10 New SUVs That Should Be Worth Every Penny In 2026

These 10 new 2026 SUVs stand out for their combination of price, standard equipment, efficiency, AWD, electric range, cargo space or towing capability.

“Worth every penny” does not mean every SUV on this list is the cheapest, fastest or most luxurious choice. It means the vehicle makes a strong case for its price through standard equipment, efficiency, space, warranty coverage or useful capability.

These are U.S.-market 2026 models, and the prices below are manufacturer MSRPs before destination charges, taxes, registration, options and dealer fees. Actual pricing can vary. Several of these SUVs also become considerably more expensive once AWD, hybrid power or higher trims are added.

1. 2026 Toyota RAV4 Hybrid

Starting MSRP: $31,900 for the LE Hybrid

The redesigned 2026 RAV4 makes electrification the default rather than an expensive upgrade. Every U.S.-market RAV4 uses either a hybrid-electric or plug-in-hybrid powertrain; Toyota no longer lists a conventional gasoline-only version for this model year.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

The front-wheel-drive LE Hybrid produces 226 net combined horsepower, while AWD versions produce 236 hp. Toyota also makes Toyota Safety Sense 4.0, blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert, a 12.3-inch digital gauge cluster and wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto standard.

That equipment gives the base RAV4 a better starting point than many entry-level compact SUVs. Buyers should remember that Toyota’s $1,095 Dealer Processing and Handling fee is extra, and AWD and higher trims raise the price quickly. The RAV4 Plug-in Hybrid starts at $41,500; its SE trim offers up to 54 miles of EPA-estimated electric range.

2. 2026 Honda CR-V

Starting MSRP: $30,920 for the LX

The CR-V remains a sensible choice for buyers who want a roomy compact SUV without immediately jumping to a premium price. The base LX includes a 9-inch color touchscreen, wireless phone charging, adaptive cruise control with low-speed follow, lane-keeping assist and collision-mitigation braking.

Honda’s hybrid range begins with the $35,630 Sport Hybrid. Sport Hybrid, TrailSport Hybrid, Sport-L Hybrid and Sport Touring Hybrid models use a 204-hp powertrain. That gives shoppers several ways to prioritize fuel economy and power without buying the most expensive trim.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

The main catch is equipment structure. Blind-spot monitoring is not standard on the LX; it becomes standard on the EX and above. AWD is available on the gasoline LX and EX, while the hybrid models follow a separate trim and feature lineup. The CR-V is strongest as a flexible, well-rounded family SUV rather than as a bargain-basement purchase.

3. 2026 Subaru Forester Hybrid

Starting MSRP: $34,730 for the Premium Hybrid

The Forester’s value proposition is unusually simple: Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive and EyeSight driver-assistance technology are standard across the range, and buyers can now choose a hybrid without abandoning Subaru’s standard AWD layout.

Subaru lists up to 34 mpg city, 35 mpg highway and a maximum estimated range of 581 miles for the hybrid trims. Those figures make the Forester Hybrid attractive to drivers who regularly deal with snow, wet roads or gravel but do not want to accept the fuel consumption of an AWD-only gasoline SUV.

There is a clear price calculation to make. The gasoline Forester starts at $29,995 and reaches up to 33/26 mpg city/highway, making it $4,735 less expensive than the Premium Hybrid. If fuel savings and standard AWD are priorities, the hybrid makes sense. If the lowest purchase price matters more, the gasoline Base trim is the better value.

4. 2026 Hyundai Tucson

Starting MSRP: $29,450 for the gasoline SE

The Tucson undercuts the $30,000 mark while offering the space and upright seating position many buyers want from a compact SUV. Its 187-hp gasoline powertrain is not especially sporty, but the front-wheel-drive model is rated at 25 city, 33 highway and 28 combined mpg.

HTRAC AWD is available on the SE, SEL, SEL Plus, SEL Premium, XRT and Limited trims. AWD models are rated at 24/30/26 mpg city/highway/combined. Hyundai also advertises a 10-year/100,000-mile powertrain limited warranty, subject to its terms and limitations.

