicle deliveries and storage deployments are only two measures of financial performance and should not be relied on as an indicator of quarterly financial results. It cited factors including average selling price, cost of sales and foreign-exchange movements. Tesla said it would publish its Q2 financial results on July 23, and it released those results that day.
For the first half of 2024, Tesla later reported approximately 844,000 consumer vehicles produced and approximately 831,000 delivered in its Form 10-Q filed July 24, 2024. The filing also discussed the need to expand delivery capability as production grows.