The Tucson is most compelling for buyers who want a well-equipped mainstream SUV with an available traction upgrade and strong warranty headline. Hyundai’s displayed prices exclude freight, and the gasoline engine’s modest output means buyers seeking stronger acceleration should investigate the hybrid lineup separately.

5. 2026 Kia Sportage

Starting MSRP: $28,790 for the LX

The Sportage starts below both the Tucson and CR-V while putting a large 12.3-inch dual-display arrangement, wireless Apple CarPlay and wireless Android Auto in the standard-equipment column. That is a meaningful advantage for buyers who care about cabin technology but do not want to pay for a high trim.

Its 2.5-liter four-cylinder produces 187 hp and 178 lb-ft of torque. AWD is available and includes terrain modes. Depending on trim, buyers can add a panoramic sunroof, blind-spot detection, a power liftgate and heated front seats.

The hybrid is another reason to look closely: the 2026 Sportage Hybrid starts at $30,490, only $1,700 above the gasoline LX before destination and other charges. The plug-in hybrid starts at $40,490. The base price is attractive, but AWD and upper trims can push the Sportage into the mid-$30,000 range.

6. 2026 Mazda CX-50 Hybrid

Starting MSRP: $34,750 for the Hybrid Preferred

The CX-50 Hybrid is a strong pick for drivers who want efficiency and AWD without giving up a more polished driving experience. Its 2.5-liter hybrid system produces 219 hp, uses an electronically controlled continuously variable transmission and includes electronic all-wheel drive as standard.

Mazda lists fuel economy at 39 city, 37 highway and 38 combined mpg. Cargo capacity is 31.4 cubic feet behind the rear seats and 56.3 cubic feet with those seats folded. Mi-Drive adds Power and Trail modes, giving the CX-50 more flexibility than its road-oriented appearance might suggest.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

The price includes a significant caveat: the $34,750 MSRP excludes Mazda’s $1,495 destination charge. Mazda’s official pages have also shown different pricing for the Hybrid Premium Plus—$40,150 in one 2026 pricing release and $40,450 on a current vehicle page—so buyers should confirm the live configurator before signing.

7. 2026 Chevrolet Equinox EV

Starting MSRP: $34,995 for the LT 1

The Equinox EV’s most persuasive number is its range. The front-wheel-drive LT 1 is listed with 319 EPA-estimated miles, while available AWD models are listed at 307 miles. That is unusually strong range for an electric SUV with a starting MSRP below $35,000.

Chevrolet also includes a 17.7-inch diagonal center touchscreen and more than 20 standard safety and driver-assistance features. The LT 2 starts at $41,795, and the RS starts at $44,095, so the entry price belongs to a specific trim rather than the entire lineup.

Range will vary with temperature, terrain, battery condition, cargo, speed and driving style. AWD costs extra, and buyers should compare charging access at home and on regular routes before treating the Equinox EV as a straightforward replacement for a gasoline SUV.

8. 2026 Hyundai Kona

Starting MSRP: $25,500 for the SE

The Kona is the lowest-priced SUV on this list and one of the least expensive new SUVs from a major manufacturer. The SE uses a 147-hp 2.0-liter four-cylinder and returns 29 city, 34 highway and 31 combined mpg with front-wheel drive.

Higher trims use a 190-hp 1.6-liter turbocharged engine. HTRAC AWD is available, as are features such as a hands-free power liftgate, surround-view monitor and blind-spot view monitor. That gives the Kona a useful technology and performance upgrade path as a buyer’s budget grows.

The base price is not a shortcut to the turbo engine or premium equipment. AWD lowers fuel economy to 27/29/28 mpg city/highway/combined, and Hyundai’s displayed MSRP excludes freight, tax, title and license fees. The SE is best for buyers who value low purchase cost and acceptable efficiency over brisk acceleration.

9. 2026 Honda Pilot

Starting MSRP: $42,395

The Pilot earns its place by doing jobs that smaller SUVs cannot. It seats up to eight when equipped with the available removable second-row center seat; seven-passenger versions use second-row captain’s chairs. Its 3.5-liter V6 produces 285 hp, and maximum cargo volume reaches 113.7 cubic feet depending on configuration.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

With AWD, the Pilot can tow up to 5,000 pounds. Two-wheel-drive models are rated for 3,500 pounds. That combination of three-row room, V6 power and useful towing capacity makes the Pilot a practical alternative to a full-size SUV for families that need genuine utility.

The starting price is for a two-wheel-drive Pilot. AWD, TrailSport equipment and upper trims add substantially to the purchase price. Cargo measurements also vary by seating configuration, so buyers should test the exact layout they intend to use.

10. 2026 Toyota Highlander Hybrid

Starting MSRP: $47,020 for the Hybrid XLE

The Highlander Hybrid is aimed at buyers who need three rows but would rather not accept the fuel consumption of a traditional large family SUV. Electronic on-demand AWD is standard on every 2026 Highlander Hybrid, and the vehicle can seat up to eight depending on the second-row arrangement.

Toyota lists up to 84.3 cubic feet of cargo capacity with the second and third rows folded. Hybrid models can tow up to 3,500 pounds, enough for many small trailers and recreational loads, though not as much as some competitors offer.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

The gas Highlander XLE starts at $45,270, making the hybrid a $1,750 premium before Toyota’s Dealer Processing and Handling fee. That difference buys standard AWD and improved efficiency, but buyers who regularly tow heavy loads may prefer a model with a 5,000-pound rating.

Important 2026 SUV facts that are easy to get wrong

  • The RAV4 is not offered with a regular gasoline engine for 2026. The base $31,900 model is a front-wheel-drive hybrid.
  • The Forester is not gasoline-only. Subaru added Premium, Sport, Limited and Touring Hybrid trims for 2026.
  • The CX-50 Hybrid is not a roughly 30-mpg vehicle. Mazda lists 38 mpg combined.
  • The Equinox EV is not limited to about 250 miles of range. Chevrolet lists 319 miles for the FWD version and 307 miles with AWD.
  • AWD is not standard on every compact SUV here. It is standard on the Forester and CX-50 Hybrid, but optional or trim-dependent on the CR-V, Tucson, Sportage, Kona and Equinox EV.

How to choose among them

  1. For the lowest purchase price: Start with the $25,500 Kona or $28,790 Sportage. The Tucson is another strong sub-$30,000 option.
  2. For standard AWD: Compare the Forester Hybrid, CX-50 Hybrid and Highlander Hybrid. Their higher starting prices include traction hardware that is optional on many rivals.
  3. For fuel-saving compact-SUV transportation: Look at the RAV4 Hybrid, CR-V Hybrid, Forester Hybrid, Sportage Hybrid and CX-50 Hybrid.
  4. For electric range: The Equinox EV stands out with a listed 319-mile FWD range, but confirm charging availability and local incentives.
  5. For people and cargo: The Honda Pilot and Toyota Highlander Hybrid are the only three-row choices here. The Pilot is stronger for towing; the Highlander Hybrid emphasizes efficiency and standard AWD.
  6. For the strongest warranty headline: The Tucson’s advertised 10-year/100,000-mile powertrain limited warranty is notable, although coverage terms and eligibility still matter.

FAQ

Which of these SUVs has standard all-wheel drive?

The 2026 Subaru Forester, 2026 Mazda CX-50 Hybrid and 2026 Toyota Highlander Hybrid include AWD as standard. AWD is optional or dependent on trim for the CR-V, Tucson, Sportage, Kona and Equinox EV.

Which 2026 SUV has the longest listed electric range?

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Are these the most reliable SUVs of 2026?

Not necessarily. This list evaluates apparent value using starting price, standard equipment, efficiency, practicality, warranty or capability. It is not a reliability or resale-value ranking.

The Bottom Line

There is no single winner for every buyer. The Kona and Sportage make the strongest low-price cases, the RAV4 Hybrid and CX-50 Hybrid make electrification easy to justify, and the Forester stands out for standard AWD. The Equinox EV is compelling if its charging and range advantages fit your driving routine. For larger families, the Pilot prioritizes towing and space, while the Highlander Hybrid offers standard AWD with a more efficiency-focused formula.

Before buying, price the exact trim with destination, AWD, required options and dealer fees included. That final figure—not the advertised entry MSRP—is the real test of whether an SUV is worth every penny.
